To give the manager credit he did up-grade us, free of any extra charge, to a lovely superior room (suite), at the rear of the hotel, a much moderner room with a walk-in shower and on the ground level. He was determined to have us stay at his hotel. With this room change we decided to stay.
The pool is delightful and the gardens beautiful but at reception there was never any warmth, unless the younger staff were on duty. There is free wi-fi but it is very, very slow.
I had not heard from Lumbung Sari Cottages since November 16th 2014 and my only notification of recent times was from Booking.com before leaving home to fly to Bali.
I arranged transport from Legian to Ubud and on arrival at Lumbung Sari in Ubud, all I can say is we met arrogance and attitude from the manager, not a very pleasant welcome at all. Apparently he had sent a driver to a hotel we had originally booked into, but not stayed in, in Legian and I had not remembered that he had offered transport for us (at a cost, not free) from there to Ubud (in November). A genuine mistake on my part and one I apologised for, then and there, a number of times. He would not let the matter go, until he finally gave us our room key, a good 5 to 10 minutes after our arrival in reception! It was certainly not what we had come to expect from the Balinese people. The reception of this hotel is dark and small and not inviting at all.
We were then shown to our room. It was up 2 flights of stairs and each step was at least 10 inches in height. There was no-way my daughter and I were going to manage going up and down these stairs during our 5 night stay.
The next morning we went to breakfast at 10.30am and noticed flies all over the breakfast food, very disturbing. The following morning we went to breakfast at 7.45am to be able to eat freshly cooked food. There is no restaurant or room service at this hotel. (Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 11am)
There is a 'stingy' feeling surrounding the management of this hotel.
The staff are pleasant enough, especially the younger staff. Our compliments to Kadek AK (lady) and Kadek 2 from Bali (man) who actually restored our faith in the Balinese and made us feel welcome during our stay, with a smile and hello, thank-you.
At approximately AUD87.00 per night, I would not call this a cheap hotel for Ubud, Bali, yes it is in an excellent position, but I would suggest finding a hotel more welcoming.
