Not enough time to enjoy everything!
Outstanding location with the type of views that could only be good for the soul. A warm welcome awaited us and Caitlin was more than happy to accomodate our fussy 8 year old with some superb pancakes by special request. The rest of us had a lovely full Irish and we were kept busy munching until more than sated! The family room is huge!! Very clean tidy facility with some lovely walks which much to our childrens delight, we were accompanied on by Caitlins Collie Dog. The Food in Tigh Mheacs (I think is the spelling) in Carna was excellent too and very reasonably priced I might add. We are looking forward to our next visit. Its a wonderful part of the world.
The views were fantastic. Caitlin, the host, is a lovely, friendly and considerate host. The house is gorgeous. The breakfast was lovely. I really enjoyed the fabulous location and the scenic journey getting there.
rustic, price, comfort
access...2.5 miles to nearest village along an unlit dark and narrow road
Kathleen and her daughter, Maura, were wonderful hosts. I loved the location ... definitely in a distinctively Irish Atlantic Coast location ... If you are looking for a city, this is not for you. But, if like me, you enjoy a quiet, contemplative, beautiful coast ... you will enjoy this B&B.
My room was a bit small, but the bathroom (beside it) more than made up for it.
I will definitely return this B&B is fantastic location at the highest possible standard. Thank you so much Kathleen and family!
Caitlin was an excellent host.
We just returned from a week in Ireland and stayed mostly in small hotels. Atlantic Wave was our only B&B and was by far the most memorable part of the trip. It can be a bit tricky to find Mweenish Island and the house but is worth the effort. The house is beautifully located near the water with beautiful views of mountains and the endless stone walls. Caitlin welcomed us warmly (we were a party of four adults) and gave us information on local restaurants and other attractions. Her home is spotless and our breakfast the next morning was hearty and delicious. (I also had the best fish and chips ever at the pub a mile or so away.)We spent hours walking along the beach (always accompanied by Sheba, the resident border collie who was a wonderful tour guide) and the narrow island roads. The scenery is breathtaking. If you want a quiet interlude on your trip to Ireland, this is the place. I can't wait to go back for a longer stay!
The fact that we had to leave the next day.
My sister & I were traveling together. we generally don't stay at B & Bs because we tend to be a little shy. The owner Caitlin was very down-to-earth & friendly, very easy to talk to. It had the most comfortable bed!! And beautiful views of the sea out each window. We were a little stressed when we first arrived, due to having had a flat tire on our rental car. Caitlin gave us some time to get settled, then served us tea & treats. Caitlin told us how to get to the beach & also how to get the the cemetery on the island - where we knew our great grandfather's sister was buried. Later I took the short walk to the beach & was accompanied by Sheba, Caitlin's most awesome & friendly border collie. We played fetch with an old plastic bottle on my walk back. The walk to the cemetery the next day was a wonderful 30-minute walk with beautiful scenery along a quiet road. My sister walked into Carna that afternoon, to the church (if I remember right, it was built in 1842). There is also a grocery, pub, post office & more. The breakfast was huge, very filling & delicious! I would definitely stay here again!!
