location - tough to get to, but worth the trip

How quirky the hote really is. The hotel is in a past era, with log fires, great food, good company and make such a pleasant change from the modern chain hotels..

It does need renovation on the building itself.

Arriving at Glencar House Hotel, the staff, Liam and Ailish, instantly gave us a very warm welcome. After an excellent dinner, we settled at the warming fire with beer and snacks and enjoyed a nice conversation with our hosts. A good nights sleep in our spacious twin room prepared us for the walking tours we planned -some with help of the staff. All in all, we had a fantastic time, and will most certainly recommend this hotel to all our friends. We will come back to enjoy the glorious countryside and the nice company.

I have only good things to say about the Glencar House, this place ticks all of the important boxes; spacious clean comfortable room, comfy bed and good water pressure in the shower, food was great and served fresh from the kitchen...and now for the bonus points; superb conservatory with views of the mountain range and countryside, open 'roaring' fire in the cozy bar and by far the best pint of Guinness I have ever had the leasure of tasting. All presented by the most friendly hosts you could hope to meet...I stay in hotels all year round, its just a shame others dont make you feel as welcome (had to leave early in the morning so didnt get a chance to sample the breakfast, however, without any prompting from me, there was a packed lunch waiting for me in the morning for my walk that day...how nice is that :-) )

Lovely old style hotel with lots of character and comfort. Very helpful and friendly staff. We had dinner at the hotel two nights and the meals were absolutely excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

It was a marvellous stay. We enjoyed the athmosphere and the hospitality. We would recommend this hotel to everone who is hiking the Kerry Way

House needs refurbishment. Very hard to find this hotel if you are not local. Booking.com has to update its site with better directions.

Warm welcome combined with high standard of accomodation and cuisine made our stay a very memorable experience and one we will recommend to others..we look forward to regular return visits to explore the many and varied opportunities this location offers...as well the complete 'get away ' factor..!

The hotel was in a beautiful location with large grounds. The owners Eilis and Liam made me feel very welcome and at home. As well as B&B, I also eat dinner in the hotel and this was excellent. The hotel has several lounges which are great for relaxation when the weather is wet. It was very good value for money and would suit people looking for a relaxing break, but also hikers on the Kerry Way and walkers in the Macgillicuddy Reeks nearby.

It was so relaxing and the staff and management were really helpfully and friendly Food very good beautiful Log fire very homely. Look forward to going back there again.

Our stay at Glencar House was incredibly perfect. The location was stunning, the food delicious - breakfast and dinner, our room had a sensational view and our hosts could not have been better. We really were looked after in every possible way and did not want to leave, we would recommend it to everyone.

Nothing it really was perfect

This was my second visit to Glencar House. I have looked forward to returning all year and was not disappointed. The proprietors, Eilis and Liam were born to run a hotel. Glencar is a warm, friendly home from home in a beautiful location. If you like to walk, fish, climb the odd mountain or even just chill then this is the place for you. It is also amazing value for money. A visit is highly recommend and I will be returning.

i did not stay long enough

A fabulous location with wonderful hosts; nothing beats returning to the cozy bar & fireplace after a day hiking or fishing, and then being called to a fabulous dinner. The flavour of a bygone era, coupled with modern amenities - highly recommended. Thanks Liam!

Hotel is so homely and it was lovely to be welcomed back each evening by Liam and Eilis and to meet and chat with other holidaymakers around the fire. Our every need was attended to.

The reason we chose Glencar House Hotel was because of it's proximity to Carrauntoohil, which we planned to climb. The hotel website was very user friendly and booking straight forward. After a long drive (6 hours) we arrived around 10pm, and despite the late hour we were made to feel very welcome. Over the next three days we were delighted with the level of service and hospitality shown by the hosts and thier staff. Nothing was too much trouble for Liam and Ealis; they made us feel like part of the family. The food and accommodation was excellent and the location in the Kerry mountains was nothing short of magical! Everyone in our group, young and not so young, loved the whole experience and cannot wait to return to Glencar House.

The staff at the Glencar House Hotel were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were late arriving and they had held our rooms and gave us an extra room/bathroom for the same price because they didn't have the exact configuration that we had booked over the internet. My youngest son developed a love of scones on this trip and even though they weren't on the menu or buffet, they rustled one up for him and it was served to him directly by the kitchen staff.
