The location was good
The pipes on the balcony were so loud rumbling all night and the decor isn't nice at all no tea or coffee facilities bar the broken kettle
Great location, value for money
Location and old world ambience of bar and rooms
Rooms a bit small
Its central most places
No running water at times
Room was tiny and the floor was soaking wet when we were given our room. no one cared about the room, only the pub. don't stay there
For visitors planning to stay here, it is important to know that this is a pub with guest rooms above the bar. You pick up and drop off your key with the bartender. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. I had to leave the hotel early each day, and the night staff would make coffee for me and give me bread and jam before well before breakfast was served for the guests.
Wi-Fi not available in the guest rooms, only in the public spaces (i.e. the bar.) The bar is quite popular, and in the evenings it was packed and loud, so it is not a good place to do work that requires internet access.
Location was great; staff was wonderful--very friendly and helpful. Loved being above a pub so we could relax and have a drink at the end of the evening.
the twin bed in the room sagged in the middle and so I didn't sleep as well as I normally would. The bed could use a new mattress or better support.
V good location
Carpet was wet . Room had bad smell in it.
Great location and super friendly staff.
Overpriced, noisy room when music is on. On the first night we could here the music in our room on the third floor as if we were sitting in the pub.
I picked because of the location at the heart of Galway city and the price, which are both very good.
They gave us a double bed instead of twin we booked!! Told they were booked out so nothing they could do, but we received discount. No one at reception when we arrived so it was the barman dealing with us, who wasn't particularly helpful
I always look forward to arriving in Galway City, walking the streets, meeting characters, frequenting local bars and restaurants. However, I liked the fact that I only stayed one night in Garveys!
Garveys is meant to be a hotel, yet the hotel door was locked and I had to walk through the entire bar to find reception. As soon as I checked in I was told that breakfast was extra, this is not evident on any booking form. The website said the hotel was recently refurbished, completely untrue. Old uncomfortable beds, very small, smelly, noisy rooms and corridors. Loud drunken people at night and loud early morning traffic and tanoy from train station. No breakfast and nobody to tell me why. Complaints fell on deaf ears, seems to lack management. Very much a rip off.
Location is fantastic, rooms lovely and clean. Would stay again.
The music from the band was pretty loud till 1am or there abouts. A didn't really bother us because we were out late enough anyway
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was sufficient. Bar and food were great. Live music 10-12.
convenient location, next to station and Eyre Square, great for access to Galway facilities
dated, no public area except bar, breakfast not included, some noise at night
Not good value for money. The hotel needs full renovation. Everything really old, smelly corridors and noisy rooms.
Uncomfortable room, small and rundown, lot of noise from the pub.
Being close to the station
The hotel is a pub really and not like a hotel - yet they charge high prices as if they were a four star hotel. When you leave you leave your keys at the crowded bar rather than a reception! Also being close to the station you get woken up early by bus station announcements. Either you are a hotel or a pub b@b but you can't pretend to be a nice hotel when you are not and charge high prices when you don't provide a hotel type service
Location, location, location. Comfortable bed.
Bathroom fittings in poor condition. Breakfast extra, poor selection. Very pricey for what was on offer
decor could do with up dating
The bar man was so nice and helpful
Some of the staff should work else where I wrote to them and have got no reply
We liked the location as it was very close to walk to downtown. We were pleasantly surprised that the rooms were nice and clean.
Very loud at night! Could hear the music from the bar and people on the street yelling all night long. Since there was no air conditioning, we really wanted to have our window open, but couldn't. Even closing the window didn't help. The only thing that helped was my earplugs - thanks goodness!
We had no worries during our stay at Garveys Inn. Location was perfect! The bartenders and front desk staff were awesome! We had been traveling through Ireland for two weeks and had to adjust our dates prior to arriving. Garvey's staff and booking.com were quick to reply & very easy to work with. I would recommend to others who like a nice easy going atmosphere.
The only negative during our stay were the thin walls and door that connected us to the next room. You could hear everything going on next door but it's Ireland so you're not going to be in your room much.
