Score from 1261 reviews Very good
Lovely suite, spacious, luxurious, comfortable, quiet and we felt very much at home. Very secure building, in an excellent central spot. Jorge the housekeeper was very pleasant and helpful, he recommended a very good restaurant, La Caverna and gave us a 20% discount voucher, which was great. All in all, we would definitely recommend The Merchant House and we would stay there again.
Not the fault of The Merchant House, but some other guests were noisy when they got back in the early hours, shouting from an upstairs room, downstairs to someone staying on another floor. There are notices asking guests to be considerate, but sadly not everyone is. Wonder if they did manage to meet up at 8.30am for breakfast?!
Excellent location. Luxurious suite. Felt totally relaxed and enjoyed every minute.
Merchant House provides outstanding accommodation: quirky, spacious and comfortable in the heart of Temple Bar. Staff were very helpful without being intrusive and everything you need for a first class stay is provided.
We didn't want to leave!
Ideal location. Beautiful rooms. Will definitely return :-)
Everything about this was fabulous, the location, the size of the room, the luxury, the attention to detail (soundproofed windows, chocolate tray, mini bar selection, treats) I know we got a last minute deal and a fabulous rate and I'd be Happy to recommend this place!!
Nothing to complain about there was some noise from a gig behind earlier in the nite but that finished at 10pm and as we went out that wasn't even an issue so a non issue!! :)
The place is very well done, very comfortable, you know that as a guest you have been thoughtfully accommodate here.
I'd really have to nit pick, however if you are staying here and the nice person rings to know when you are checking in try to be, as on time as possible. I kept the staff waiting an hour and a half, because I didn't realise their is no check in desk. I hope I didn't appear rude.
Quality of the furnishings and cleanliness
Everything locked up when I arrived. Had to call them to get in and was left on the phone stood in the cold outside for the best part of 10 minutes whilst the guy who couldn't understand me tried to verify my reservation. On top of that the room was freezing cold and took the best part of 2 hours to warm up - the heating hadn't been switched on before my arrival even though they knew what time I was getting there.
Extremely quiet considering it's in the thick of it! Lovely large room Friendly staff to welcome you
Having to leave....
I spent two nights in the oscar Wilde suite with my boyfriend and was extremely happy with our stay. The room was absolutely beautiful and had everything that we could have wished for. The staff couldn't do enough and were ever so friendly. Told us where to go and what we needed to know. Brilliant location and wonderful breakfast!
We stayed in the merchant house after our wedding as part of our minimoon .we were great ed by the most helpful house keeper who immediately congratulated us and had made the room more romantic with a bed of rose petals. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel
no view from room felt chlostrapbobic very cold room
Location is fantastic, Rooms amazing and the staff can't do enough for you. You will not be disappointed with the Merchant house. See you next year, Mr Chapman
Only a personal recommendation: Bathrobes would be a nice touch.
The gentelman checking me in was very knowledgeable to the area and was as professional as you would expect from a five star hotel. The room was very pretty with nice extras, such as a available umbrella and a heated bathroom floor. (Even though it only stays heated for 15 min. )
The room heater was on a timer that did not allow for any heat after midnight. I inquired the next day . There is no way to alter that. The mattress was old and broken, not sleepable. Due to the cold and the mattress it was a night without sleep. The property is located up an alley with rough people milling about. It is a guest house not a hotel therefore no staff after hours . It is required you go through mutiple doors , locks and security key pads to be able to enter from the ally. I was overcharged from the booking.com rate quoted by $45.00.
Spacious and clean room.
Chocolate bars on offer in room were out of date! The price stickers were placed over the eat-by date on several bars. We found this totally unacceptable and of concern. Breakfast was served in a different building. This was not obvious when booking online. The menu was very restricted in choice of food and not great quality. We phoned en-route to enquire if there was parking at the guest house, we were told "yes", and to drive to the front door and speak to the housekeeper on arrival; only to find out that parking was in an independent nearby car park and not free. We would have liked to have known this in advance so we could choose where to park.
Location is excellent, right in the centre of temple bar, although it is right in the heart of the City you wouldn't know from inside the room as there is triple glazing at the windows. We stayed in the Oscar Wilde suite which was beautiful and exceeded all expectation. Heated flooring in the bathroom, fabulous coffee machine, Extra comfy bed and beautifully decorated. Everywhere is extremely clean. The owner met us on arrival and Julianne the house keeper was super friendly and very welcoming. We arrived at 10am so they let us leave our bags there and we went back to check-in in the afternoon. On the day of checkout (great late checkout time too!) we also left our bag there and picked it up later on before heading to the airport for our evening flight. If your booking breakfast it is served at an Italian restaurant at the end of the road (not even 2 mins walk) the breakfast was lovely, they offered full Irish breakfast, or whatever combination you wanted. It was cooked to perfection, not like a greasy spoon. I would definately recommend staying at the merchant house and we will definately be staying there again when we go back.
The merchant house has links with an Italian restaurant at end of the road. You get 20% off total food and drinks bill, but I would suggest booking a table at evening in the festive periods as it gets busy (we couldn't get a table) temple bar area is very busy but has a great atmosphere day and night.
2 minors... bed a little small room a little cold at night
Location is first class. The suite was spacious and very comfortable. Our house keeper was very helpful and knowledgable with lots of information.
WiFi was a little hit & miss. Three flights of narrow stairs.
I liked the fact that you heard no noise from the busy streets below, with three doors between us and the revellers you felt very safe and relaxed.
The dirty DVDs for sale in the room. The accommodation is sandwiched between a Thai massage parlour and a Mask and Fetish Shop so Im sure if you fancied porn you wouldnt have to look far.
Quirkyness of location, cosy and comfortable, attentive staff
Probably location of opposite building feeling of being overlooked but then again added to the quirkyness
Rooms much more appealing than a standard hotel. Location perfect and not disturbed by the hoards outside at midnight! Thought having no food would be an issue but it wasn't. Breakfast was a 100mtrs away and a very good discounted Italian on the next road.
No bar! Though the mini-bar was reasonably priced.
- Luxury accommodation in the heart of Dublin City; - very private and comfortable, peaceful, homely and unobtrusive
The room was beautifully decorated with lots of little touchs which added to the comfort. Although it's in Temple Bar the windows are well insulated so there is no noise.
Service, cleanliness and facilities excellent.
Breakfast in seperate building.
The best place i ever stayed before! Will return back soon
