The good & friendly Staff, are this hotels only Highlights. Beds are bad quality,no proper filling in matresses, especially the single bed in room 125. Should be firm, horrible for your back. No sugar bowls in the dining room , instead cheap sugar paper sachets Furniture is also bad quality.Clearly, financial shortcuts were made. Extravagant dull outside to Hotel,, someone had bad taste,in Architecture. Good staff is this Hotels saving grace.

It was an ideal location to stay for me as the rose of tralee regionals were held there! I was quite unsatisfied with the parking situation. I had paid 5 euro to park my car but when I went to collect my car the following afternoon at 1pm I had to pay an addtional 9 euro. This is outrageous! Parking should be included in the price of the room. I was not impressed that I had to pay 14 euro in total to park my car for one night.

Friendly helpful staff at reception and in the bar and restaurant. Very comfortable, spacious room with all requirements available. Just one slight criticism, my wife is a coeliac and requires a gluten- free diet. Her gluten-free bread at breakfast time was toasted in the regular toaster where non gluten-free bread was toasted so there was a very strong risk of contamination. This needs to be corrected in future, particularly as the hotel is used by The Irish Coeliac Society for meetings and therefore has many coeliacs attending and satying.

A central hotel, with great value for a bit of luxury. This was a double room. However, there was only one bath towel and one hand towel. Luckily I was staying solo this time. If my wife had been with me we would have had to get on to the reception desk. This is a relatively small basic detail but that should not occur at a hotel of this standard.

I loved the location of this hotel, it was just off the top of the main street in Portlaoise. The Spa was lovely also, staff were friendly and the treatments were fab. The bar staff Austin and Jason I feel should get a very special mention, thanks guys for a great laugh, it was a brilliant night, you guys are professional and very pleasant, thank you again.

The hotel has a lovely atmospher and the staff are great. There was a mix up with our room which they solver efficently and with no problems at all. The only problem is that you have to pay ridiculous prices foe the car park. All hotels in this day and age should have their own parking spaces for their cusyomers

If your looking for a late drink then this is a good place to stay. We were at a wedding and the residents bar was going till about 6am. The staff were very friendly. There were good facilities in the hotel - gym, sauna, pool etc but I never actually got around to using them, but they were good by all accounts. I don't think Portloaise is a great location but we were purely there for the wedding. It was a bit pricey but again that's always going to be the case when a big wedding is in the hotel.

Very friendly staff, efficient and helpful. Child friendly. The fact that we had to pay for parking our car overnight even though we had paid a €5 parking charge at time of booking our room.

I liked its location in centre of town as myself and my 14 year old daughter were visiting Port Laois for the Leinster Fleadh. This isn't a complaint as such but we were disappointed on arrival that we were not able to get a twin room. On arrival we were told that we could change to a twin next day. I declined that and we were told that we could get a camp bed for sunday night. It failed to be delivered and I had to ask again on sunday night. Also at breakfast it was necessary to pick up several plates before we could find a properly clean one. Its not good to see dried up food stuck to plates because the dish washer is not emptied and cleaned often enough. Whilst waiting for bread to toast I noticed that the floor area around kitchen entrance was really grubby and filthy. Very poor cleaning. In evidence. Kitchen doors looked greasy and overdue for a clean. Also staff at breakfast did not approach guests to find out their preferences for tea or coffee but one had to catch their attention and ask! This would not happen in other 4 star establishments. My final observation relates to the room attendants coming into our occupied room at 9 am approx on our last morning. I heard no knock or voice and was standing in my underwear as the two attendants backed out of the room. Surely they are given a list of rooms that are still occupied ?

Room Size was good, Reception Staff helpful, if a bit parrot fashion. We had issues that were taken on board by the Manager We did fill out comments card and spoke to Manager. Hotel was too hot & stuffy due to heating systen still being active, does not make sense as it was June....Shower in room difficult to regulate, plus an elderly or weaker person would have difficulty turning shower on and off. Hair Dryer terrible (Cheap & nasty). Self service breakfast, not nice, again cheap ingrediants (Bread, sausages (aldi susages are better quality), plus hot food was cold, Only one toaster, which was inefficent this would lead to queues at the toaster, plus no plates to put toast on...Our comments were taken on board by Manager, but it would make me think twice about staying again.....

The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed during the Easter break, easter eggs for the children a lovely touch. Also Easter colouring competition a good idea. The hotel is close to shops, bars and restaurants. Enjoyed ourselves so much, we extended our stay by another night. We will stay here again. We had booked on room only basis but went for breakfast one morning, it was a bit expensive.

We had a nice carvey meal in hotel. There seems to be a problem with the heat in this hotel, reading other reviews other people had the same problem as us. Room too hot or no heat at all, we had no heat for a day and a half. Service in the coffee shop very poor, and some of the reception staff are very unfriendly.

“The hotel is very clean and modern-the staff cannot do enough for you and the the food in the Stir Restaurant was first class.I have to make a special mention for Trevor the chef, my daughter has a strict diet that she has to follow and Trevor went out of his way to cook her evening meal which she said was the best meal that she had eaten on our 8 day tour around Ireland, he also cooked her a breakfast observing the needs of her diet.We stayed in 7 hotels around Ireland and when booking all of them I requested certain ingredients to conform with my daughters diet and this was the only hotel to confirm my booking request when we arrived and had stocked the items that I had requested.” Garth, Birmingham |
