Fantastic cooked breakfast, one of the best we've ever had. Comfortable, spacious room, nicely decorated too Wonderfully quiet location
Bathroom needs updating Bit of a trek to find somewhere for dinner (5km+), not a big issue for us, but others may find it annoying
* owner * location *quiet *away from it all *bed *breakfast
The hospitality of the owner was excellent greeting us with a nice cup of tea n biscuits on arrival. The room was very nice and also clean the sitting room was well equipped with board games and a t.v if all b&b were this nice i would be thinking of not staying in hotels and in a b&b from now on.
The room was a little on the cold side
Appreciated dog friendly B&B. Great breakfast and helpful staff.
The housekeeper May was the gem
The beds need to be updated
the whole warming experience from the welcome onwards
the owner was very nice and accomodating with my little dog also. A disadvantage is you need the car to get around otherwise very nice.
- Lovely B&B, nice area to relax! - Good breakfast, large variety - Accommodating owner/staff - Clean room/bathroom - Say hi to "Fred" for us!
- Nothing, was a lovely stay
Although we only stayed one night it would be hard to fault Birchdale under any aspect.
Comfortable and relaxed. Excellent breakfast
Would prefer tea and coffee facilities in bedroom
We had a lovely big bed and rooms were very cosy. The owner offered to drop us for our car if we got a taxi back which i thought was a nice touch. Breakfast had a great selection and was served very efficiently. Would stay again
Really helpful owner, gave us a ride into the town late in the evening
Breakfast was made for us. Room was clean and well kept. We were even offered a lifh to our destination the next day
It is a little difficult to find. But wicklow area is full of back roads.
Being in the country side and close to the national park
It was a very comfortable and quiet B & B.
There was no hot water in the shower. I could not take a shower after a long flight from the US.
Tom the host was really friendly and helpful, a lovely man. Our breakfast was freshly cooked and was very tasty
Noise from another guest early in the morning but that can't be helped and could happen anywhere
Very little! The lovely and friendly young college student who was serving breakfast was very nice and attentive, far more than the owner. In fairness he did give us directions and a dinner recommendation but then don't all B and B people do that? He was nothing like the over the top, genuinely cheerful a Irish hosts we had experienced on our two week trip. He wasn't rude just fairly deadpan and abrupt.
This house smells! From the front door onwards there is a very strong old, musty smell. Our room was even worse as the carpet had the fragrance of old shoes or smelly feet. We had to choose what we wanted for breakfast for the next morning when we checked in at 3 in the afternoon. The shared bathroom was appalling. Very old and grotty. A used block of soap on the hand basin which I assume you were meant to take into the shower with you! No shower gel or little personal soaps on offer. I chose not to shower until our next destination rather than share soap in a shower. I placed the spare bed pillow on the floor overnight and when I put it back on the bed the next morning it had short black hairs on it. We found a pair of earrings on the bedside table when we entered the room. Gave them to the owner to investigate ownership. He had the grace to look slightly embarrassed.....just how well are his rooms cleaned after checkout?! Time for a new bathroom, carpet shampoo and cleaning crew for this house. Not sure how this place got the rating it did (which is how I chose it).
We stayed for a night as wanted to stay somewhere quiet and explore the Wicklow monutains. Bedrooms were nice and clean. Rathdrum was close by to go for a bite to eat and couple of drinks. Tom was very helpful in providing maps and sharing his knowledge of the places to visit. Nice B&B would recommend as very accomodating.
We liked the fact that, although we were late and couldn't get mobile phone contact, the proprietor was still waiting for us and made us most welcome. We could also come back to the rooms at any time during our stay, which was most refreshing.
There wasn't anything to dislike
-tolles Frühstück -gute Tipps und Karten zum Wicklow Way -nettes Personal -really good breakfast -great tipps and maps for wicklow way -nice staff
Everything was just great. Nice reception, fantastic room with balcony. Our little dog most welcome. Spotless clean. Great breakfast. Tom even helped us fixing our roofrack by lending us the necessary tools. Great host, great B&B. Would certainly come again!
Transport from B & B to railway station was promised to be free (website), but was not
Our family room was not cramped having no ensuite was no problem there was a lovely robe at hand for modesty. Our breakfast was perfect and having bottled water was nice. Plenty of towels and beds were comfy and cosy. Even though it was a little further out of town than we thought it was fine and our host offers his collection service for walkers which is brilliant . Would definitely return for a walking/hiking break
