The 4-star-superior Hotel Zara opened in 2010 at the former site of Hungaria Bath, a protected Art Nouveau building. It provides a 1,615-ft² rooftop garden with both outdoor and indoor pools.
Score from 1429 reviews Excellent
Central location, beautiful building, free visit to the famous bath
Rooms are old and small
Very nice location, Friendly and very helpful staff, fine conditions for relaxation, acces to the spa, fantastic breakfast buffet - very relaxed mood in all parts of the hote.
Traffic noise (because of our preferred room with a view of the river - and therefore close to the road) late evening and early night.
Excellent Spa. Lovely traditional hotel. Very good food in the bistrot
Chaotic first morning breakfast. Could not cope with demand and no sensible system of queuing for tables. Just a free for all. No problems on our other days.
I liked the pool and that there was a chance to join in a water exercise for free. Breakfasts were brilliant. The hotel is marvellously situated for public transport.
No cafe or similar late in the evening (after theatre), only room service (limited) and no kettles in rooms. They also need to keep away the doves that made a noise and lots of mess outside my courtyard top floor window.
Possibility to visit the spa for free once per stay, interesting building, good to see once in life
Hotel needs refurbishing, quite outdated infrastructure, breakfast ok, but far from what you would expect from a 4-star hotel (no good choice of tea sorts, warm dishes cold).
Hotel was everything I was hoping for. The building was amazing, food, excellent view from our room (3rd floor) across the river unbelievable. Well placed for sight seeing. To be honest I didnt want to come home.
Nothing it was perfect.
Hotel fee included excellent traditional spa!!
The hotel facility seems a bit old, but very classic and acceptable.
Worth staying for access to the thermal baths alone. Lovely helpful staff, great breakfast and beautiful stained glass windows everywhere. Probably one of my favourite hotels ever.
Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Arrived with jet lag and would have liked tea and coffee facilities in room.
Lack of uk TV and the prices of pay per view were ridiculous
Location perfect Staff very helpful Breakfast superb
Bathroom needs renovation Room cleaner were not so good
Hotel location is fantastic, but the hotel has seen much better times
Room equipment is simply inacceptable. Furniture and bed are at least 60 years old. They simply do not care anything. Carpets also look dirty and more than consumed. For breakfast they receintly intoduced instant coffee machines. Soon theyprobably will not offer real coffee except if paying for. This also is inacceptable
I really like this hotel. I've stayed here twice. First of all I find the staff helpful and nice. Even though I usually dressed very causal, the staff is polite and smiles. And most of them speak English. The location is very good, just across the river from the famous food market. The first time you enter your room, the small is a little stale, but that dispappears after 10 minutes with the window open. Make sure you get a room with view over the Danube. The view is one of the best in Budapest. There's bathrobes for each person in the room. You can walk right down to the famous hot baths without leaving the hotel. First time the entreance is included, after that it's half price. These baths alone is worth the whole price.
A flashback to how hotels used to be. Consequently things like the bathroom were a bit dated and worn, but that I suppose is part of it's charm.
Restaurants and bars outside the hotel are a distance away from this old landmark building. But the hotel was there first!
Fantastic location, excellent spa, culturel experiences
A bit worn out
Helpful staff indeed. Wonderful location and beautiful views
the hotel looks a bit tired - needs a bit of a facelift
The "cleaness" of the bathroom!!!
Location: close to the citadel within a very nice walk uphill, and close to the metro station. The spa is accessible from the hotel. The buffet breakfast is excellent and the coffee is fantastic.
The rooms are poorly furnished and not clean.
The hotel has a great breakfast including different kinds of juice, cereal, musseli, bread, omelet and susages. The breakfast is really delicious :)
The room, bathroom and toilet are so small and there were no slippers. The furniture is too old.
worst room with a beautiful view
Staff attitude and helpfulness Food generally for breakfast and in the brasserie and tea shop Character of decor in main areas
I had a room facing one of the courtyards so it was wonderfully peaceful most of the time, but in the middle of the night each night someone was emptying bins or something and it was very loud.
the atmosphere,the service,the breakfast,the public areas.
the room was old and not well kept, especialy the bathroom.the isolation of the window was not in order
The style of the place.
