Location & Character
Everything that Brendan has done to the place. If you get a chance to spend some time with him, the stories are well worth it.
Wifi was flaky.
Brendan Rohan, the "boss" is great, so welcoming and jolly, made one feel at home. We liked how it was "set-up", spacious and rambling. Comfy sitting rooms on two floors. Easy to help yourself to a drink and pay later. Wifi connection. On signing-in we were given lots of information on where to eat in town and interesting places to visit . Brendan has written a booklet on local history and easy walks in the area, available at the reception. It was great to find a place where we had a comfortable room and our children and grandchildren could park their campers.
Dining room (for breakfast) is a bit too small when the hostel is fully occupied .
Owner's obvious love of his building Good shower Good sleep Great Continental breakfast In touch with local history
a really warm and friendly staff you felt like you were at home really enjoyed our stay Brendan was an excellent host very knowledgeable
Very basic, pay the extra few euro and stay in a hotel in the town
It did have an old world character, very interesting features in rooms and on walls.
It was cold in the room. The room had some nice features, but there was a lack of care in things such as curtain poles that fell down when you tried to close the curtain and holes in the curtains.
Pretty décor Quirky A reasonable breakfast Nice view
Staff weren't there at desk when came to check in, so I had to wait Noise
The familiar atmosphere, the original and tasteful equipment and furniture of living- and breakfast(dining)room, the excellent tips of Brandon(the hostelowner) what to do, Horn Head, boat trip to Inishbofin, the wonderful beaches
The friendly atmosphere
We booked into the lodge for 3 nights and were instantly taken aback by the beauty of the facilities and the surroundings. The entire place is laden with history and charming character that makes you feel homely and welcome. The staff were friendly and Brendan - the owner - gave us valuable tips and insight on where to go in the area as well as how to get to the mountains to climb. He also arranged for us to take a trip out to Inishbofin island, which we wouldn't have done normally but it turned out to be one of the best parts of the trip. Breakfast was included, which was an added bonus, and the room and bathroom were lovely and clean. The location was perfect as well with easy access to Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh. We would happily stay there again.
We read some reviews before the stay and some of the negative ones are misleading. We don't have any complaints!
Our host Brendan had the most interesting accommodations for us, it was perfect. It was comfortable and included a great continental breakfast. We had only planned to spend one night but liked it so much we spent two nights. He told us some history of a small island called Innis Bo Finne just off the coast. He set up a boat ride out and back and we spent most of the day out there. We got to swim off a beautiful white sandy beach. We will be telling everyone about our great experience there. Thank you Brendan!
There was nothing we did not like.
Brendan is a well of local information and a very friendly guy.
There were only blinds (of a sort) on the windows and not curtains. We were woken by the daylight at 6am and didn't get back to sleep. The walls are paper thin and you don't get much privacy!!! We could hear Brendan talking at reception as if he was in the room with us.
Location is spectacular, buildings are quirky and interesting, you can tell that the owner has put his heart and soul into the renovations.
Felt some of the staff were very young and inexperienced, when I asked for a coffee, was shown a cold pot of coffee and told I could put it in the microwave! Bit overpriced for what you got...we paid 80euro for twin room with en-suite,meagre and uninteresting continental breakfast. Suitable as a hostel but not B&B.
We stayed in one of the private rooms which are very cozy. Guests are also welcome in the hostel, at the camp place or you can park your motorhome. The place (located in the hills near Dunfanaghy) is rebuild in the old style and is therefore very peaceful and pleasant to stay. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Family friendly.
Please don't expect this place to be a trendy hotel.
The character of the place and the friendly owner who took time with his guests to explain the locality.
The staff had limited English and misinformed us about charges for paying with debit or credit cards. No television in the common room.
The views were interesting.
This property is up for sale and not kept up. It wasn't cleaned properly and the staff that we dealt with had problems with English. The mattress...well, I'm sorry that I looked at it. This is not a place for people with asthma. Would not stay here ever again.
The character of the place and the diversity and mix of the accommodation - makes it interesting and alive. We had the apartment so we had space and comfort when we wanted to be indoors. The breakfasts were great and the staff were helpful and informative. If you need a traditional stay then maybe this is not for you but we loved it.
The sofa in the apartment didn't really give a good night's sleep - maybe provide a light topper type mattress and then all will be well!
The owners were excellent and very friendly and we were very happy with our room!
The woman on reception wasn't helpful and wasn't available at the desk.
Good location Staff helpful
Bedroom 1, creaky beds and sewers smell in bathroom
The Italian lady was nice
Its very very basic and quite a dark place inside.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Nice surroundings and comfortable room upstairs where you can play games or relax with a drink.
Our room was not very clean. I was there with my young children and had to keep them away from window sills as there were cobwebs/dead flies on there.
STAY AWAY. staff's bad English. need Irish staff at front desk to explain hostel and surroundings. menu said Irish stew available but not today!! No glasses in room and tiny. way too expensive! 90 Euro. Previous hotel 4 star was 84 euro for 2 beautiful rooms. Had pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub AND full Irish breakfast.
Friendly relaxed staff. Location was amazing. Accommodation was delightfully quirky yet comfortable & reasonably priced. I'd go back.
