the nightclub was excellent and part of the hotel which was great especially when it was so cold out. tThe breakfast was minimal at best full irish it was not but it was tasty. We asked for extra toast and never got it and we were not the only ones. Others asked for extra toast and nothing came.

What did I like about Royal Hotel Arklow. Frankly - nothing. On arrival didn't know where to check in as there was no sign to locate the reception. Turned out you check in at the bar! Indifferent barman gave us the key! Found the small functional room and discovered the bed unmade 3.40 pm , despite check in is from 2. I made it known the room wasn't ready and had to wait for it to be cleaned, wasn't offered any complimentary drink or anything to make up for the disruption. Bar and hotel were nice enough. Went to bed only to discover the sound of the nightclub completely filled the room, might as well have been sitting next to the speakers! Avoid at all costs!! its not a hotel, its a glorified bar with mediocre rooms to stay in.

The reception was not clear and found at the pub bar. The facilites in the room were non exisitent and the tv was 12" at cieling hieght with no control. there was no tea/coffee unit, no hairdryer. The bathroom door could not shut as the carpet had been laid into the door way preventing the door from closing. The night club was noisy ( this had been mentioned in teh discription but it really was noisy until the early hours of the morning. We were then woken up at 3ish by some one hammering on a door trying to get in to a room. It didnt help having paid for the room to find out that the room could have got for 19 euro directly according to the advertising board.

The location of the hotel was central which would have been ideal if I was visiting Arklow for a night out. Firstly, the hotel had no private car park which made me uneasy when I had to leave my car in a public carpark overnight. Had booked a twin room as I was visiting Arklow on business with my work colleague and we were given a double room. We got our room changed once we told bar staff but if a twin room was booked inthe first place, thats the type of room we should have been provided with! We were never told what hours breakfast was on when we arrived and when we went to the bar at 10.05am, we were told that breakfast was over at 10am. We weren't even offered a pot of tea or even a slice of toast even though we had breakfast included with our stay. The girl who dealt with us wasn't friendly.

Very helpfull staff, a great ambience in the bar and a cracking full Irish breakfast. Some great rides in the area (on a motorbike ;) ~) Rooms could do with a deep clean and a splash of paint, to freshen them up.

It is conveniently located in the centre of the town It has no car parking, not even a place to pull in for check in. It has a very busy and vibrant bar/nightclub which appears to be the main attraction for nightlife in the area. If you are there to drink and party and you want a bed to fall into after the fun, then you're probably in the right place but otherwise you should probably look elsewhere.

The Royal Hotel is well situated in the centre of Arklow, it is a basic hotel, and comfortable. At the weekend when you return from your night out you have to pass through the "late" bar area which is heaving with revellers which depending on your constitution you can decide to party or head upstairs to bed, the hotel must be well sound proffed becuase you cannot hear the partying upstair, Will look forward to visiting again.Finbarr & Berni
