Lovely location, extremely friendly and helpful staff, good food and great atmosphere. Will go again as I felt very comfortable in the environment. Bathroom was a little worn and shower could have been cleaner. No TV in the room which I would have expected.

The hotel was exceptionally comfortable and Olde World, but everything worked, if sometimes in a quirky fashion. The staff were helpful and friendly, the food was quite excellent, which was something of a surprise, because that was not really highlighted in the blurb. The room I had was huge, and comfortable, again in an Olde World way. I enjoyed my stay, and will endeavour to go back, this time taking my wife with me. The public road down to the hotel's private driveway was badly potholed and difficult to negotiate, but that is beyond the hotel's control.

Castle grove House is a beautiful house in a stunning setting. The entrance hall, drawing room and dining room are in good condition and decorated in an appropriate manner and there is a country house feel downstairs. The staff are very friendly and chatty, although they lack professionalism and training. There is a conservatory to the left of the house and it is filled with rubbish, has broken windows and is filthy dirty - this is the first thing you see when you arrive. it is a clue as to the condition and cleanliness of the rest of the house. The bedroom was dirty, dust and a dirty carpet. The shower/bathroom was very dirty and the shower was covered in limescale and grime. There is carpet in the bathroom that smells. The fixtures and fittings are of a poor quality - electric shower. There were no toiletries available except one tiny bar of soap. There was no hot water available in the morning. There was no wifi access. There was nothing in the room - paper or even a pencil.Information about the area and facilities was in an old stained out of date book and brochure. It is a shame to see such a beautiful place in such a state of disrepair. Very disappointing

I liked the atmosphere and individual decoration of each room. The shower was very powerful. The breakfast was cooked to order with excellent brown bread. The outside of the house is a bit run-down.

Our stay in Castle Grove House Hotel was wonderful and one we will always remember. The lady of the house and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating in every way. We look forward to returning to Castle Grove in the near future.

We loved this hotel. Set in beautiful grounds, the building is charming and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are full of antique furniture (perhaps too much in places), and the decor a little 'floral' for my taste, but overall a super place to spend a weekend. Food delicious!

Castle Grove is, what it's title suggests, a Country House Hotel. The tree-lined drive from the gate to the house is a gentle, ten-minute walk. Castle Grove has not got the shiny, technological brashness of the international hotel-chain variety, and all the better for that. It is an inviting country home where one is welcomed with genuine, soft-voiced Donegal friendliness. It is a family's much-loved home. Lest anyone fear intrusiveness or nosiness in this, fear not: the attention and warmth is genuine and discreet. Breakfast in one's room, served with quietness and care, is the ultimate, restorative pampering. The drawing rooms and elegant dining room are graceful: the furniture is comfortable and well lived in; the polished mahogany reflects bowls of fresh flowers; the white table linen is crisp, and candlelight twinkles in the wine- glasses: all sets the scene for food lovingly and expertly prepared as for distinguished guests - guests who are friends. While I waited for dinner in the red drawing room, the lady of the house, herself, lit a great fire of logs in the huge grate; as the fire took, Mary told me something of the centuries of history which this house holds in its every corner. As the fire danced and the daylight faded, Lough Swilly sat across the meadows and woodland, below the high, watching windows, and kept its ancient secrets. There are no discos....

I loved the ambiance, the country house feel, the friendly welcome and excellent service. The food was irish country house food at it's very best. I appreciated flowers and fruit in our suite, which was spacious and elega.ntly furnished. The bed was very comfortable with very soft sheets. The dining room is beautiful. Our stay was very relaxing and I would heartily reccomend this hotel and will be back. Finally, the grounds are beautiful and the view of Lough Swilly enticing.......a fantastic setting. Personally my only drawback was the rather old fashioned bathroom, and I dislike carpeted bathrooms and prefer modern and tiled......but it was very clean and really no problem.

Staff. Owner a lovely warm woman giving a sense of a family home. Very helpful man on duty on eveing we arrived. Old house and quiet rural setting. Furnishings not in keeping with an old house. Newer add-ons have taken away greatly from old house.

We were given a fantastic executive room though we had booked a standard. The price was really great. Wonderful countryside location. Excellent and professional staff. We expected something more from breakfast: other comparable places had a buffet one. Though we had read the reviews and we were very careful following directions, we missed the almost unreadable final sign and took sometime to locate the hotel. Please change that sign, it's in a bad place! Read!

Really olde worlde charm with a touch of luxury. The antiques are the real McCoy. Sipping our irish coffees in the comfy armchairs infront of the wonderful roaring fire was perfect after a day touring windy Donegal. Signage to hotel very small and easily missed

Elegant settings. Intimacy and personal welcome and service. Surprisingly good food and the chef took a personal interest to make sure that the diners were enjoying his food. Proximity to Letterkenny if you want a bit of shopping or more lively nightlife. Very close to the Glenveagh National Park and the beautiful Donegal coastline. I felt that I couldn't have picked a better location for my stay. At first, I thought it was a bit 'old', but then, that is precisely its charm and I wouldn't have it any other way.

“A very well maintained hotel that is wonderfully positioned to enjoy all that the North West of Ireland has to offer. The staff were fantastic and could not do enough for us, no matter what time of day or night, even when we had to leave at 3am to catch our ferry, the night porter was making us coffee and toast for our journey. We had a great time riding along the various beaches, and even tried our hands at surfing for the first time! A great first holiday in Ireland and we can't wait to return.” Philip, Gosport |
