We had the most fantastic 3 nights holiday at Tig Beatha! The barge was beyond anything we could ever have imagined, it was absolutely fabulous, warm, cozy and had everything we needed! Trish and Mick were lovely, friendly and helpful! We simply can't wait to be back again again!
Quiet and comfortable. Driving the barge: Even though I didn't take it thru the lochs....the marina driving lesson was awesome! I felt like a true Captain! Kitchen: Everything you need to make meals. Supermarket was very close. Teenagers: WIFI (better than most hotels) Shower: Nice and very hot water Coal burning fireplace: Cozy and easy to keep going
Toilet....very sensitive and costly if it gets plugged. Understandable though.
We wanted to experience something different and it was a lot better than expected. Trish and Mick who own the barge are lovely people and they made our stay outstanding. The barge is fully equipped with everything you need. You even have coffee in the morning. It is cosy and warm and the bed is absolutely comfortable. The area is quite but within 10 minutes walking distance from O'Connell street. They are lots of shops and restaurants around in the area. If you want to experience something special and live on your own barge then we can highly recommend this. We will definitely go back there soon.
The canal was closed unfortunately so we couldn't sail there. But Mick still showed us around a bit and we could experience how it is to drive a barge.
The boat was excellent. Warm if needed, away from the city noise. Nick was very hospitable and we were able to check-in at a suitable time for us.
The directions were not very clear (but was resolved easily with a phone call). The only problem with this place was that 2 days before the arrival, they wrote saying that cruising is suggested only for those who have experience and that they let us decide when we have had the lesson. But getting there it turned out that cruising is not possible at all (due to heavy rain the past few weeks, the canal was not accessible). This took us by surprise. I would have expected a discount because the boat costs considerably more than an apartment, but a boat without the possibility of cruising it, is just an expensive apartment and we would not have booked it if we had known that earlier.
+ Trish (the owner) + Mick (the owner) + Location, Location, Location + The barge is just perfect + Great experience to cruise through the channels
Loved it . Trish and her husband were so nice, so helpful, so responsive to emails before we got there, so and so accommodating. I travel for a living so being able to go on vacation and NOT stay in a hotel: GREAT!!! Bed was the most comfortable one we had in all of the 13 days we were in Ireland. Super quiet but very close to everything. If you are considering staying on the barge: JUST DO IT!
Nothing! It was perfect.
We loved being on our own barge. Cozy and unique. We enjoyed listening to the rain and stoking the little coal fired stove.
The sound of the water pressure fluctuations woke us up frequently. For the price we paid, maid service ( cleaning dishes, fresh towels ) and better quality linens would have been nice.
The location was perfect. The owners were very friendly and without doubt the highlight was them showing us how to drive the barge and take it out for a drive. Might be the highlight of our whole Dublin trip. Would 100% recommend it to everyone.
Everything. Trish and Mick were lovely. The barge was very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Very peaceful and relaxing. Top location anything you need within walking distance. Taking the barge down the canal was fantastic.
That we had to leave
15 minute walk to the centre or a short hop on the buses. Great location for a stay in Dublin.
In a price of 4 star hotel there were not even a soap or Shampoo If you like to deduce the coal fireplace and to empty the sewage and find it "cool" and romantic this is the place for you
We liked the location and. The opportunity to pilot a barge through locks built in 1790s.
Forget about 5 star hotels - try something completely different: you get a suite with a wonderful soft kingsize bed, and you exchange utmost, boring luxus against something real: really utmost friendly hosts with a great open-mindedness and awareness in a place that really left us speechless: we never tried a houseboat before an living almost on water level, very close to nature and nearly outside - but in a shelter that gives you as much of a home feeling as we could imagine. We are overwhelmed of this place!
Our stay in the barge was absolutely fabulous! The barge has everything you need, it's very comfy and homy. In the evenings, it was very nice to take care of the little fire. The docks are at a walkable distance from the city centre; all the neighbours are very nice too. Trish and Mick are lovely and always very helpful. They were always available during our stay. Mick tought us all the secrets about cruising; thank you Mick!
... On the last day... Typical Irish weather with a loooot of rain .... :)
Great night's sleep - quiet and blissful.
We Loved The "Turf" Fires, The Morning Swan Visit, The Accesible Location, Trish And Mick, And Overall Ambience Of The Grand Canal.
bardge is in a lovely and secure area with good fresh delis, theatres and bars nearby and was near the o2 where we attended a concert. It was comfortable and clean and enjoyed our boating lesson which was included as a fab extra. owners were very helpful. would recommend and will return.
Fantastic location, alternative city living, outdoor lifestyle and slower pace of life - totally recommend it!
The Barge is a great place to stay, in a wonderful location. We are people who are used to camping abd staying in country houses. For us it was a great combination to be comfortable whilst also having a live fire to look after.
We were only there for a weekend. It took us some time to find out how certain things worked. A better - more complete - manual would be great. However we were welcome to call at any time and received all the help we needed.
Everything! Trish and Mick were fabulous and couldn't be more welcoming. The barge was fantastic and such a different and exiting place to stay. I would recommended this barge to anyone!
