I often visit Budapest, because of work. I stayed now in Hotel Ambra for one night, and I am really satisfied with the service. The location is perfect, the Opera, the Andrássy avenue and the Deák square is in walking distance. The service is excellent, the breakfast is various and delicious (cold and warm breakfast). The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a bar, where I could drink in the evening coffee and tea free. It is absolut pleasant in this cold weather! :) At check-in I got a shopping card from the receptionist. With this card I could buy some gifts with discounts in different shops nearby. (It is very good idea!) I can offer this hotel to everybody, who is planning to visit Budapest!

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The morning breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The location was perfect - very close to the center of the city. Internet was working. Very good ratio quality/price. The parking place is quite small (inside the building, using the elevator) and the overall aspect of the room is not exactly similar to that of other hotels at the same level.

For people who want to explore the city and walk, this is by far the best location I've enjoyed in Budapest. After a long hot day, one can stop by the lobby dining area for ice cold water with lemons and some dry snacks - which I would appreciate all year and not just in high summer. The desk staff was uniformly courteous, informed and multi-lingual. Apparently the hotel has expanded and there are some necessary growing pains. The single elevator for 6 floors is tiny - so a family of three with luggage will have to take separate trips. One day the cleaning staff didn't come until after 3pm - by which time we were back in the room and didn't want to be disturbed, so there were no beds made nor clean towels that day. On Sunday, the breakfast was packed, with several people waiting for tables and the only serving person quite flustered - so in general, I think the Ambra would be near perfect if it had more staff and a larger elevator. I believe the rates are a bit high but worth it for the location.

We had a very pleasant stay in Hotel Ambra. The staff was really nice and kind, the rooms were just fine, comfortable and clean. We could enjoy hot tee and cold drinks with some snacks during the whole day. The sauna was available for the guest 24/7 , what we really liked after a long day of sightseeing. The breakfast was fine, nice food and beverages. I would highly recommend the hotel to everyone, who is planning a weekend in Budapest. Great location and value for money.

It is very close to the city centre and there are many nice restaurants around the area. The breakfast is fine, I particularly liked the coffee. The furniture in the room is new and in good condition, the design of the bathroom was really nice. The matresses are brand new and they really offer a good quality of sleep. Overall, it is rather an excellent three star hotel and not a four-star one and it is excellent value for money. The heating in the room is outrageously too high. We had to keep our window open during all day and night to bear the heat! There is no way to control effectively the radiator and the heat affected the quality of sleep we could get as we had to wake up with a desert-dry nose and throat! Also the room was very small in comparison to those shown at the pictures.

Hotel Ambra is a very charming and pleasant hotel indeed with friendly staff and excellant location. Was a little bit put off by the surrounding area (looked a bit shabby) at first arrival, but then soon realised it's actually a safe area and next to a main road. There is a 24-7 mini market immediately opposite the hotel which I really appreciated, and actually there are two supermarkets at the Octogon end of the road! Deak Ter Metro Station is at the other end of the road and is within walking distance. Opera House is very close as well. Breakfast is simple but sufficient, and I really appreciate to have honey to go with my bread! The breakfast area is open throughout the day so after a long long walk you can go there in the evening and have some chips and cold lemon water to relax, nice th9ught for guests! I've booked a room with extra space so it's quite large. The bed and pillows are comfortable for me as well. Wifi need a password that you'll need to ask the staff, but the connection is excellant (the best connection I got throughout my trip in Hungary!) a really good hotel that I may come again. Perhaps some people will be disappointed by having so few tv channels available (and only one English channel) but it's ok for me actually. Instead I'm a bit disappointed to find there's only shower but not a bath tub cause I really want to take a relaxing bath after a whole day's long walk around the city.

Friendly and helpful staffs. Adequate breakfast. 5 minutes walk to town. Value for money. Lots of free maps and brochures given during check-in. Shower was great - strong flow of water. Hard to find (according to the taxi driver we took from the airport). Not really a 4-star but a 3-star hotel.

Small but clean room with a nice 4* bathroom. Quiet location. Very helpful staff. Free WiFi in the hotel and in the room. If this is you first visit to Budapest, then the best thing about this hotel is that it's very close to the sightseeing bus stop. This hotel for me should be rated only as 3*. I would then say that it is a great 3* hotel. Note that it is hard to find a parking space on the street. The hotel's parking is for small cars only.

The convenience of the hotel to the major attractions of the city. The attention and helpfulness of the staff. The receptionist was so good when I was feeling illl and needed a doctor, it was all arranged for me with no problems. I would like to especially mention her and say thank you again. A bit offputting when you drive up the street and all the buildings are covered in graffiti and look derelict. This gives a bad first impression although the hotel itself is fine.

The hotel is located in the centre of the city. Just about 5 minutes walk from Liszt Ferenc square where you can find some nice terraces and restaurants. Also right behind Andrassy Ut and not too far from West end shopping mall. One of the access points for a hop on hop off bus, if you like, is next to the Opera at Andrassy Ut. The city is very convenient to be explored by foot and/or subway. Although the hotel is located right in the centre, it was very quiet. No noise from the street or other guests. The free coffee/tea during the day is a good idea when you come back after a long day of sightseeing. Breakfast is enough. The room is big enough. The bathroom seemed to be recently renovated and was very nice. I would definitely stay here again. The first day when I arrived there were hairs in my shower, which were definitely not mine. I mentioned it to the lady at the reception and she took immediately care of it after apologising a couple of times. I appreciated it. Other then this little incident the room was very clean.

Easy reach to city centre, Free tea and coffee available at the lobby 24 Hr. The internet in the room wasn't working although it was said it would. When I complained about it to the reception, they just ignored it.

“The staff were all very nice and offered to do things before I asked. They were very accommodating when I needed special things due to my allergies. The front desk and breakfast room had staff you'd expect at a 5 star hotel. The room was not large by American, non ny/sf, standards but was for Europe. It was very clean and well maintained. It was very quiet facing the courtyard. It was in the middle of everything, so 5-10 min walk from most downtown attractions. And the price was amazing, cheaper than some friends, who got an apartment near the central market. I highly recommend this hotel to all types of travelers. ” Suzan, Menlo Park |

“The City Hotel Matyas is one of the best things we faced during our 4 day visit to Budapest! Excellent staff speaking good English, wonderful breakfast at one of local must-visit-restaurants, best location, value for money! If you are looking for budget accomodation which can also provide you with the best location in the city - the City Hotel Matyas is probably the only one you need to choose! Special thank you to all receptionists - we've met many during our stay - they do their best! You may ask them for any help - and they are always ready to assist with any advice or immediate action!:)” Anna, Moscow |
