Old Darnley Lodge Hotel  

Staff were very friendly and food was wonderful. Very good value. Nicely decorated in keeping with old style decor.

Bathrooms had a platform which could be very dangerous. Hotel didn't have a record of our booking from booking.com, however one of the party had rung in advance and hotel then reserved the rooms for us.

The staff were excellent and so friendly the room was very comfortable and cosy . I only has snacks and full irish breakfast which were delicious and service was great very pleasant waiter/waitress.

Unfortunately my sleep was disturbed with late night revellers but I got discount from a very pleasant lady at reception which more than adequately made up for the disturbance.

Central location

WiFi not working in room 28. Was necessary to sit in Reception to access net. Not a big deal.....more an annoyance

The staff, the comfort and atmosphere was very nice. I have stayed there a couple of times and might do it again in the future all being well.

Building has character; old and interesting town in an area of many interesting sites. Friendly, helpful staff.

Stairs to rooms are long and steep

The warm and personal welcome which contnued through out our stay. The hotel was well maintained with attention to the small details which make the difference.

The staff were first class made us feel very welcome from the moment we entered the hotel until we left, from reception to bar staff and restaurant staff excellent everyone of them. The room was excellent value for money and very clean, there was a great atmosphere in the hotel especially in the evening when the log fire was lit, will definately recomend this hotel and will visit again without hesitation

The friendliness of the staff. Breakfast was available until 11:30am so you got a longer sleep. They didn't rush you out, even though check-out was at 12 noon. The buses stop right outside the hotel so you get straight to the door when taking public transportation. It is centrally located in the town.

They didn't have an elevator so would be difficult for elderly and people in wheelchairs.

It was comfortable, clean, very welcoming but most of all the food was excellent both the breakfast and evening meal we had and the staff were amazing so friendly, very accommodating and nothing was any bother and the service was brilliant. A hotel we will certainly go back to in the future.

Excellent value for money and spotlessly clean. It had fabulous bar food and the breakfast was top class.

Comfortable rooms, great restaurant & pub

The only unpleasant part was that we faced the street and the spotlights were shining into our room until the early AM hours.

No one there to assist taking baggage to room. Room decor extremely out-dated, marks on ceiling. in public convenience area, ladies toilets-one out of order and one had a badly broken toilet seat.

It is situated in the town, convenient, staff very friendly and helpful.

Decor in bedroom needs updating. No bottled water in room as was when i visited 3 years ago. i know recession has hit hard, but little personal touches matter.

Breakfast and evening meal was excellent. Hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was very compfortable, plenty of space to move about.

I have stayed at the Old Darnley before and hope I might do so again in the future. The location was good for my purposes and I knew that I would be well looked after there. I must praise the front desk staff, they were very helpful and obliging when I needed help. The location, cost and service were all great in my estimation. The lovely Irish breakfast was excellent and gave me a good filling to go on most of the day, Good food! My thanks and highest recommendation for this hotel.

Die Zimmer sind sehr schön eingerichtet und sauber. Die Damen an der Rezeption waren immer sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und halfen mir, wie ich z. B. nach Trim komme oder nach Drogheda. Meine Empfehlungen: In Athboy unbedingt hill of ward ansehen, ein wunderbarer Ort. Ich war in Halloween dort und das war ein Erlebnis. An Halloween treffen sich viele Leute am Park und gehen gemeinsam zum hill of ward. Dort wird dann über Halloween bzw. über Samhain erzählt und über Tlachtga, einer Druiden, die dort begraben sein soll und so weiter. Im Internet findet man nähere Informationen über hill of ward (auch genannt hill of tara), über Tlachtga und so weiter. In Trim das Schloss anschauen bzw. eine alte Klosterruine. Einfach den Fluss entlangwandern, dann sieht man schon die Ruine, schöner Spaziergang. Ich bin mit dem Bus bis nach Trim gefahren. Der Bus hält gegenüber dem Hotel vor dem Lidl. Es gibt keinen Hinweis, dass das eine Bushaltestelle ist. Die Rezeption ist sehr freundlich, fragen sie nach den Busfahrzeiten. Bus 111 müsste es sein. Fahrzeit etwa halbe Stunde oder 45 Minuten nach meinem Zeitgefühl. Von Trim bin ich nach Drogheda gefahren, weil sich dort in der Nähe Newgrange befindet. Es ist eine lange Busfahrt, über eine Stunde. Von Drogheda bin ich mit dem Taxi zum Besucherzentrum gefahren. Die Taxifahrt hat so 12 Euro gekostet. Leider konnte ich Newgrange nicht sehen, da mir gesagt wurde, dass es keine Touren gibt, also die vorige war die letzte. Am besten vorher sich anmelden! Damit sich die Fahrt dennoch gelohnt hat, war ich im dortigen Museum, interessant! Es gibt Filmaufführungen, auch in Deutsch. Wer kein Auto hat wie ich, man kann schon die diversen Orte mit den Bussen erreichen, aber es dauert viel länger und es ist meiner Meinung nach teurer. Aber das war es mir wert. Mit dem Auto geht es natürlich besser. Bitte vorsichtig fahren! In Irland gibt es viel zu sehen, Powerscourtwasserfälle (unbedingt anschauen!!!!), unf vieles, vieles mehr!
