Score from 271 reviews Good
A charming, family-run guesthouse in a quiet area, with tea/coffee available in the lounge and a popular breakfast menu. Close to central Galway, beach, bars, promenade and restaurants.
Score from 70 reviews Excellent
The captains room was exquisitely furnished and having a working fireplace in the room added to the luxury. It was very convenient for walking into town, with the Roisin dubh 10 mins away
What a charming and comfortable home & Moira the owner is a wonderful and very helpful person. Comfortable bed, very nice room, great breakfast and very accommodating owner.
Warm hospitality with guests' every wish & dietry needs etc catered for. A beautiful old house with very tasteful decor & antique furniture in an ideal location for Galway city activities. Will definitely be returning, thanks Maura & Jack.
The room was very cold on arrival, would have been nice to have had the fire lit in advance. The fire was lit at our request & room heated up & then everything was fabulous.
First and foremost, meeting Maire, the owner. She provided such a warm welcome to our family that made this the most pleasant, enjoyable place we stayed on our trip that included a number of other B&B's. In addition: beautiful home, great food, great location. We can't wait to go back and stay longer!
Nile lodge was one of the major highlights of our trip. The accomodation was absolutely beautiful and our host was glorious. Couldnt do enough for usand was very warm and welcoming. Would have loved to spend more time there.
Warm and friendly atmosphere Helpful and kind hostess Beautiful room Beautiful house Excellent breakfast
Lack of Tv in room Wifi not accessible in bedroom
Nile Lodge is an unusual historical property which is crammed full of antiques (so crammed in our room there was no where to sit apart from the bed). It is within walking distance of Galway sights. The breakfast was very nice, freshly cooked, freshly squeezed orange juice.
Although the owner, Maire was very friendly and hospitable, I felt she was out of her depth running a B and B (she admitted that she usually rents out the whole house as self catering but as she had no one in for this, she was opening it up to B and B customers). She seemed to be coping single handed ( she said her daughter was asleep downstairs when she was supposed to be helping out with the breakfast and she didn't want to wake her up!) and not doing this very well. Breakfast took an hour and a half so don't have anything planned for the morning. There was no menu for breakfast which was an issue for me being a vegetarian as I didn't know what to expect. It stated on Booking.com that there were tea and coffee making facilities which there weren't, not so good when we arrived after a long 5 hour drive, Maire didn't offer anything, she was preparing to go out with friends. There were also no toiletries as stated, not even soap in the shower room. For those of you who like to watch television, there isn't one in the bedroom. The promised wi fi is there but only in the front room as "the walls are too thick" for the signal to get through. I don't want to sound negative as overall the experience was OK, its just that if you are charging a lot of money (over 300 euros for 2 nights), the basics should be there. Overhyped and overpriced. One other thing, the breakfast tables are not as seen on Booking.com, i.e separate, but rather, you eat together on one big table, OK if you are sociable and we did meet some lovely people
