The setting of the Castle and the possibility to walk. The Spa was not grand but the Therapists were excellent . Breakfasts and Dinner were good quality. The fact that the room had big dirty stains on the carpet and was not cleaned to ***** standards. No room preparation for the night.

The Staff were the friendliest we have ever encountered in hotel accommodation. The room was fabulous, the food was excellent. We could not fault the place and it was perfect for us to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary! Nothing

What a wonderful Hotel! The staff were just amazing, so kind and friendly. Food was excellent. Lakeside location is stunning as is the building itself. Very tastefully decorated. There was a wedding every night we were there and the noise didn't intrude on us at all, as the dance hall was away from the rooms. Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. Nothing really! Don't stay in 5 star hotels, so all the luxury was a bit overpowering when your not used to it!!

My husband and I stayed in a beautifully furnished garden room that had access to the garden. The bathroom and its facilities were of a very high standard. Walking to the spa we first observed the exquisite sculptures and then we began to search for them everywhere. They are wonderful. The spa and its staff were excellent and I had a very good facial [with Breda]. Throughout the hotel the staff made us feel very welcome, comfortable and relaxed. The castle building, the furnishings and decor, the gardens, the setting are all enchanting. It is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant menu was dull. The cooking was good but the main course choice was not 21st century. For example, the rack of lamb was an excellent piece of meat and beautifully cooked but the vegetables, sauces were limited. The waitress brought us 3 "sauces" as if they were specialities-one was mustard[with a splash of guiness] and another was a tomato ketchup. I regarded them as an insult rather than a speciality! What I value most in a restaurant is getting food cooked or presented with flair and imagination to a standard that I could not attain at home. This did not happen. I admit that I had read the menu on the website and thought it was dull but I had assumed that "specialities" would be on offer and that they would have offered a more adventurous main course selection. For example, a Gordon Ramsey's menu I read included-Roast crown of poussin, black pudding stuffed leg, tomatoe tarte tatin, pinenut and chervil sauce. I suggest you compare that one main meal to anything on your menu and you will see what I mean. I loved the hotel but my husband and I were very disappointed in the unimaginative restaurant menu. Before our meal we were planning to invite friends to join us for a few days later in the year. The menu has made us wary about doing this. I am very sorry because I just loved everything else about the hotel.

Everything was perfect. The castle is a little bit out from donegal town so if you are thinking of going out for dinner or lunch you will have to drive however to be perfectly honest you don't need to go anywhere it was beautiful and the food was delicious Nothing it was pure luxury and well worth the money

The staff were amazing so friendly and efficient. The rooms were beautiful and the setting is fantastic. The Spa was very disapointing especially the thermal suite, we stayed inthe Hudson bay in Athlone recently and the Spa there was fantastic I'm afraid the Spa at Solis was very poor in comparison. Also we found underware belonging to the previous occupant in our room on arrival but didnt want to make a fuss with reception.

My wife and I frequently visited the ruins of Lough Eske Castle and so we were keen to stay in it's recently restored splendour! The staff are fantastic! The Receptionist, Porters, Dinner and Breakfast staff, Spa and Leisure Centre staff - they were all highly efficient courteous and friendly. Top marks! The room was lovely, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The dinner was faultless and the breakfast is superb with a helpful, friendly chef to prepare eggs, pancakes etc. We very much enjoyed the use of the spa and leisure centre and the staff were most welcoming. We enjoyed the grounds and, a must, we visited the grave of Major General White and were delighted to see that the railings etc had been restored. The paintings are terrible! The grounds and the hotel have brilliant bronze sculptures and there are excellent framed photographs but the paintings are truly dreadful cheap prints of "old masters", "family portraits" and some laughably cheap reproductions of Lucien Freud masterpieces. A hotel of this quality really should invest in some good original art! We were sorry that in the morning and afternoon of cold December days the log fires were not lit. It was only after 6 that some (not all) of the fires were lit and you were tempted to sit and read in the spacious and comfortable lounges. There are so many dead trees around, a cheery blaze on arrival on a cold day would be most welcome! Although very luxurious, it is still very pricey in these recessionary times.

While to hotel itself and surroundings was stunning, (Our Garden Suite was out of this world) it was the staff that stood out the most. They all were SO helpful in every way, nothing was a problem, they couldn't do enough for you and you didn't feel uncomfortable asking for anything. The staff really are the best I have expereinced. Every single person we dealt with were all consistently so friendly and helpful. There really and truely isn't one thing. I didn't want to leave.

The location is in the beautiful countryside with trees all around the castle. We were upgraded to the Vice Presidential Suite, one of only four rooms in the original castle. Our suite was beautiful and our stay at the castle was great. We are so happy we got to experience Solis Lough Eske Castle. We had to leave after one night.
