This is a small family-run country house on the edge of Lough Swilly, embedded in 18 acres of mature trees and lawns leading to the 2 km long beach.
Fort Royal is renowned for peace and quiet in comfortable surroundings with good food and wine. Within the grounds are a 9-hole pitch and putt course, hard tennis court, walled kitchen garden and arboretum. The country house is a 10-minute walk from the village of Rathmullan.
With a great selection of links golf courses within one hour’s drive, including Portsalon, Rosapenna, Ballyliffen, and Dunfanaghy, Fort Royal is a place to come and relax in tranquil surroundings. You can walk the beach, and then sit with a good book by the fire or on the terrace looking down to the sea.
The hotel serves snacks in the bar at lunchtime from 12:30 to 14:00 and table d'hôte dinner is served in the dining room from 19:30 to 20:45. Advance reservations bt 12:00 hrs on the day.
The surrounding area and countryside outside the hotel is renowned for its beauty. There are many breathtaking walks and drives which the hotel will gladly recommend. Glenveigh National Castle and Gardens are a 40-minute drive from the hotel and Letterkenny, a 30-minute drive away, has all you need for shopping.
