It's not perfect... but you have to remember, it's Bali. Also, Ellie's is not a resort. You get what you pay for (or more so, here). The towels could be newer/cleaner, and there could be less bugs... but this is likely the case no matter where you are on the island, no matter how expensive. We visited the overpriced resorts, and we stayed at a more expensive location in Ubud, and Ellie's can compete in it's own right. (We couldn't get the Gecko out of the room in Ubud, but we managed to at Ellie's : )
And you might be woken up by barking dogs and/or calling roosters in the AM... but it's not as bad as the screaming birds in Ubud : /
Like I said, you're there for an experience, it's Bali, go with an open mind and you'll have a wonderful time.
Would I stay there again? Yes, but I'd split my trip with another resort or a place in Ubud also.
This is not a resort, so don't expect it to be. It's a quaint bed & breakfast type of place with a very courteous staff who will do whatever they can to keep you happy and accommodate your stay. This is a good choice for a place to stay while exploring the rest of the island and seeing all the interesting aspects of Bali -- Ellie's shouldn't be your "destination" but rather your hub to rest and recoup. For the price it's well worth it, and you're fairly central to most destinations. The pool is nice, the breakfasts are a delight, and if you're lucky to be there when no one else is, it's very private.
