This hotel is very well located, we were at 10 min from the city centre on foot.

You ate the evening at the bar of the hotel, it was cold in the room and the service was long, even if the meals were copious and good. As for the breakfast, the room was chilly and the Irish breakfast wasn't a genuine one, for instance the pudding was not very good.

After some issues with our initial room allocation that made our stay less than pleasant, I have to say that staff were very helpful in rectifying the hotel's physical problems. Bar staff were helpful in accomodating a request for food at the end of the service period. Location is extremely picturesque. Nearness to town centre is also good. Food perfectly acceptable for 3-star standard.

Initial room appeared to have suffered water damage after a recent leak and was malodorous and stained. In fairness, it was in the original part of the hotel and may have been suffering from age and different building standards at time of construction. Reallocated room was fine. Access corridor to leisure facility had also obviously suffered water damage- carpet was stained and slight damp/musty odour. No facility to secure lockers in leisure centre. Several parts of hotel need a paint/varnish job.

The room was clean, warm and comfortable, had all the mod cons and with a good size bathroom. The room itself was good value for the price we paid.

There was no heat in the hotel corridors or in the breakfast room. Guests had their breakfast wearing their winter coats (a December weekend). Parts of the hotel also look a bit run down.

The hotel was friendly and comfortable. The staff were excellent. From the moment we came through the entrance there was a welcoming feeling. We ate in the bar and the food was excellent with a friendly and charming atmosphere. As the hotel was not busy we had been upgraded from a family room to a adjoining double rooms.

I liked the location. Service staff in the bar and function room were friendly.

I was there for a wedding and the hotel did'nt quite live up to my expectations. However it was'nt bad. Perhaps I had too high an expectation of it. I did'nt like the fact that I was asked to pay for our room when checking in. The receptionist said it was because they were busy with the wedding. Also the towels were pretty small.

The bar is a disgrace and desperatly needs updating, furniture broken and uncomfortable, there is a room opposite the lift to the rooms which is very old fashionly decorated which is not of upkeeping with the reception area and there is an extrmely musty smell which overtakes the whole corridoor. The rooms are very large, it would be better to have either 4ft or double beds in there, housekeeping is not great as there were staines on the bed cover of one bed, a broken arm of a chair, tv and remote control broken, mould in shower, shower head broken. I would not stay here again or recommend to anyone, which is a shame as it is lovely building just needs updating

We stayed at the downhill to attend a family wedding and we throughly enjoyed our stay. All staff were very friendly at all times. The service we recieved during our stay and inparticular the wedding reception was great. Loved the gardens!!

We had a family room and were situated in a noisy area of the hotel - with young children not ideal! our room was over the foyer/bar area and as there was a function on in the bar we struggled to get to sleep until 1am. Also the ensuite door wouldnt shut properly and we found (actually our two year old found) a used plaster under the dressing table. we thought the room could have been cleaner and the decor could have done with a freshen up.
