Late at night, very tired, when I laid on the bed I felt it was wet! It smelled like beer or piss. There was no one responsible in the hostel at that hour. I covered the bed with the towel and tried to sleep. In the morning I left a note asking for clean sheets, matress, etc or another room. They simply changed the sheets. Since the matress was wet as well, you can imagine that changing the sheets was useless.
Shower had no hot water and a trickle of a flow - more like a low pressure tap. There were 2 showers for the entire hostel (10+ rooms) and as far as I was told by the manager only one could be used at a time as otherwise no water flowed in the other. Moreover, the shower was up two flights of stairs with insufficient space to change in the cubicle, meaning walking on the stairs past the glass front door wearing a towel. Showers were also mouldy & dirty (used plasters in the plugholes etc). Offered tea and coffee in the entrance foyer, but with no provision of milk or mugs, or convenient way of filling the kettle. It would also have been good if there was some means of preparing food, even if just a microwave/toaster given that the Holyhead labels itself as a hostel (the 'bed and breakfast' sign on the building is misleading as breakfast is not provided). Uncomfortable bed with only a single thin pillow each. Our room had a water pipe running through it next to the bed which hummed constantly, making getting to sleep very hard.
The bed was good, and that was the main thing. There was no kitchen, but at least you could boil some water. Luca in the personnel was very nice.
There was no furniture in the room, apart from the bed and something that looked like a stand for a flower pot! Th e water pressure in the shower was only enough for a trickle and the walls were mouldy. There was no place to meet other guests, apart from the sofas on the landings, where you wouldn't sit down with anybody else than somebody you already know.
I didn't know where it comes from... but I could feel the cigarette smell whole time -
Location, close to centre, close to Temple Bar district. Nearby busstops and nice bars and restaurants. Friendly staff. You get your own key to the hostel.
Curtains were broken so could not close, smell in the shower.
Cleanliness: shower had bad drain smells Poor facilities: Hard to make tea coffee etc No breakfast although advertised as a B&B 1small shower and 1toilet for 5 rooms some were 4 person Cramped conditions
Location. Also, the staff members are friendly people. free wifi
The bathrooms are dirty, the room smells like mold and they are super dusty.
There was a bed...just about.
A tiny single bed in a grim room...with no private bathroom. Poorly kept, with paint peeling everywhere and dirt and grimy corners. Shower had little power, and no hot water late when I checked in late afternoon. My main complaint is that despite this terrible standard, it wasn't even cheap. If they charged 30 Euros, then maybe. But for the price (84 Euros), it was the worst value accommodation of my 34 years on this planet. A private room in a hostel would have been an infinitely better option. Cheaper, cleaner, nicer, and probably with a functioning shower, rather than a cold dribble.
The vibe in the hotel is really laid back. Within 5 minutes you're in the heart of the city.
No hot water to sink. very poor shower - it only dribbled water. The door was no a 1hr fire door and had a hole in it!!! (Im a building control inspector). People sitting on the landing could be heard through the door very very clearly and I was woken several times. My window would not close properly and ~I was next to the shared WC. Every time someone went to the loo I could hear every tinkle and every plop!
Everything, I got bed bugs, dont stay here
quiet and clean
Staff very pleasant, location excellent and parking facility very reasonable.
There was no wi-fi connection available, the shower was cold for one of us.
No bed and no breakfast. We booked one quadruple room for 4 people. In the Internet they put a picture with 2 bunk beds and they have not such room. We got one bunk bed and one single bed only, so one of us had to sleep on the floor. The hostel is old and neglected, the shared bathroom was dirty, in the only one toilet on the floor the water didn’t work, really disgusting. The room was very hot, noisy, with a lot of mosquitos. They charged us for the whole stay before show us the room, we canceled after the first night and they refused to give us refund. They don’t give what they advertise and are unfair when cancel, they just steal part of our money. Don’t go there, you will destroy your vacation.
Bathroom was terrible, bed is oversized but has a small mattress. PowerPoint was not accessible.
WiFi doesn't works
We enjoyed the bunk beds, good rooms, and the additional showers and toilets to access if one was occupied. The staff was very nice and friendly.
The showers were a wee bit moldy here and there. The smell in the second floor shower was off-putting.
good location, Luca is helpful room was clean
showers to share, not enough they were filthy it's a priority which kills the whole rating of this hostel
Great host, very informative, very helpful, dealt with our situation to the best of his ability. Great location, a slight walk but it was fine for us.
Please be warned that the room we were in was infested with some sort of bug that left us covered in intensely itchy bites. (not bed bugs as we have had them before and this is different).4 weeks on and back home we are still fighting to stop the bites and get rid of the fleas/mites that we contracted. It was only in one room apparently and the only thing that ruined our stay, we have been informed that they have dealt with the problem but felt we had a duty of care to write a review.
Very close to the city centre part of Dublin and the luas (tram) lines. Quiet at night. Bed was clean and comfortable. The receptionist was friendly and tried to be helpful.
Card machine not working. Very dated hostel. Needs painted. Door rattled. There are other more modern hostels at similar prices however due to booking last minute unfortunately we weren't left much choice. They didn't know the parking regulations right outside their hostel. The guy told us we would be ok if we bought a parking ticket until 7pm (about 15 euro for 4 hours) as evenings and sundays are free however, on sunday morning we got to the car to find we had been clamped and infact the area is a clearway from 4pm to 7pm everyday! Had to fork out an 80 euro fine!! Wasn't best pleased.
Please don't book this hostel, this is the worst please for stay. If you don't have any other option, ok. Stay in the square is better that this place. The room was completely dirty, the shower don't work. Internet? Terrible...
