Arbutus HotelCollege Street, . Killarney (Show map) Excellent, Score from 36 reviewsIn the center of Killarney, Arbutus Hotel has the relaxed atmosphere of a quiet country manor with friendly and experienced staff. The Arbutus is one of Killarney's original hotels, operated by the Buckley family, who have an unmistakable approach to hospitality. It is a 5-minute stroll from the train and bus station, and only a mile from the Killarney National Park. Enjoy a pint of beer in the award-winning Buckley's Bar, which also serves home-cooked meals made from traditional Irish recipes. Each room has its own distinctive décor, and some rooms have the original Celtic Deco style from the 1920s. Hotel Rooms: 25

Friendly Staff Its regular price of 100 euro a night seems a bit steep for such basic rooms.

What I liked the most about the Arbutus Hotel was the friendly staff. Really chatty and helpful. My bag was brought to the room for me and I was offered a complimentary tea or coffee brought to the room (even though tea making facilities provided in the room). The decor is a little dated but in a cosy romantic way. Its a family owned hotel which is good to see still in 2011 where the faceless group hotels have all but taken over. I cant recommend this place highly enough if only for the staff ! Its in a great location, right in the middle of Killarney. And was given a real Irish welcome .a home away from home ! Clare Limerick Room was a bit dark and didn't have great view but central location makes up for this !

I found the staff very helpful and I liked the music in the bar in the evenings. I also liked the open fires and the location I thought that it was quite shabby and did not warrant a 4 star rating. The carpets were worn and staIned and the whole place needed redecorating

Very friendly staff, central location ,parking nearby, good food. Food was keenly priced , but we found 10.80e excessive for two drinks. No "dash" for spirits except red lemonade.A Choice of 7up or white lemonade would be greatly appreciated.

This is a comfortable country house style family run hotel in a very good location for bus and railway-restaurants and nightlife in Killarney town. It was quiet and very clean The room was a large comfortable with country house style decor , nice bathroom, free secure wi fi in room. here is airconditioning Residents lounge had real fire. Staff were brillant, I had an injured arm and they got a male staff to carry my bags to the station. he would not take a tip. the ajoining bar has respected traditional musicians playing there regularly. its a good location for going walking or hiring a bike to go to national park i have no criticisms just to note there is no scenic view from windows

I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff who were also extremely helpful. I also liked the old world style of the hotel. The breakfast was very good. The variety of food on offer is very often not available in such small hotels. The hotel is also extremely central.

The staff was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful. Upon our arrival we were treated to a complimentary tea/coffee, scones and gingercake. The lobby and sitting area were warm and inviting. It was in a central location to restaurants, music and pubs so once we parked our rental car we could walk everywhere we needed to go. A spacious room and bath.

Located in town centre convient to both town and near by national park. Good session of Irish music in hotel bar at night. Hotel car park a little bit far away from hotel, about 300mts.

Good city center location, well worth at the super deal we got, but I would personally look for something else if I was to pay "normal price". Only for people who like old fashion style hotels. The bed was really hard and didn't have duvet covers.

We stayed for one night after an evening at Killarney races. The hotel while not luxurious is comfortable enough and the staff were very friendly. The bedroom was a decent size as was the en suite bathroom. There is free hotel parking close by but we just used the public car park at the back of the hotel as it is only one euro an hour with no charge for overnight. You can access the rear of the hotel from the public car park. We did not dine in the hotel so cannot comment on the food. The hotel has a bit of a dated look to it and could maybe do with a few renovations to freshen it up but all in all we were happy with it and would definitely stay there again. The bed was on the firm side but again we did not see that as a problem indeed many people prefer them that way.

“The location is simply superb, the view from window or balcony constantly changes as the weather does. The staff are helpful and friendly without being intrusive. The food is fresh, local and imaginitively prepared and presented. The grounds are beautiful to walk in, both by day or night. On an after dinner stroll you can round a corner and suddenly behold a magnificent stag grazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with restful decor, and the general ambience of the Lake Hotel is of comfort, understated luxury and old world friendliness and charm.” Berna, Cobh, Co. Cork |
