Situated in Sheephaven Bay on the picturesque Atlantic Drive, this award-winning hotel offers fresh, locally sourced food and free Wi-Fi. Its spacious bedrooms offer luxury toiletries. Rooms feature soft furnishings and private bathrooms. Guests can make use of a TV, tea/coffee-making facilities, and a hairdryer. The Haven Restaurant serves fresh ingredients alongside an elegant and varied wine menu. JC’s Bar boasts 4 big-screen plasma TVs and an extensive bar menu cooked to order, while Wheelhouse Bar features live entertainment and karaoke. Guests can also enjoy free access to the nearby local leisure centre. The leisure centre has a modern, fully equipped gym and a swimming pool, and is located half a mile away. Location very good for our purposes. Staff helpful No shampoo in bathroom/ Cooked breakfast bland/ not enough choice on tv channels/ when having a bar meal the four (or more?) televisions were blaring sports news constantly. Would recommend only for location.

Room and service were excellent. Hotel was warm and had a nice atmosphere even though it was quiet at this time of year. We had breakfast & dinner here and both were lovely.

I really liked the location, right at the heart of the village and next to the beach entrance. There was always ample parking too. The breakfast was very good and the service was friendly and efficient. We tried the restaurant and the bar food and were pleased with both. We'd definitely stay at this hotel again. Absolutely no complaints.

Peaceful surroundings, good food, fabulous scenery, and a good pint of Guinness in the local pub! The fact that you had to drive to the Leisure Centre, the hotel lounge lacked atmosphere even though they had a small band playing! Head-waitdress in restaurant came across as a abrupt at times!

I liked the proximity to the beach.The check in staff and the cleaning staff were friendly. The hot water tap in the family room did not work and so the four of us could not have a shower.When checking out I reported this and was told that everyone else was able to work this tap. This was followed by a call to the kitchen to ask if they had had hot water.When they replied that they had the lady said to me "See".I left feeling that I had been treated rather shabbily.I liked The Downings but I shall never return to this hotel!

The hotel was advertised as having a pool/gym etc. when I enquired as to where it was it was in fact the local leisure centre a mile away! The food was very disappointing.

We were a bit disappointed with the overall experience, mostly because from the other reviews, we were really expecting a fabulous place but, in reality, it's just average. The reception is ok, clean but a bit too dark. The Bar/Restaurant it's fine and clean but nothing special and the food it's just ok, nothing special at all. The room is basic, but spacious and with tea and chocolates and a tv. The carpet was not very clean, the beddings were old or, I believe, not of very good quality. The bed itself was comfortable, as were the pillows. The location is beautiful but there is nothing to do, I would encourage young couples to choose somewhere else to stay. Nevertheless,the staff was very good, professional and welcoming.
