The Temple Gate hotel rests on the site of a nineteenth-century Convent of Mercy with a fascinating and eventful history. Prior to its conversion to a convent, the original house was the property of Charles O'Connell, cousin of Daniel O'Connell. Discreetly situated just off the town centre, a short walk through the warm glow of the Victorian lamps in the cobble-stoned courtyard leads our guests to the heart of the historical and vibrant town of Ennis. With over thirty years experience in the hotel business, John Madden, the proprietor of the hotel, along with Ennis Developers had a vision to develop this historic site to a high quality hotel while retaining the Gothic theme. Today the Temple Gate town house hotel is truly a gem. John together with his son Paul and a highly experienced and professional team focus on the pursuit of excellence in all areas. Food & beverage

The hotel restaurant 'Legends' is an AA Rosette award winning restaurant. This accolade, achieved for 11 consecutive years, is awarded for excellence and is a true endorsement of the quality of our food and service.
Our head chef and his creative team ensure that each meal is an exceptional culinary experience using only the finest of produce from the local area. The relaxed atmosphere with comfortable sophistication lends itself to fine dining or a casual supper.
Our custom designed traditional themed pub is 'Preachers', and has an inviting and friendly atmosphere, which both guests and locals enjoy. Regular traditional Irish music sessions ensure its' continued popularity. An acclaimed bar food menu is served throughout the day.

the staff are very efficient and very friendly. The location of the hotel is a definite bonus.

There is just a query I have when we booked we got dinner and 2 breakfast. We had the set dinner but only one course and 2 drinks which we paid for after the meal. But when we checked out we noticed that we were charged €6 we dont know what we were charged for as we gave €20 for the 2 drinks which were btl of Corona and pint of heinken and told the waiter to keep the change.

i paid for a stay of 2 nighsa dn 1 evening meal ...i already looked at the menu and speciiically asked was this where i eat for the meal..i was told yes..next morning i was charged for al a carte....and the meal i paid for was a set menu...no one had told me this...i was annoyed...there was a bus load of people trying to check out so i paid and the receptionist told me they would be intouch..still

Room is very nice

I had only one meal (breakfast). When I came for breakfast at the starting time of 7am, staff were not ready. No natural daylight in breakfast room. Breakfast was satisfactory but coffee was horrible.

The hotel had been refurbished and was secorated to a high standard. I liked the bathrobes, although they were in the wardrobe and didn't see them till the following morning.

The front of the hotel was in a mess due to the refurbishment.

Location was great. Right next to the heart of the town yet off the road so there was no street noise. Quiet, yet right in the midst of the action. Walking distance to everything.

Stayed during reconstruction work being carried out and despite being told when checking in that work would only start at 9am the drilling started at 8.10am. Despite this I would recommend this hotel with its great facilities.

Our room was ready early. We flew in to Ireland that day and we ready to rest a while

The bar area stopped serving dinner at 7pm that nite. I realize it was New Years Eve and they had entertainment going. The other dining room only offered a NY's pre-set dinner.
