The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner set breakfast up early for us and hailed us a cab early in the morning. The Location is great, 5 minute walk from Connolly station and sits at the start of the main shopping area surrounded by pubs. Rooms had lockable wardrobes and cupboards. Wifi worked.
Very Expensive. It cost us double the price of a night in the Radisson where we had stayed the night before in Belfast. All of Dublin was expensive and Durban was the cheapest could find but very overpriced. The guest house is of standard of a Hostel, it is very old tired and dated (but did have some character). Room on 3rd floor was small but had bathroom, shower adequate, creaky old bed and one wobbly old chair. Would be ok for 1 night stay.
Close to station and O'Connel Street. Clean and comfortable. Decent breakfast. Good staff, even carried my bag upstairs. Thankyou.
Nothing. Basic hotel presented well.
Good value, comfortable and clean.
Convenient Location - approximately a 10 minute walk to Trinity College (Book of Kells); Staff - Exceedingly friendly and helpful manager (Mario) and staff; Good Value - 69 euros/night - approx. $197 at the time for 2 nights; Computer available for common use; Sunny breakfast room which was diligently replenished by staff; Continental breakfast was fair to good - good granola or muesli and it included fresh fruit (apples, bananas, oranges); Fairly quiet room on the 4th room, considering the building's location on a busy street.
The room was a bit too small and cramped - I had requested a "quiet" room which ended up being one of the smaller ones we later realized; Inability to access Wi Fi with my IPad although the available computer did compensate for this; Lack of freshly brewed or pressed coffee.
Location was great & the pub around the corner (The Celt) was fabulous for a true Irish experience. Mat was a helpful & courteous staff member who let us leave our bags when we arrived early, supplied us with extra pillows & hand towel.
Could not recommend to any one. Stale constant smell of smoke drawing in throughout the building (staff & others smoke on front steps). We had to seal our door with towels & plastic bag strips to help block the odour. We had a top floor room at the back. There are many stairs which narrow toward the top & it was noisy, yet supposedly quieter at the back! The breakfast was poor & the milk stale. Ended up at a café instead. Shower pressure was very poor. Wafer thin pillows, 2 small towels General state of interior was old & shabby. Such a pity as it has great potential to be excellent. NO VALUE FOR MONEY HERE, WELL OVERPRICED
Good location, within walking distance of O'Connell St., the Liffey, and the bus station.
I think they could do a lot better in terms of furnishings: I had to ask for a bedside lamp so I'd have something besides the nasty overhead. They have no idea about conserving energy: I specifically asked NOT to have new towels every day--this is an absurdly unnecessary and wasteful practice--but to no avail, mainly because the maid didn't speak English. (The place is run by Poles, and they live in a bubble.) She changed my sheets and pillowcases the night before I left! Their smoking habit is appalling: someone forgot to tell Poles that smoking kills you. I was on the top floor--the 4th-- and it was coming in all the way from the front of the building. The breakfast was fine, but it was the same stuff every day; could they not change it up, as the saying goes? My toilet barely functioned--I'd have to flush it three times to make Mr. Brown go away--but when I mentioned it to the dude in charge he said he'd look into it, "if I have time." Later on I saw him sitting on the front step smoking and yakking on his cell phone. Thanks. I wanted to stay in Dublin for a week--this was six days--and had to pay up front, so I couldn't try and find a better place. I would say to anyone going to Dublin: try to find something better than this! Just across the road is a B & B called the Townhouse; I wish I'd found it first.
They had double booked so my twin room reservation became a double and me and my male companion were only friends! The shower broke straight away but it was fixed pretty fast
This is singularly the most unpleasant experience in a hotel or b&b that we have ever had. We booked and paid 70 euros for one night in a double room. We arrived around 8pm and were greeted chillingly by an apparently busy man, who dismissively demanded that we pay immediately, before seeing the room. After we had given our passport numbers and the cash, we were told where our room was located, and good night. The room itself was a minuscule, dirty single room with a large single bed taking up most of the space. The bed was not made, the sheets just thrown on the mattress. The room was stuffy and the litter from the previous guests hadn't been picked up. The two mugs provided for tea had not even been rinsed out properly. There were no towels, the shower was broken. There was no soap, nor was there wifi, which was included in the facilities listed in the hotel description. Of course when we left the hotel an hour later for dinner, there was no one at reception to hear our complaints, since the hotel was fully booked and all the rooms were probably in the same state. We were too tired from our journey to look for anything else. After a terrible night's sleep in unacceptable conditions - the youth hostels I have been in provide better supplies and comfort for 10 euros a night - we were faced with the most dismal and disturbing 8 euro pre-paid breakfast I have ever lived. Three slices of suspicious-looking meat were laid on a plate near a packet of discount white sliced bread to toast with butter. Instant coffee and milk were the only beverages. Given the price that we were paying, the people who run this sour excuse for a bed & breakfast are clearly making an exorbitant margin, and we strongly recommend that you do not book a room at Durban Residence.
Cheap Quiet Staff friendly Central
No chair in the room
It was just what we expected for the price we paid. The room was clean and staff was fantastic.
The cleaning service wasn't much of a cleaning service. The only thing I think they did was straiten the bed covers. Dirty cups were never replaced and after 3 days they stopped giving us towels.
Good breakfast, very clean linens, excellent location.
TVs don't work, lumpy beds, lots of street noise(thin, leaky windows), workers smoke in their office room even though signs in foyer state it's illegal to smoke in the building(smoke smell spreads throughout building-yuck)
Excellent service from host
3 flights of stairs and very shabby
Clean linens, good free breakfast, excellent location.
Lumpy beds, manager in the office smokes with the window wide open. Signs in the hotel itself say it's against the law to smoke in the hotel. If you get the cheapest single room, you get a shower and a sink. Toilet is in a junky store room down half a flight of stairs. TVs don't work. I asked the manager about the TV and he said, "They don't work."
location was good to city centre and near transport and restaurants etc
The double bed was very very small just like a cheers single bed. The breakfast selection was very poor. I would not stay there again or recommend it.
very clean bedding, room
noise in front rooms, poor breakfast facilities
Value for money, location (5 mins walk from the bus station). Comfortable beds. Simple, decent breakfast.
Very thin pillows, noisy, shower doors were broken, tap was leaking.
Amiable and helpful personnel run the place effectively. Lovely folks work there.
mattress had springs that poked you while you lay in bed
location and value for money paid
Location is really good. 5 min to Connely street and close to all popular places. Regular bb hotel, nothing more. The one we liked that bathroom is your own and located in your room. Rooms are small but perfect for people who came to travel a lot and coming back to hotel only for sleep and shower. Also you can have tea and coffee in your room, there were tea pot, cups and some milk, coffee and tea. Quite coz we have stayed in upper floor. But windows go exactly to the road.
The shower gel and soap have been finished in first day and noone refilled it anymore. If you travel in summer room is ok, but in autumn and winter it will be really cold inside because its old buildind and too windy inside.
Walking distance to O'Connell Street.
Wi-Fi on the top floor wasn't so good. There wasn't a remote for the telly.
The Continental breakfast was top class. Two doors away there is a much better Guest House... We checked it out.
Filthy WC across the corridor. Hardly any toilet paper. Broken and missing marble floor tiles entering horrendous laundry room/old dirty mattress room/WC. I would never return nor recommend to friends. There are plenty of Guest Houses in the area. Durban is run down, neglected and sorry.
Don't stay here if you want to sleep! EXTREMELY noisy.
The room was expensive(99 euro) for what it was. It was at the very top of the house which wasn't ideal .It was very small and shabby and the bed was very small ,the bathroom was very shabby looking .Could not turn the heating off which meant the window had to left open all night resulting in my husband being awoken around 4 in the morning by traffic. The breakfast wasn't great either
Location and dealing with the member of staff that was on duty when we checked in who was friendly and helpful.
Window did not lock in the room. We had to plug out TV as wire exposed also broken. Had to go in to a messy laundry room/storage area to use toilet as there was none in room. No hot water in shower also dirty. Sticker and gum stuck on bed, smoke burns on furniture with bad smell of smoke. The man that we had to deal with on check out was unpleasant and unfriendly.
I was happy with location of this B&B
I did not like the room it was two single beds pushed together, no remote for tv, lock on door would not work had to call someone everytime, poor breakfast had to ask for orange juice got diluted orange no cutlery had to wait for someone to come in order for me to get some (10mins). good do with a good clean, toilet seat was broken.
