Having stayed there many times, we loved the welcome, the feeling of coming back to a familiar place, and knowing that any problem will be sorted out. There is a lovely serene atmosphere around the hotel lounge area. The staff are very helpful, and friendly. The bedroom was very basic, but clean. We asked for , and got a room near the lift. The food was, as always, really beautiful! I would have no problem, and I am sure if I had mentioned it , the staff would have sorted this , perhaps by moving us to another section of the hotel. My husband has had many hip/knee/ heart/ops and problems. The bathroom had no rails or bars at all in bathroom, around toilet , bath or shower! I really do think this is a major problem and should be considered as a routine requirement for the "over 60's" !

The Talbot has a great location facing the opening estuary of the Slaney river. We were lucky to have a room facing the front and the view was fantastic. There are great shops, restaurants and pubs within a few steps, although the Talbot's own dining was a high standard and good value. The tourist office and the railway station are not far away, and the hotel car park is large and free. The public areas on the ground floor are newly re-modelled and are very impressive in design and finish. The staff were all lovely, and there is some lovely art on the walls. Overall it was a great value stay, particularly as we were able to benefit from the three days, two dinners offer. We might not have sampled the dining room but for this, and we would have missed some lovely dishes. The table d'hote menu is changed every day, and the choices of dish were excellent. Well done chef. The wines were not too expensive either. Minor things really. The room was a little tired, and the towels were a bit thin although very clean. The room was clean too, but even clean doesn't make up for tired decor. One of the two light fittings on the mirror in the bathroom didn't work, and after mentioning it three days running at Reception it turned out the fitting was faulty. The tv was a bit "old hat" and the picture was of people about ten feet tall (or so it looked). Wi fi worked all right though in the room. Although the view was lovely, there was a floodlight on the outside of the hotel which illuminated our room even with the curtains closed, and the window needed to be closed during the night to avoid being woken by the early traffic outside, although some heavier sleepers might not be bothered at all by this.

As we travelled by train we found the location very convenient. Excellent too for shopping. We liked and enjoyed the pool very much. We also found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. The restaurant was fully booked and we had to eat in the bar. This was very busy too and we had to sit near the door. It was very draughty and continuous traffic of people! It wasn't very comfortable.

I've stayed here many times on business and always find the experience very satisfactory. The service is very, very good - it's professional, attentive yet unobtrusive and seems to "just happen". The building is clean, well presented and comfortable - well positioned on the seafront, yet quiet. All in all, a very nice hotel.

Awful. The place was a major disappointment. We stayed one night and immediately transferred to Whites of Wexford which was fabulous. I would not recommend this hotel to other travelers. Tacky interior furnishings. The room was dirty and the bar and restaurant were both mediocre. I would not recommend this hotel.

We liked its location - a stone's throw from the main street, parking free - although we may have gotten the last available space! The price was a steal. The hotel may be in need of redecoration oly in the sense that it hasn't modernised as other hotels have, but it is comfortable. Our room was as hot as hell when we arrived - the heat hit us upon opening the door. We were tired and the thought of trudging down to Reception and explaining and getting another room and moving our baggage was just too much, but a quick look at the room thermostat showed it had been set to 30 degrees Centigrade!! We dialed down to 18 degrees and stood back to see if the air from the overhead fan was still hot; gradually it cooled. We went out, and three hours later arrived back to a cool room. Well done to the Talbot Hotel for having air conditioning available! The bed was comfortable, we slept well, the bathroom was clean, and what else can I say! (The room had a double and a single bed. Ok, so the paint on the doors near our room was peelng slightly, and there were no towels in the bathroom, but we rang down to Reception and five minutes later we had towels. We opted for the room only rate and did not have breakfast there. (Not a negative) The windows had two catches each and one on each was broken. Not a security problem.

Nice friendly staff and atmosphere. Good location. Cleanliness of room poor. Dirty underpants under the bed and beer bottle tops between bed and locker. Only one towel in the bathroom which was old and hard and no toiletries in bathroom. No remote for telly on first night but appeared the following day. View of the back of the hotel not what expected. Bins overflowing on view from dining room.

Rooms are basic but staff are very friendly. No extra touches but all basics covered and room was very clean. Pillows were awful and you didn't even get a bar of soap in the bathroom.

We booked through bookings.com so for €55 we felt we got value for money but if I were paying full price your check in time of 4pm is unrealistic and as we were only staying one night we felt it left little time to enjoy the leisure facilities bar etc instead we had lunch and drinks elsewhere .. Revenue perhaps you might be missing out on ??? Rooms were clean but basic but overall staff are friendly and professional ! Many thanks John and Eithne Flynn Dublin

“I would have absolutely no hesitation staying at the Maldron Hotel again. The place was very clean and the bedrooms were spotless! (even the smoking rooms!) Every member of staff who we spoke to was professional, courteous and extremely obliging. We had an evening meal in the bar which was lovely. As it was the festive season all the hotel was in the spirit of Xmas with plenty of lights outside on all the surrounding trees, and a big Xmas tree in the foyer. All in all, a VERY pleasant stay, and i would definately recommend.” Patsy, Lancs |
