We found the staff to be lovely, most helpful and made you feel very at ease. The hotel was very close to shops, Killkenny Castle and good pubs and entertainment. Although we did not have time to use the swimmimng pool and gym it looked to be in good condition and luxurious. The room had most of what you needed: iron and board, TV, trouser press, kettle with tea coffee and toiletries provided. There was a fridge but it was neither stocked or on but this did not bother us. Bed linen was clean and comfortable. Room was a good size. All of the above positives where unfortunately negated somewhat by the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. I had read about this before I went and had brought a small fan with me that did little to help because the rooms where so stiffling. Every window in the hotel was opened because of this including the ones in the hall and it meant that every sound could be heard on the street outside. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday when the pubs shut at 11.30 so there was little street noise at night but the deliveries from 04.30 on meant an early wake up and broken sleep. It would put me off goin back esp. if I had children with me. I could see it becoming a serious annoyance if I had been staying longer and therefore lost more sleep. The weekends must be very raucous. There was a store full of fans too on our floor; don't know why the hotel don't at least put a fan in every room?

This was not a deluxe room! The beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom was on the shabby side. There was no minibar as advertised. On the second day, the complimentary shampoos etc were not replaced. Would not return to this hotel.

The hotel was in a great location. Staff were pleasant . Hotel needs some upgrading as does the leisure centre and the equipment . The decor was a bit tired , beds uncomfortable. Have stayed in superior quality hotels for less.

Ormonde Hotel is in an excellent location. We love the castle and the walks nearby. It's nice to go for a drink in the evenings without having to get a taxi. The staff were very good on the reception and we love to come back on a two day offer in October/November. The parking is very convenient.

Lovely hotel in a great, central location. Bedroom quite warm, could do with air-conditioning. Also, quite a lot of noise from street below.

Hotel really central and runs seamlessly. Lovely spa area and smashing breakfast. Really nice hotel, however it was very expensive for what we had. We booked a 'deluxe' room and frankly it was very ordinary. If it was less expensive it would have been excellent but 169 euros for one night BB is way too much to pay, even in July

The breakfast was very good and of a high quality. The room was extremely warm and we could not turn the heating off. It was also above the delivery bays and noise levels where extremely high from 6:00am in the morning as we had to leave the window open. The bed was far too hard as was the pillows and we had two very restless nights!

Car parking only in public car park across the road. Not good when staying overnight and it means that car has to be emptied when leaving unattended. Also the hotel price was expensive enough without having to pay an extra 5 euro for the car park

Location excellent.........room nice but to describe it as superior is pushing it a little.................normal room I would call it....staff friendly and helpful...pool very nice...........breaky good but very busy.....maybe need second area to serve in, when they know numbers they have, and let you know night before that you are to go to room 1 or room 2.....sounds simple.... To me Car parking and fees....a problem....need more staff in bar at night....

Everything was really great, from the staff to the bar food. Our room was really comfortable and clean. I have already recommended this hotel to friends. The only thing that spoilt our room was that the shower rose was missing, the temp of the water and everything else was fine, but instead of having a spray shower it was like standing under a dripping tap.

The location was excellent for the city of kilkenny, the front of house staff especially anne, were friendly and helpfull. Good value for money. A little bit noisy on the saturday night due to a stag or hen do, however this is not a criticism of the hotel and young people are entitled to enjoy themselves

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, the room was extremely comfortable and clean and the decor excellent. The staff were exceptionally courteous and efficient and so nice and friendly and to be commended on their excellent service to customers. It was great to be so local to shops and bars and Kilkenny Castle and only a 10 minute walk from the train. I would highly recommend this hotel. The only downfall to the hotel was the bar and coffee bar near reception, they never appeared actively open, it was difficult to get a drink as staff were not readily available particularly at the coffee bar where only one person was serving and it took me at least 20 minutes to get a coffee - please note this is no reflection on the coffee bar staff as they were very busy and were also very pleasant to deal with, just I think they needed more help. I would like you to note this as constructive critizism as overall the hotel was great.

excellent location. staff very friendly and helpful. great spa and gym attached. the fact there was no residents bar was a let down as we dont stay late in city bars but love the option of relaxing over a drink in our hotel. it was disappointing to only have the option of a drink in our room after 11.30pm.

I found the hotel location the best thing about it right in the centre of Kilkenny. I found my hotel room to be in need of some maintenance, ie some paint work and the bathroom was not very clean especially grouting. Unfortunately there was a wedding when I was there and the hotel was full and therefore very noisy.

Excellent location, friendly and efficient staff. Not the fault of the hotel - however we had a restless night due to other guests (drunken behaviour, shouting in the corridors, banging doors, etc). To the hotel's credit, they sent someone straight up at 3am when called.

The pool and spa are great. It's a 10 minute walk from the train station and really close to the shopping streets and Kilkenny castle. The beds and pillows were quite hard and not very comfortable. Bar service was a bit slow, only one bar man working. Price was a bit steep for an average hotel.

Great central location, that's where it ends.Didn't find rooms stuffy as suggested in other reviews. Night staff would benefit from doing a hospitality course, breakfast service terrible, food quality just okay, no late checkout on Sunday yet was told that there is early check-in!!?? Street noise very loud from first floor. Single, std double and deluxe double/twin are all the same room type in our groups experience. Parking fee should be absorbed in room charge, room rates don't match quality/value in other parts of Ireland

Good location. Breakfast isn't the best (buffet sytle) and the car park closed at midnight which meant we had to find alternative parking. The hotel did pay for this though as we were told it the car park would be open until 2am.

Good location for shopping and Kilkenny castle. Nice staff. Small windows with a poor view that overlooked a side street. The room was stuffy so we kept windows open and had to listen to noisy garbage trucks each morning. Expensive room service for a breakfast that was reheated and not good.

Kilkenny is small, and the hotel is central. Very expensive for what you get. The VAT rate in ireland for hotels was reduced on July 1st. The hotel did not pass on the reduction (they have a well worded excuse as to why they didn't). The bathroom door did not close properly (room 238), the finish in the bathroom was not acceptable for the money (200 for a night). The breakfast ticked the boxes, but was of poor quality, rashers like cardboard (cooked too long, over heated) etc. etc. Accommodation prices need to come down, this is rated as a 4star in Kilkenny, while you can get something like a 5star in Dublin for less money. It wouldn't be bad if the food was good and the rooms maintained properly. I guess too many hen and stag parties staying there. Only there as the others in the group had suggested it. I had stayed there years ago when it was cheaper and worth the 4stars. Its really 3star at best.
