Enjoyed most of everything: That we stayed in a house right in the middle of padi fields was one. The creatures that lived around that condition was the other. We could go back to the sounds of crickets, small birds swarming the rice grains, ducks moving through the padi fields, fireflies, tiny snakes, and of course all the wonderful staff and boss at Alamanda.
The prayer that comes on at 4am in the morning and the farmer who goes out shouting at the birds at 5am.
Everything you need to discover jogja and it's surroundings can be found at this clean, comfortable, quiet and friendly place. The manager frans and his entire staff were extremely helpful. A big bonus is their royal breakfast, it was the best I've had in Asia do far. The rooms are fully equipped, tidy(cleaned every day) and spacious. I would definitely come again and I recommend you give this place a try, you won't regret it. Worth every penny.
The bathroom : not clean enough, many ants and the floor full of dried flowers. The service : the staff doesn't pick up my laundry, and the time we'd like to check out, the laundry still on the laundry box of the former room ! Hospitality : such a rude and temperamental and emotional owner, Frans ! His voice yelling to the staffs could be heard clearly to our room ! Just because I'm asking the driver to checking my glasses left in the car, he is yelling : I'm the boss here, and every communication should be to the BOSS ! Not a proper way to serve the customer, he should learn Indonesian culture more if he still wants to do business here ! Never again visit this place !
Free transportation from and to the airport or bus station, excellent staff, great room with outdoor bathroom with view of the rice fields, good breakfast, nice garden for socialization, great new restaurant within walking distance with good foods and beautiful outdoor setting, easy drive into the city and tourist attractions
Being waking up early by roosters and early prayers
It was my wonderful experience having lodged at a solely managed male dominated B&B. Apart from being brought around by awesome tour guides, they ensured breakfast being served fresh with healthy spread. Mr Frans, a fatherly figure to all his employees, was full with great enthusiasm to providing the best and excellent services to his guests. He was too efficient that you do not have to follow-up with any of your requests; be it for sight-seeing, food, or any queries you may have. Just tell him your heart's desire, and he will do the magical work for you. This small but cosy property has a standard, deluxe and junior suite rooms at the main building. While there are several large beautiful bungalows located at the center of padi field. You may dine at their newly opened romantic restaurant named Rosella. It serves fabulous spread of ala carte western to Javanese cuisines at a fairly reasonable price. I strongly recommend this place for anyone looking for an accommodation that is just like home. You will never feel alienated as the family atmosphere makes everybody at ease mingling around.
view outdoor shower extremely friendly staff visits cost
- warm welcome with soto (and including the free pick-up from the airport) - Frans and the team helped us to understand the culture (i.e. trip to local village and the local market) and arranging all the "must-see" trips such a Borobodur - All facilities where very good (the room, the bathroom and breakfast as well) - The room is in a very nice place (amidst a rice paddy with sometimes the volcano in the back), looks good and is very hygienic - The possibility to have an (really) early breakfast before a trip was arranged without even asking for it (so very service minded) - Received valuable input about nice places to visit elsewhere in Indonesia - All the transport needed is provided for (for a relatively low fee); we were even given a little cell phone to give Frans a call to have us picked up. - Breakfast is together with all the other guests, which allows for easy contact with others (but you are not forced to do so) - One of the employees of Frans has started a restaurant around the corner which provides nice food, so this can be a solution for dinner (we ate there 3x times during our 3 nights)
- It is outside of Yogya, for us this was a huge plus (not as busy and nice views) and completely compensated for with the easy at which we could arrange for transport to all the “hotspots” So for us, there were no "cons" to staying here. Very recommended!
The owner's approach to the clients, everything can be adjusted to their needs.
This place is amazing! Frans and his team do their best to make your stay perfect. Everything is possible and everything is arranged and taken care of. The tourguides are really nice and at the end of our stay, they felt more like friends then just guides! Also Richie's food is the best we have had on our trip through East-Java and Bali! The next time we're going to Yogya we are definitly staying here again.
We only booked 3 nights here, leaving was very hard...
We really enjoyed our stay at Alamanda B&B. Frans and his team did their best to make our trip unforgettable. The place has beautiful surroundings, we stayed in a lovely bungalow, we got tasty and filling breakfast every morning. They have a great selection of trips (city tour, Borobudur, Prambanan, Merapi, etc.) and also they are flexible with organizing (you can modify the trip if needed). Frans sent us a lots of useful information in advance (regarding trips, entrance fees, best time to visit a given place, travelling in Indonesia, etc.). - also his guides and drivers are very nice and they provide you a lots of interesting and useful information about the area and the attractions. And you get it ALL for a very reasonable price! Very positive experience, absolutely recommended!
Everything was OK.
The staff are very friendly and make you feel like home. The room was nice and clean. We regret that we couldn't stay longer than 3 nights.
Our room had a big window overlooking the road so we could hear quite a lot of noise from the street.
Service, everybody was really caring and wanted to make our stay as perfect as possible, great breakfast, really nice restaurant close by, great drivers and friendly staff, everything was just perfect. I would go there any time again
Nothing to complain
Best thing about Alamanda Hotel are the staff: super friendly and helpfulf, they'd go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
We had an amazing stay at Alamanda B&B! Frans, the Dutch owner, and his staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and make your stay here unforgettable! The tours to all the highlights in the surroundings are organized directly from Alamanda, which is extremely convenient! The cottages in the middle of the ricefields are absolutely idyllic and the main house is just very comfortable. We stayed in the room on the 1st floor with the balcony, it was great! The very complete breakfast, the outdoor bathrooms, the scenery amidst the rice fields, the best sate ayam of Indonesia with the best peanut sauce ever, the comfy couches... I can go on for a while, but you should just stay here and experience yourself! Keep up the good work, Frans! We would love to stay longer and are wishing to go back here one day... :)
Everything was great!
The cottages were neat and pleasant environment.
It was a nuisance with Frank, the owner. I requested for a seperate vehicle for my family for which he made a big fuss. Trust me the way he acted and the scene he caused totally made our trip very unpleasant. He should be manner full to respect other peoples request. My parents were shocked at the he shouted at us when requested for a seperate vehicle. Since the place is a bit far from the city centre it is quite hectic to get around.
The B&B was extremely cozy, we felt literally at home there. Frans, a Dutchman living in Indonesia for more than 18 years, and his people made great efforts to make our stay comfortable and they definitely succeeded. It's located outside the city, which makes it to be quiet and relaxing, and it's surrounded by rice fields, very authentic! Being far from the center was no problem because they drove us there when necessary, showed us Yogjakarta and picked us up afterwards. We also arranged a visit to Borobudur and Prambanan with them, totally worth it. Frans prepared breakfast and even lunch for us every day and explained us many things about the real Indonesia, what you don't get to perceive as a tourist.
It's really impossible to say something negative about this place, we're just sorry we stayed only two days and not longer.
The sightseeing trips were well planned. The drivers were nice and courteous and we had pleasant trips.
The owner of the B&B (frans) is rude. The AC wasn't working and it was terribly hot in the villa. When we complained about the problem, he walked into our room without knocking and started screaming. Told us it will be fixed next morning. When we checked again next morning, he screamed at us again and asked us to leave!!! The paddy field is a sham not pretty at all. Too many insects inside and outside the property. Wouldn't recommend any one to stay here. We went to the Hyatt for the second night and totally loved the stay there. Hyatt is a beautiful resort with nice swimming pools and landscaping. Price is not very different.
Overwhelming hospitality, perfect service, adapting to the travellers needs and intentions
Difficult adapting to manners in a distant country...
the location, the people, the staff, the environment, the service, the friendliness, everything!!
Great personalized service and a perfect retreat for a relaxing holiday!
Our experience at Alamanda was very pleasant and efficient. This bed and breakfast allows for a more relaxed and slightly rural experience, while still being quite close to the city. We appreciated that Alamanda employed locals and that it was an artsy space where most of the art is made by Ritchie, a staff member, and potentially for sale. Logistically, everything was smooth. Alamanda provided on-time airport pick-up and drop-off, delicious food as requested, and rides/tour guides for whatever we wanted to see (thanks Anton and Joe!). It is very well situated to accommodate tourists wishing to see the city, a small typical village, and Borobudur and Prambanan temples. Frans, the owner, and all his staff were very friendly and fun to chat with and everyone spoke English well. The room was pleasant and relaxing, and we especially liked the open-air (but still private) bathroom and the porch looking over the rice field (be sure to look for fireflies at night!). Highly recommended!
Although we enjoyed Frans' enthusiasm and were grateful for all the time he took to share his experience of the area, he may occasionally be too enthusiastic for some tastes.
This was an amazing experience for us. The place itself is beautiful in the middle of a rice field. The rooms are very well decorated and the outdoor showers very refreshing. We enjoyed the food and the tours offered. Many thanks to Mr. Frans and the team for making us feel like at home!
The Alamanda is more than just a B and B. It runs a range of tours to near, and not so near, sights as well as providing for the other transport needs of guests. Frans and his team will also advise on things to do, places to see and restaurants to eat in. They will cook evening meals as well if you choose to eat in. Communal breakfasts and shared tours mean that you get to meet other guests from around the world.
The location is both a strength and a weakness. The upside is that you live and sleep in bungalows and joglos located in the paddy fields at the edge of town and have an amazing view of Merapi. On the other hand, you will need to drive to get to most Yogyakarta sights.
Exceptionally guest-focused. Nothing was too much trouble for our host Frans and his very obliging team
No complaints at all
nicely located among the rice fields. Close to an interesting village The manager is efficient and willing to help
we do not recommend the room over the reception hall. It is noisy specially between 3:30 am and 4 am when guests depart for sunrise tours. The door is a glass door so light gets into the room. There is no restaurant for dinner within walking distance.
