Where to begin? From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The apartments themselves were clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Upon arriving, we found a welcome package on our table, packed with two loaves of brown bread, tuc crackers, a bottle of red wine, as well as a fridge stocked with milk, cheese and butter. On our first evening, we enjoyed a few drinks in the Helm bar while listening to a trad session. Once again, the staff could not have been friendlier and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. On our second night, our group of ten arrived at the Helm restaurant/bar for dinner. We hadn't thought to book in advance, yet the staff were highly apologetic when were told that we had a wait time of approx. 20 minutes. This didn't bother us in the slightest, as we happily enjoyed a drink in the bar and probably would have needed the 20 minutes anyway to decide what to order! When were shown to our table (after what seemed like a very short wait time), we found two free bottles of wine on our table as means of an apology for keeping us waiting. Additionally, throughout the meal, the wait staff brought out complementary portions of chips and vegetables. The food was delicious, served piping hot and once again, the staff were superb, ensuring that we had everything we needed. What struck me about our stay was the generosity of those running the apartments and bar/restaurant. Little touches like the welcome package, the complementary chips and veg etc. set this property apart from their counterparts. Considering we visited during a busy peak period (Easter holidays), when Westport was inundated with families, none of the aforementioned little touches were necessary in terms of drumming up business. Yet, I felt that our custom was highly valued and appreciated. Additionally, the price of our stay was great value (120 euro per night per apartment), especially considering breakfast was also included.
