La Casa de Don Pedro is located on the East side of Antigua next to the historic Casa Santo Domingo Cultural Centre and 10 minutes' walk from the Antigua Central Park.
Score from 76 reviews Very good
Located 5 minutes’ drive from Antigua Main Square and 600 metres from the Santo Domingo Museum, the Hotel La Casona de Antigua features a central garden with fountain and rustic-style architecture.
Score from 67 reviews Excellent
The location near to the main square. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room had skylights which were quite effective. The rooftop terrace was great with views to the volcano. Decor and courtyard were charming.
The hot water does not work for the duration of a short (!) shower. The staff barely understands English. Windows don't close properly. Glass blocks in the ceiling mean there is light first thing in the morning and you can't sleep in. We had a bad experience. Not worth the rate they charge.
Quiet, beautiful rooftop terrace with 365 degree view of town, mountains and volcanoes. The kitchen was excellent and well equipped. Room was large.
The Terrace and the view from there is really an escape from down town Antigua. It makes the difference from other small hotels that don´t offer this option. The central fountain at the patio is great looking, but they don´t keep it working with water. Other thing I liked is that every place to go out for night life or day life, is at walking distance. We parked our car where they advised us, and then we walked all the way around.
The Edredons were not clean at the first room they assigned to us, we asked for another and this one was better. The bed covers were clean, compared to the upper floor room.
It is located one block from the Plaza on the side closer to the Market so it is away from the street vendors. The ambiance is delightful—plaza, terrace, lots of trees and plants. Breakfast was very good.
One person complained of hearing bar music at night from her room. She was able to move to another one.
The rooms are clean and the staff helpful. They cook up excellent breakfasts. The location is excellent.
The staff was kind enough to move me because the internet basically didn't work in my first room. The mattresses in both rooms were terrible. One was extremely soft and the other extremely hard. If you have back problems these aren't the beds for you. The internet was stronger but didn't always work. The rooms had little outside light filter through. Would I stay there again? Probably not. There are hundreds of hotels, hostels and posadas to choose from.
Everything but the price
Dosent worth the money. Also, charges 50% more through the site.
Courtyard is beautiful Staff is friendly, smiley and inviting I felt very safe and security was high Location is great
I found it very loud and noise traveled - the windows had gaps and I could hear people in the courtyard (Rm 5) No hot water
Convonient location, Confortable and relacing place, attentive staff.
Quality of the beds could be better, I could feel the springs sticking on my back. Poor Wi-Fi connection I had to go in the hallway in order to get connection.
I loved the interior garden and roof top terrace. The posada is situated close to a supermarket which is great at you also have access to a shared kitchen with all facilities - apart from the fridge! Staff was very nice and supportive.
IF noisy guests, you hear all … it is a bit like a greek theater!
every was very nice
The location was great, right in the center of town with an easy walk everywhere. There is a lovely rooftop terrace where you can sit and relax and a shared kitchen. The price was excellent, but be aware that taxes are about 29% and using a credit card adds another 10%. In spite of these charges, it was still reasonable.
The room was small which was not a problem for us, but might be for others. There were three twin beds with two small nightstands and that took all the space from wall-wall. The water was lukewarm if you ran it for awhile - again, that was O.K. because it was quite warm out. Finally, they advertised that employees speak English. Some did, but most were very limited -as was my Spanish!
Excellent location, lovely Inside courtyard
Very noisy, you hear the neighbours loud and clear, like it or not.
There is a beautiful fountain and foliage in the courtyard. Nice common decorations. Love the restaurant Saberico across the street.
The walls are thin and guests were up at all hours during Semana Santa. You could hear someone cough the way noise travels in the courtyard.
Location & roof terrace.
Quite expensive for what is offered.
The staff were very friendly and readily made arrangements for us to climb the Pacaya volcano. The also arranged a private guided city walking tour. Top floor patio overlooking the city and picturesque scenery was a highlight!
We arrived Saturday and the rooms face a court yard that is quite noisy when everyone stumbles in late at night. It felt like the walls of our room was paper thin. Tricky to get hotvwater but once we figuredcout the system it worked great!
beautiful courtyard and upstairs patio. Water and coffee available 24 hours. Communal kitchen was nice.
walls are thin woken up early every morning wasn't able to sleep past 6 AM due to noise.
Bathrooms need update. A new paint job in the rooms would help.
Good location, clean.
Lovely panoramic roofdeck - The staff is very mindful of all your needs. The location is super!
Tea and coffee were always available.
That I booked through you and got charged $62 per night but if I'd booked direct I would only pay $45 per night for the same room.
Nice staff, nice view from the rooftop, nice central location.
Extremely loud at night and early morning because of courtyard. Can hear everyone and everything. We had to purchase earplugs to sleep. Rooms are small. Fountain wasn't on. Was too expensive for what we got overall.
Great location. Very pretty courtyard. Lovely rooms. Good price. I'll definitely come back there again.
Breakfast was enormous, so it was a shame that we wasted food. And as I commented to the staff, we needed help from them to carry our bags. But otherwise great.
The room was clean. The garden was beautiful. Nice rooftop view. Safe and secure and location close to main square.
Extremely uncomfortable bedding: very hard overstuffed pillows, very rough sheets, very old worn towels. We reserved one queen bed but ended up with two fullsize beds so the room was very crowded and hard to walk or fit luggage. It was like a budget backpacker hotel, but not priced accordingly. $40/night might be reasonable, but we were charged $78. Provided breakfast was very poor quality and very disorganized. We think the staff was doing the best they could and that the hotel is not at all well managed. We would not stay here again.
Rooms were decent -- small and basic. There was a shared kitchen and fridge to use which was great.
Room was in the corner so the only window was a semi-opaque tile in the ceiling which made it pretty dungeon-y. The staff supposedly booked us a hotel taxi the night before. Then in the morning (5am) we got up to catch it and it didn't arrive. The lights were completely of and pitch black in the lobby and the security man was sleeping under his desk we found out after startling hime awake. We tried through a language barrier (our fault, bad spanish) to explain that it hadn't arrived until he finally called another one and we thankfully just barely made it. Overall you could feel disdain in the hotel staff as we struggled to communicate in Spanish, although much more as usual if you speak English right off. The failure to actually book a taxi for the hotel or tell the night watchman that would happen and/or leave a light on is pretty unacceptable, language barriers aside which I've admitted my error for not knowing better spanish.
