The hotel is very clean and modern-the staff cannot do enough for you and the the food in the Stir Restaurant was first class.I have to make a special mention for Trevor the chef, my daughter has a strict diet that she has to follow and Trevor went out of his way to cook her evening meal which she said was the best meal that she had eaten on our 8 day tour around Ireland, he also cooked her a breakfast observing the needs of her diet.We stayed in 7 hotels around Ireland and when booking all of them I requested certain ingredients to conform with my daughters diet and this was the only hotel to confirm my booking request when we arrived and had stocked the items that I had requested.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They did everything they could to facilitate an enjoyable stay. I found the lighting in the room very poor. I like reading in bed but I could not see anything in front of me. There were two lamps in the room but I could find no sockets near the bed to plug them into. Also I found the price of €116 room only excessive for a two night stay. While this was quite typical of the prices in the area generally, for that rate I would have expected breakfast to be included at least.

The staff at reception were very pushy and unhelpful and seemed to just want to get us out of the hotel. My key would not word after we went back to our room after breakfast, when we told the staff at reception she told us that was because it was checking out time. It was 11.15 and all our bags were in our room I thought this was very ignorant and I will think twice about staying here again.

It was easy access from the n7. Food court beside hotel gave great choice. The bar was tiny and was one really with the eating area. No 'pub' feel to it. Staff very scarce, waiting to order a drink for ages. Food was nice but quickly served. Wouldnt be running back for the dining or drinking experience!

I stayed in the Maldron for just one night. I found the receptionist most obliging and helpful. I didn't know where I was going the following day but she went to enormous trouble even drawing a map for me to get me through various roundabouts. The kitchen staff need to be more aware that some people may be in a hurry in the morning. I waited some time for my breakfast in the morning even though there was no one else in the queue as they were having a great chat in the kitchen. The noise level from the adjoining road was quite severe but then I live in a quiet country area!!!

The staff were probably the most polite, nice and helpful I have ever come across in a hotel, not a single member of staff gave us reason to complain or were rude although this is how it should be it's often not the case. A bit expensive having to get taxi's into the portlaoise town and one taxi driver we got to the station from Ace cabs was so unclean and his cab was so unclean it actually made us feel ill!!

Easy access to and from from the motorway and also conveniently close to it. Friendly and efficient reception. Room was perfect: spotlessly clean, a comfortable bed and I had an undisturbed good night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent and though breakfast was self-service there were staff on hand to welcome the guest and to draw attention to, and assist with, the range of wide sustenance available. Check out was speedy and the car park was particularly convenient on a rainy morning. I was in great form when I drove off towards Dublin for a particularly busy day's work ahead.

I liked the friendliness of the staff and the food was excellent too I had asked for a quiet part of the hotel as we had a busy day on departure but the people in the next room caused a disturbance. Once it was reported the hotel staff put a stop to it straight away

The night receptionist was very helpful and friendly. Noisy. No wifi past the ground floor, and the cables in the rooms don't work. My non-smoking room smelled of smoke.

Not a lot, Just that is was at a convenient location. A great deal of all night noise from the adjoining motorway Hotel should install air condition in the rooms overlooking the Motorway, otherwise your cook or suffer the noise when opening a window. The eating facilities did not give credit for a hotel of this standard - more like a motorway service area. Breakfast should be a help your self, and not be rationed or have the chef/server look at you with a look of "don't eat my food" For its age it looked tired and needed some good tlc to bring it up to standard

The staff was always very nice and polite! It's a real pleasure. The swimming pool and the other facilities (sauna, hammam, jacuzzi) give a touch of luxury. The rooms are a bit dark, that's all.

Short on service personnel and also restaurant short on staff. Had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated and additional wait to order. Ordered liver pink in the middle - arrived more than well done.
