Location and the excellent staff. Nothing was to much trouble and they go that extra mile in trying to help and meet the expectation of the guest.

Awonderful boutique hotel in the lovely town of Belmullet. 'A quiet sophistication' is how I would describe the hotel and it's facilities. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The bar is cosy old world. Breakfast is served until 10.30. The hotel is situated in a friendly rural town close to beautiful sandy beaches, mountains and rivers, and the historical Céide Fields. An ideal base for an outdoor holiday or simply to relax and go sightseeing by car or boat trips. I am planning a return visit already. I would prefer if the breakfast was not served in the bar/lounge area, but I would like to go to the bar for my midday coffee and sit by the welcoming fire and relax!

Staff, especially reception, were excellent. Restaurant very good. We did not know restaurant would n ot be open on Sunday and we would have to eat all meals and Monday's breakfast in the bar, where the food was poor and the service indifferent.

It is quite difficult to put in words how to describe this hotel other than to say “If Carlsburg did hotels, this would be the one they would do!”. In over 5 years of staying in Hotels all over Ireland, I would rate this one as the best one overall in terms of value for money, service level, attention to detail, cleanness and overall customer awareness. I arrived about 6pm, having been travelling and working all day and checked in effortlessly, was shown down to the room ( Not given directions!) and settled down to relax. The bed was so comfortable, I promptly fell asleep for over 3 hours and almost missed dinner!!!! That would have been a bigger shame as the seafood was excellent!!! The curtains closed completely to give a very dark room, (Great when you don’t sleep well away from home!) and had one of the best night’s sleep I can remember in a long time!!. Awoke to a gorgeous day having overslept!, Shower was fab, strong and hot and loads of room, could have stayed in there for an hour!, The towels , well the main one was so big, I nearly fell over it!, Had breakfast, again – excellent!, Overall it was just great! As I travel on business extensively, there are a few things that really matter to me, a good shower, (why do Hotels misunderstand the importance of these things?), a good iron and board and wi - fi or internet access in the rooms. Well, here scored 10 out of 10 on all fronts! What appealed to me most about this hotel was their attention to detail, it was absolutely first class! For an Independent Irish family owned hotel I could not speak highly enough of it, it could easily compete with any of the 5* hotels I have stayed in worldwide. This place is a little gem in the furthest reaches in Mayo, If you are travelling or planning a stay in the West of Ireland, the scenery on the way out to Belmullet is outstanding and it’s well worth a day’s trip on its own. I can see myself returning again soon.

This is a very luxurious hotel, we stayed for one night in the most expensive room, the Ivor suite. Although it was expensive it was lovely to see how the other half live, for one night anyway :) loved every moment of it, didn't want to leave the room. If you want to spoil yourself this is definitley the place to be....didn't eat in the restaurant but had dinner in the bar and it was delicious...

The room was amazing - spacious and beautifully designed! The staff were the nicest people - thank you for your attention! The dinner and breakfast were above any expectations - thanks to the chef! I do travel a lot but our stay in this hotel is unforgetable for which I would like to thank everyone at the Talbot hotel.

The staff here are naturally friendly and helpful. They responded to our requests wilth ease. We really liked the quirky decor too. This sets it apart and adds a luxury feel. Although the weather was chilly the hotel temperature was nicely ambient and not stuffy. We were made to feel well looked after and will definitely return. With the challenging links of Carne so close by, this is a great base. Already,we are planning to visit again with friends. Thanks so much for making us feel so welcome! You have created a gorgous boutique hotel with different areas to either socialise in or relax and read. Don't change a thing. See you again before the year is out. Loretto Mc Dermott. Dublin

I booked the hotel based on tripadviser reviews and it was excellent. Yes, plain from the outside but very good inside. Very convenient for discovering the little known Erris peninsula with great empty beaches. This corner of Ireland is well worth a couple of days at least. Had an excellent dinner in the hotel.

Comfortable boutique style, friendly staff, quiet, good food, drink and food reasonably priced - would encourage a return trip Minor quibbles only - no private car park, room charge on the high side for a four star in early season, coarse towels and robes
