We were given great advice about travel by foot and bus in Dublin. Our stay was short, because we were only allowing a "taste" of Dublin, but enjoyed the little time we had because of the ease of getting around. The Charleville itself was a very pleasant surprise. Our room was functional, very clean, and just what we expected. However, the reception area, "sitting room/parlor" and the dining room were exceptionally well-kept and pleasant. i especially enjoyed having the use of the sitting room lae at night when unable to sleep. I also appreciated the help of the evening manager who offered to take my mail to the post on her way home. Very nice.
Solid nice hotel, in a quite place with very helpful stuff
It is a bit far from center and the rooms are a bit small. not enough room from everything
Staff friendly and helpful.
Beds need replacing or repairing. Room very hot and small. No tea or coffee in the room. Room needed decorating. Selected breakfast when booking but unable to change when in the hotel.
good location for hotel. about 20-30mins walk to city centre, same again to Phoenix Park. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean but bit dated and could do with an upgrade. Good value for money though
our room was at the top of the stairs. bit noisy with the reception phone ringing during the night and people coming and going.
location was good. Easy to find
Shower was very poor. Bathroom could do with been updated old press under sink. TV did not have all channels and all mixed up. For cost of accommodation you would expect a lot more as breakfast was extra again.
Really great staff
staff rooms breakfast all good
I have traveled a lot, but in this hotel I had the worst experience. During the day we had gone around the city and at 11 pm when we came back in our "suite" We couldn't take a shower because it didn't work. There wasn't any other room and the receptionist told us that only in the next morning the shower could be adjusted. Why was possible to book a room with problems? Finally I paied the total amount despite I had asked a discount for the disservice. After this experience I had written a mail to Paul Stenson, the General Manager. He "offered us one night’s accommodation for 2 people with Full Irish Breakfast with his compliments." Despite me and my girlfriend tried to contact him for several days, we never received any response. staff without seriousness and professionalism
Front desk lady was extremely helpful.
Staff member knocking on my window at 2am wanting to be let in because they forgot their keys.
near to Dublin center
ugly quarter around the hotel
I am a Dublin person visiting Dublin and this place was fantastic
Didn't offer refund as was out side ten days. Offered an additional night stay free which we didn't want as we are never in Dublin. We rebooked another 2 nights to offer to family members but as the price was hiked up for garth brooks anyway if we had of been "new" bookings we would of got the 2 nights cheaper than what we paid for the original booking. Also when we stated we only wanted assurance no money would be taken from our card the contact from the hotel was not forthcoming. When we rebooked for another date (as I said for family as was out only option without paying for nothing) the hotel went ahead and charged our credit card for the stay which we had not availed off yet.
Wouldn't offer refund on garth brooks booking and room charged at higher rate cos of the booking
the room was lovely and comfortable and the staff were so lovely to me and my children and welcoming i would recommend to anyone staying in dublin. and thank you so much for a lovely stay.
the room has no air con and there was no tea/coffee facilities in the room.
Convenient location within walking distance of city centre ie about 30 min or bus stop across the road . Staff all very friendly & helpful -those serving breakfast ,the night porter & receptionists
Several failures = internet access, plugs, curtains
Very nice staff and great location. We bought the 3 day pass recommended by staff and we would take the bus to centre it was great. Hotel has good security and price was good.
Location was good for me.
It's hardly a hotel. No meals provided. Poor facilities. No tea/coffee in room. Room was basic. Place was dated.
Friendly staff, good location, excellent breakfast
The place would need some fixing and renovating.
Very friendly staff, good location, big breakfast, big room.
Mouldy ceiling in bathroom
We had a bit of bad luck, and left something in our cab. The lovely Russian woman on the front desk was so helpful and kind, and we actually managed to get it back, thanks to her persistent help. She gave us great recommendations for things to eat and see, and excellent directions. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms clean, breakfast was ready at the ungodly hour of 4:45 for us. Wifi was very good. Easy walk to the hop on hop off bus, restaurants, and so on. Recommend this hotel!
Closeness to Dalymount Park, the purpose of our visit.
No tea/coffee making facility in room.
Lovely common lounge room, good value for money
Having to pay €30 to check in 3 hours early. The dated rooms. The toilet wouldn't flush properly which is embarrassing when your sharing a room with someone else. Clueless breakfast staff mixing up our orders and not having a vegetarian option, being handed a plate full of sausages and black pudding after I'd specifically asked not to have that stuff on my plate. Breakfast was way overpriced for what it was. Everything is old, and I mean everything. The iron and ironing board is a complete joke. Maybe I'm picking but the worst thing about this hotel was it's payment procedures. Firstly it's meant to be "pay on arrival" according to booking.com. However they take the first nights payment from your card the minuet you book. Their defense is that it is returned to you after 5 days. But in those 5 days £80 was missing from my bank account and therefore I couldn't use it. I arrived on the Saturday. I paid cash for my room. When I came home I found that they had taken another 1 night fee off my card. I contacted them once again. They said it was their policy to cover any no shows. They don't even give the option to be a no show because they take this payment 2 days before you turn up??? They then said this money is held for 5 days and returned back to me. However it was 2 weeks before the money went back into my account and in that time 2 of my direct debits were returned and I now have £30 of bank charges. I have tried complaining to the hotel and they ignore my emails. Absolutely disgusting and I am fuming. I'm really temped never to book anything with booking.com again as these policies were never mentioned on their site and if this is the type of hotel they like to deal with then personally I don't want to contribute to their company.
The staff were lovely and nothing was ever too much trouble. The beds were comfortable and the room was lovely and cool during some very hot weather.
There was a bit of a damp/mouldy smell in the hallway outside the room, but this did not affect the air in the room itself. A little unpleasant, but not unbearable.
