Very nice and comfortable hotel and great breakfast. Staff very helpful.

The whole stay was excellent great place excellent food and staff
food, comfort, location.
Easy to reach from Dublin Ferry Port. Good Breakfast.
Poor or no Television reception.
We arrived about 6 hours before check in time and our room was not ready but the staff bent over backwards to find us another one. they definitely went the extra mile. The room was very clean and comfortable.
The weather was very mild so the room was very hot as the window could not be opened more than a couple of inches.
Shirley Arms is a lovely modern hotel, staff, food, bedroom are all great and it is very clean also, bedroom is very spacious and comfortable
Everything, great Hotel.
Everything but especially the exceptional friendliness of the staff from reception to restaurant to the bar. Top class!
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to this lovely hotel. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and our room was so comfortable and spotlessly clean. We will definitely be back!!!!
Bar food was excellent
Hotel was extremely comfortable. I have been to my fair share of 4/5 star hotels and this was on par with some of the best 4's. Great value!
Excellent food in restaurant and nice breakfast.very good staff
Small tv in room.room 112 a little noisy from traffic
Traditional breakfast served at your table and proper toast. No need to que for buffet (or stupid toasting machine). All meals freshly cooked and presented with style.
The staff were all sovery friendly and helpful. The hotel was lovely and clean. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the menu was very reasonable with a great variety to choose from. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and at such great value will definitely return.
Stayed here two years ago as we were going to rally school Ireland, about 50kms away. Couldn't get accommodation in Monaghan town so ended up booking the Shirley arms but well worth staying there! Did the exact same thing recently. Food was excellent, didn't disappoint in any way and I'm a very picky eater. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is safe and plentiful. Beds were very comfortable and I slept like a baby, so did my boyfriend! Everything was spotless clean in the room too, couldn't be faulted!
I had asked for a nice view if possible, didn't get it but wasn't bothered at all as everything else about the hotel was excellent!
3 of 5 starsReviewed 1 week ago I arrived at the hotel with my very elderly aunt.No assistance to help my aunt up with her bag to the room and I had my hands full.I hadvasked for a quiet room and found there to be some work going on in a building next door.Linda the receptionist very kindly and without question gave us a nicer, quieter room at no extra cost. The breakfast was lovely and a big special mention to Deidre(or was it Dervla?)who went out of her way to ask us how our holiday was going, engaged in nice chat whilst still being attentive to others needs and providing us with a flask for the day.She could really give some of the other staff there a lesson in customer relations.I always make a point of giving a cheery hello to all staf in hotels I stay in.I found most responses to be quite lacking and almost sullen. One fellow behind the reception desk in casual clothing lifted his head and ignored me and appeared to glare without a smile most of the time and never said hello ,smiled or ask how our stay was.He was apparently one of the owners!I was very suprised at this as I had read such good reviews. The rooms are lovely ,the location great but very little ambience, maybe I was spoilt having just spent a couple of weeks in european hotels. It was very hot in the rooms, there was no air conditioning but I did manage to get a fan which was the only one in the hotel apparently but provided great relief from the heat.lighting in the room was very very dim. Room Tip: Family rooms are very nice. See more room tips Stayed July 2014, travelled with family
The general manager.Sullen, unspeaking, unengaging and moody looking.I said hello and he just glared.Dressed very casual.I was suprised to find out he was one of the owners!I had asked one of the staff because I was a quite upset by his miserable persona, having just travelled through Italy and the UK and received amazing friendliness from our accomodation.Even the wee bed and breakfast in Galway carried my aunts bag in and asked her how her holiday was going. You can tell by the tone of his responses he seems to feel he is doing you a favour letting you stay there!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the included breakfast. Friendly bar staff and room was clean and comfortable.
Size and comfort of the room Location in the town Friendliness of the staff
The location of the hotel in Carrickmacross suited our visit with family in Monaghan, & a wedding in Castlebellingham. We arrived late evening quickly shown to our rooms, the bar & restaurant were both open & we were able to get drinks & an evening meal, which were good value.
The only minor niggle was there was a wedding party on the Saturday evening, & some guests were still partying as they went to their cars, this wasn't enough to spoil our stay in any way.
Initial outside appearnce of hotel, and the whole town was looking well, with stone building, flowers etc. Staff were lovely. Room was really nice, lovely toiletries, nice bed and bathroom. Nice dinner, and i enjoyed breakfast.
Just one thing and it's common to all hotels. Why no hair conditioner? All women use it. Luckily i brought my own as this is always the case. Two body lotions, which i never use, an no conditioner,
Breakfast was very tasty
Matress too soft but is difficult to please everyones personal choice when it comes to something like this.
Great location, very clean and comfortable, great food
Just bulb reading lamp was gone, but that wasnt problem to us cos we didnt need it, our stay was only 1 night, but could be problem to others, but all else was perfect
