Had a great night for the price, and got an up grade to the front, I did get a big discount so the price was very good, and I love U2. James Christie

Your staff are by far your greatest asset. Very helpful, polite, friendly. Great people. I expected more from the hotel-probably because of the association with Bono! Hotel /room seems very dated, tired, in need of complete re-furb. Dinner in the evening was poor. Salad miserable. Hungry but food not appetising enough to finish.

Excellent first impression when we arrived on the Thursday evening, staff excellent. Gave it 10 out of 10 at first. Hotel room good impression. Possible cleanliness in dining room not up to scratch - not hoovered once while we were there. Not enough hangers in the wardrobe. Both got bitten by bed mites. Day receptionist not helpful when I wanted to book a single room next year. Waiting staff not silver service. Morning waiting staff not used to phasing in courses, brought my boiled egg at the same time as my porridge, so egg was cold and hard when I finally got to it. No soya milk available on third day of our stay. No kettle provided in room despite my request.

We enjoyed our stay very much and only wish we had longer to enjoy the luxury and location. It is Templebar and can be noisey into the early hours of the morning.

It was in a central location and the staff were the hotels saving grace, I booked a superior twin room to share with my daughter in law as a special treat, given she and my son are avid 'Bono and u 2' fans. However, although I paid superior prices our room was a huge disappointment and far from anyway superior. We also had to put up with no view and parties being held in a basement open ended facility that went on to 3.00am. Our towels were not changed when wet, even though they were placed in the bath - we had to leave a note in the bathroom asking for fresh laundry. Three of the lights in the room did not work and a arch on the window was broken. There was no tea or coffee making facilities and were tried to be charged for an additional packet of crisps and water we had not drunk whe. Checking out, my sighted in law ponied this out. Bono I suggest you check out he room we were given as supposedly superior - It was struggling to even reach basic.

The hotel staff were incredible. It was a pleasure to stay here and was comfortable, clean and had a warm feeling to the entire place. Even though the city of Dublin was alive and energetic the moment you walked out the back of the hotel (which is really cool as you sit on a well kempt back street that has restaurants up and down it and shops/bars around the corner) our stay here was quiet and relaxing. The day staff were awesome but I must say that the night concierge and management were extra special. Jacob is the night time concierge/person is so dedicated to the people who stay at the Clarence. He is a man who makes you feel so comfortable and is proud of his job and to represent the Clarence. He is a gem and ask for him if you stay there -- he is really great. As I said the staff is ALL great!... Really comfortable and the fact that Bono and the Edge from U2 own the hotel only adds to the special nature of the stay. Not a pretentious place though -- just down right warm and friendly. I would not stay anywhere else while in Dublin. U2 nailed it again!

The location next to the river would, I thought, make for a pleasent stay. Upon arrival the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. The room I was given a 2nd floor room overlooking the inside "courtyard"...no water in sight so a little disappointing. The room was a decent size and well presented. A large bed with good quality bedding looked very inviting after my long drive from the South West, and it was very comfortable too. All was well until......... Noise, noise, noise - from the adjacent bar.... About 10pm the room started to vibrate from the thud thud thud of the music from the adjacent bar. Now, you can expect some noise in the Temple Bar area, but this was extremely intrusive and very distracting. So much so that come midnight, when I called reception to find out when the bar closed and was told 3am, I'd had enough. This was a Sunday night, and with a business meeting the next day, I needed some rest. To be fair, the guy on reception asked if I wanted to move to a different room. They showed me a couple, and I took the one on the 4th floor, in which I could still hear the noise but it was less noticable. Luckily I did manage to get to sleep, but not until about 2am. This is something you really really really must consider when booking this hotel. I will have a moan about the mini bar too. Why, oh why, do hotels put such high prices on the items in the mini bar? €2.50 for a packet of crisps, a can of Coke for €3.00, a small bottle of water for €3.50...this is just a blatent rip off. Why don't they understand that if the prices were reasonable, they would sell so much more!!!!

Absolutely best possible location for my first trip to Dublin...close to everything, inc the hop-on/hop-off bus. Great staff, always helpful. Great pubs with Irish music right out the back door and Liffey River out the front door. Good Irish breakfast. Only possible negative is that this central Temple Bar location is not ideal for a restful night's sleep. This area really comes to life at night with music and drinking going on til the wee hours.

I appreciated the presence of natural finishes, i.e. wood floors and paneling, stone desk and table tops, real cotton sheets, simple yet tasteful sense of room design. However, even these 'natural' touches make for a hardscape in the rooms that feels harsh if not softened a bit with textiles and hangings, curtains and the like. Nothing is what was expected. Every aspect was a real disappointment. The food at the Tea Room was mediocre to poor, I sent back soup that tasted, truly, like dishwater. The location of the back of the hotel, where my room was, backs on to an outside bar patio that blasted tech muzak until 2 AM. The "gymnasium" was a truncated space with three shoulder to shoulder work out machines. I was told I had to get special entrance at the front desk. So, I did not bother until later when I was told I the room was open, unlocked and could be entered anytime... Room and general environment was ratty, unkept, and in need of serious upgrading... None of the expected eco-green elements of perks of a fine hotel. This place is one step beyond a hostel.
