I was traveling together with my parents, who have stayed a few times at Hotel Admiral in the past already.
The Hotel was receiving an upgrade in the Winter 2013/14, all public rooms (Lobby, Bar, Restaurant) and all guest rooms were obviously re-done... - but the style of the upgrade has not really been done well, as my parents felt!
The rooms in particular have been done in a very cheap way... - the new furniture is lacking the pleasant and warm character which was making one really feel at home during a stay in previous years.
The bathrooms have been re-done as well, with full bath tubs partially having been removed and replaced with walk-in showers. The worst thing however are the wash stands... - the water outlet has been placed too far behind the wash basin, which makes it literally impossible to wash your hands or wash your face properly...
In the Restaurant the cheap style is very visible as well:
The buffet is lacking hot chafing dishes, to keep the food properly warm. Only heating lamps are used, so the food is unfortunately ALWAYS way too cold. We were there for 7 days, and not one single day we were able to have WARM food... - that is unfortunately NOT acceptable.
The Restaurant staff are obviously trying their very best to offer efficient service, but some service training would help them to be able and perform their job even better!
The Front Desk staff were not really making one feel WELCOME... - if you had to ask any question, it always felt like you were "handled" as quickly as possible just to get rid of again. A little more charm and friendliness would be a very welcome touch...
The Pool and Sauna area could REALLY need an upgrade... - it still has that charm of a time long gone-by and looks JUST what it looked like about 10 years ago, when i myself was there for the last time!
One other thing i like to mention is the VERY narrow parking spaces in the underground garage.
Hotel Admiral has a perfect location: it is located directly in the heart of Opatija, just a short stroll away from the main square and the sea-front promenade!
The staff in the Dining Room and at the Hotel Bar were very friendly and tried their best in providing a decent and efficient service...
The Bellboy at arrival was also very friendly and provided good help as well for taking care of the luggage as also for providing hands-on assistance for little technical problems in the hotel room...
The Manager of the Hotel was present a few times at Dinner and Breakfast, she was a lovely Lady with a genuine smile and courteous attitude!
