Score from 98 reviews Wonderful
The location and the ambience of the hotel.
The hotel was reasonably busy and the staff at breakfast service seemed to be harassed. We had to ask three times for three separate items that had been forgotten.
Everything. Accommodation, location, food, staff, service - the place could not be faulted.
Nothing. There is nothing I could criticise in the place
The location was ideal, close to Kylemore Abbey and pretty close to nothing else... The view from the hotel room was breathtaking. The staff were lovely and really helpful, everything about this place was just perfect.
Bed was super comfy and made for breakfast in bed. View is amazing and the walks around the estate are beautiful. Lovely bathroom and organic irish brand Voya products. The food was lovely but did think the dinner at €65 a head (exc. wine) was quite expensive. Bar food very nice.
Food, walk around the grounds
The hikes around the grounds are gorgeous.
We liked the woodland walks. The breakfast was very good. The open fires at night were very welcoming.
Everything was excellent. would highly recommend the hotel.
The bathroom was spacious with a large bath, two sinks and lots of big towels The view from the dining room over the river was stunning The meal in the bar was delicious The staff were friendly, polite and professional It was lovely and warm and you could control the heat
Not much We could have had slippers, cotton buds and cotton wool.
Because we initially had our room by the stairs and another guest was banging luggage up the stairs (there are no elevators), we were upgraded to a suite. It was wonderful.
Absence of an elevator and the cost of the dinner at 65 euro pp.
Everything! The grounds were so beautiful - autumn colors. Miles of trails to walk. Luxurious accomodations.
Great walking trails - excellent restaurant - just 8 kilometers from the picturesque fishing village of Roundstone.
Location, location, location. Beautiful setting.
Cost of dinner in dining room -- seemed excessive.
What I loved about balnahinch castle was the setting, relaxing atmosphere, food, staff were SO accommodating, friendly, and professional. We will defiantly be back for a longer stay.
The room was spacious The breakfast was good Lovely walks Beautiful scenery
No tea facilities in room
Comfort of room with TV (multiple channels-great) Entrance into reception area warm and welcoming. Fires burning throughout the day great touch. Guide books on the history of the area and castle very informative. Great choice of food for breakfast
Not enough toiletries in bathroom
Wish you had also had a spa/ workout facilities. Would be a nice competitive advantage to consider as distance to things other than fishing, etc is high.
i have been to the hotel before and have always loved it and have a great fondness for it, what i love is the mixture of a high class hotel and intimacy created by staff, a very unusual mixture, also the openess for people to stroll in from outside and have a meal in the pub or just a drink. it is just a very welcoming place in all ways and the river and the pasrk itself, i can t praise this place enough and had another beautiful stay this time with my gown up children to who i wanted to show the place, as they saw it as small children and they loved it too.
there was nothing i did not like
Cozy fireplaces, nice staff, breakfast was amazing!
No amenities (gym/pool etc.), expensive bar menu
Room very small and expensive
The scenic beauty and peacefulness of the hotel's location, the friendly and efficient ambiance created by the staff team, the stunning quality of the food, the style and comfort of the bedrooms, the relaxed atmosphere of the bar and sitting rooms, the stunning views of the river,
The lighting in the bedrooms was poor in places for example at the dressing table and at the wardrobes. The bathrooms could do with some more shelf space.
Out of all the castles we stayed in this was the one that topped the list and really felt like a CASTLE. The owners have spent a lot of money maintaining the property both with respect to the interior and grounds. There are lovely walks and gardens to explore. Particularly enjoyed the service of the young Italian server in the dining room; polished and professional.
Expensive but you get what you pay for. Make the most of your stay. It is always fully booked.
Serene and quiet setting with beautiful grounds. The views from the dining rooms and guest rooms overlooking the river are lovely. Service was very good in the restaurants.
We found the interior, both hallways and our two guest rooms a little tired. Recognizing this is a castle and not built recently, we expected to see character of an old castle with much more luxury in the guest rooms. Furniture was chipped, the wallpaper peeling, curtains drab and paint chipped on the walls and dirty corners in hallways. We weren't looking for flaws, but were surprised that for the price of the rooms they were not appointed in a more luxury and 5 star manner. Some TLC and a coat of paint are needed. Very expensive and we did not see the value.
Fabulous walks and fishing opportunities. Great food. At atmosphere of elegance
Lack of a spa. I would have loved to have a nice fitness facility and spa at this property.
The weather was great and the walks very relaxing. We had a nice room with views but the bed was too hot becUse of the duvet
The bed only had a duvet which was either too hot or cold to sleep well.
Wonderful surroundings and walkways throughout the surrounding grounds with a range of activities on offer. Also, liked that the hotel has made an effort to reduce it's energy usage and reduce it's carbon footprint.
It would have been nice to have an electric kettle in the room for tea/coffee.
