Portarra Lodge is superb in every way. It is perfectly located for trips to the Aran Islands as well as the inviting city of Galway. Michael and Joyce are wonderful hosts, taking care of your every need, preparing wonderful breakfasts, and helping with every travel need -- even getting advance booking and tickets for the Aran Island ferry. We'd definitely come back and encourage others to visit Portarra.

Owner and staff helpful and friendly. View from bedroom spectacular. Perfect if your a fisherman

No good if you have no transport. Said on Booking.com 7 miles from Galway local bus runs by. Totally different in reality. Bus runs from local village 3 miles away, hourly.

Location, set on beautiful lake. Quiet, tranquil. Introductions provided to other guests as opportunities arose, facilitated meeting people from other countries.

Fairly spartan facilities. Needs more "softer" comforts to make it, as other than a fishing lodge. Plumbing issues on arrival, not a good introduction. Stayed in 8 B&Bs all together so easy comparisons made.

Fabulous!!! Michael and Joyce were very warm and gracious hosts and the setting and accommodation was wonderful. Breakfast was so tasty - couldn't say enough good things about the Portarra.

It's about 15 minutes drive to Moycullen village so that's a bit of a drawback if you want to go for a pint.

staff were lovely, breakfasts were very tasty and plenty of food. Michael dropped us to a wedding because we could not get a taxi, he was very sound. The location is lovely, very quiet and beautiful scenery.

we did not realise we were so far out of the village of Moycullen and it was impossible to get taxi's home after a night out. If you are not going out, or are driving, then it would be an ideal location, especially if you are there for the fishing.

Joyce and Michael were wonderful hosts, very informative and attentive. The room was comfortable and very clean, with a view out over the garden and lake. it was chilly when we were there and a pleasant fire was always burning in the fireplace. Michael and Joyce keep a lot of animals (outdoors), including horses, canaries, finches, quail, and chickens.

Really the only downside - which would be an upside for someone else - was the distance from town. It's about a ten-minute drive.

Michael and Joyce are friendly hosts who spare no effort to look after their guests. The breakfasts are first-class. The location is peaceful and idyllic.

Like most people we are accustomed to in-room tea and coffee making facilities, but this is a minor detail.

Michael & Joyce were terrific hosts? Lovely breakfasts. A very pleasant stay. Loved the local fish pie, recommended by Michael. Tricky to find but well worth the effort.

    Nothing to dislike.
