A wide astonishing view from the Bintang 2 Villa, Service excellence and staff curteousness, peaceful and loving atmosphere, free shuttle to Ubud center, beautiful collection of art at the gallery and resort museum.
Unique place combining mountain resort, gallery and museum under one roof. Excellent service, the staff is so helpful that they are there before you even ask
Was waken up by cockerels and chickens from the neighbouring village every day.. But this voulu not be helped by the resort staff of course
i stayed only for i night during my trip around bali. Did not plan to go there but i found it in my way. I was lucki to find such a nice place near ubud. Strongly recomended
The place is almost magical! It's set up as a gallery/ park. During the entire stay we did not see any people (almost). Quite private and quiet. Great breakfast, only couple of options of recur open style breakfast but tasty fresh foods and served to your villa if you like. Staff was smiling, friendly and helpful. We rented bikes one morning to go and take photos of nearby rice paddies in the morning sun. Stunning! If you are looking for a place to chill, stay away from lively Ubud and wake up to a view of rice paddies and forest, this is a place for you. We loved Ubud- you could go there anytime. Take around 15-20min. Staying in T.Merah was a nice mix of town life, great cafés and buzz and quiet evenings/ mornings, lazy swims and time with a good book.
Slightly further away from town (Ubud) than we thought. You pay around 60k rupiah to come up from Ubud- ride to town is offered free by the Tanah Merah driver. Internet in our villa was down during our stay, which was a little disappointing (needed some internet time).
Studio room with nice furniture, pool, one way free transfer to center
Noise from staff talking during the night, Slow service during breakfast
The room was impressive. Good breakfast. ice location and pools.
Chickens and ducks next to the hotel crowing, do not let a good relax. Wi-fi is poor.
Stayed here last month. This is a complex of several individual villas- all different from each other in decor and size. As well, there is one small 6-plex of studio rooms - new, large and nicely appointed. The property is lovely, sitting on a river gorge - lush, with great views. Two great pools, lots of lounge area. Lovely dining room; different great breakfast area. Excellent large, fresh breakfasts. Staff are helpful and friendly. The owner, Peter, is a very interesting man - willing to please his guests; clearly dedicated to his staff and the local village community.. He has an amazing art gallery as well as "The Collection", which he encourages you to visit. We enjoyed our stay...however, a few tips: be very careful as you view the website to note the different rooms...and be quite specific about what you want. We stayed in a villa for the first 4 nights (probably the oldest one on the property) and while it was large, it's décor was tired, and the bathroom in desperate need of renovation. On our last night, Peter moved us to a brand new room...very nice. The complex is about 10 minutes from the middle of Ubud. We liked this - nice to be in the lush riverbank - complementary shuttle to town whenever you need it. Only $5 cab ride back to home base.
Tenah Merah is nestled into the local village....between two farms. Be prepared for early morning rooster wake-up. Note - the studio complex sits right up against a pig farm and the odour can be very strong. Note 2 - the staff are quick to help with any organized tours. However the same tours can be booked along the main street in Ubud for half the price.
Huge room Friendly owner Art collection The pool Environment
Wifi was too bad Basic breakfast
Too many steps to everywhere
The traditional and antique style The owner passionate about indo arts with a great collection into a museum and gallery within the hotel
Shuttle bus available to go to Ubud town but best to have its own way of transportation Food was so so
Wow. I have travelled a lot in business and pleasure but I have never tried anything like this. Fantastic staff, nice rooms, great atmosphere. You must see the gallery and exibition.
Well, we had to leave in the end...
The hotel was in a beautiful location with views over the tree tops. Staff could not be more helpful, always eager to assist to your every need. One even went out to a shop for us! The food was very good and although more expensive than in the local village, it was of a very good standard. Breakfast was included and delicious. We stayed in the private villa with pool and have never been in a room so wonderful before! The room was beautifully decorated with local artifacts and information about the history of Bali and Mads Lange. The pool was wonderful, an infinity pool with stunning views. Peter, the owner, clearly loves Bali and Indonesia and this is clearly reflected in the hotel. Don't forget that all purchases have added tax and service on the final bill, although this is clearly stated in the menu and is common place over Indonesia.
We stayed at Mads Lange villa and it was completely perfect! You have your own pool and jakuzi just near the valley with breathtaking view of forest and river, take your drink and enjoy infinite pool while looking valley.Staff were helpful, food were delicious you can have your lunch or dinner in villa, taste traditional beef in restaurant! Villa is really big, nice decoreted and with full of history. You feel like you are staying in musem:) Dont leave from Tanah without visiting their Gallery , they have perfect collection!
The beautiful surroundings, the peace, the food and the well organised clean facilities. It's a privilege to stay there. It's a reasonable distance from Ubud but in a beautiful area with nice walks among rice paddies.
We absolutely loved staying at the Tanah Merah! Although it is located a little bit outside of Ubud the location is fantastic since it is close to the forest and river, which is very idyllic and they offer free rides into ubud anyway. the infinity pools as well as the rest of the resort is beautiful, especially the bathroom in the cottages is stunning and the staff is very friendly. We arrived a couple of hours before check-in and it was no problem at all.
If anything, there aren't enough sun beds at the larger infinity pool.

I loved this place and that was the 2.nd time i stayed there when i was in Ubud. Normally it is bit far away from ubud central, but it is worth the see the this place! Nature, staff, atmosphere of the area, everthing is amazing!
We checked in at the hotel on 19.06.2014 against our booking through your website. There was serious misrepresentation regarding the hotel on booking.com.The Resort is shown as a five star property with 5 star rating .However when we reached at the hotel and tried to check-in , we were surprised to see that there was no proper reception or front office .Rather there were two hunter dogs (Rotwielers ) who started barking and charging at us the moment we alighted from our vehicle. When we tried to point out about the lapse in keeping these dangerous dogs open at the main entrance ,instead of being sorry about it they made light of the situation without releasing the risk to the customer. There was no proper check-in , as we were not asked to fill up any registration form or were asked to provide our identity details , which is a usual practice for checking in, in any hotel of any star rating. We were directly led to our room , on reaching our room , we were told told that there was no electricity supply. On asking that if they had a power back up/generator or not , they simply replied by saying that they do not have power back up / generator and asked us to go outside at the market place or wait at the pool and the power supply will resume .It is pertinent to mention here that the resort is situated at a remote area, and lack of power supply is frequent. Therefore, the hotel should maintain power backup as a basic requirement since the customers will be put at an inconvenience if the power goes off specially at nite.Booking.com has listed the property as five star , and based on that we made the reservation resulting in great inconvience and difficulty . The resort is not a home stay or a rental place where such facility may not be a basic expectation of the customer. But when a place like Tenah Merah which claims to be a five star property on booking.com and is endorsed by booking.com and is charging a substantial amount i.
- nice breakfast - big enough portions - nice view - wonderful rooms - cute dogs of the owner - free transfer to Ubud
- on the pictures it is like there was an infinity pool - but it is not
Staff were very helpful, the views were amazing.
Quite far from ubud centre
Loved that the location was a little out Ubud centre and in amongst the rice fields, overlooking the jungle with the sounds of a waterfall. Genuinely one of the most beautiful places ever. The staff were friendly and the gallery/collection was amazing.
I didn't like leaving.
We were staying in one of the cotages, which was very cute and beautiful. The location is just perfect, the area of hotel and pools were good. I liked how silent it was and that I could hear birds and river. Breakfast was good.
No transfer from airport available for flights which arrive late in the evening (10 pm) which was very disappointing. The second day we asked for transfer to monkey forest, on the way we wanted to stop to chaneg money, when we were done with exchange of money which took just 2 minutes and wanted to get back to car to head to monkey forest, we realized it has left!!! without informing or at least a goodbye or such. All the prices for everything was in USD which gave me the feeling that I am in states instead of Indonesia, which we had to recalculate all the time to figure out in indonesian Rupiah or Euro. The menu in restaurant was very limited for vegetarians, and what ever we ordered from vegetarian section was sold out anytime I asked. The only remaining thing left was garden mixed salad which was very simple, and full of very sweet dressing. The other vegetarian option was pasta Napolie, which was over-cooked and tasteless. The restaurant although beautiful and nicely decorated was the weakest point of hotel. As a vegetarian I had hard time there.
Everything! Just leaving from there was sad... Do not forget to visit the excellent museum!
I liked the super friendliness of the staff at Tanah Merah, the wonderful location among the native trees of Bali, the wonderful breakfasts in the morning, the very helpful taxi driver Maney, the beautiful swimming pools especially the small pool, the happy smiling faces of the Balinese people and the amazing museum of art, that the owner Peter Bloch allowed us as his guests to witness and enjoy.
The climb down into the bathroom - it is a bit of a hazard for older folks.
