Comfort. Space. Playground. Clubhouse. One of the best self catering I have stayed in. Can't wait to go back next year
the location, staff were very helpful, the evening meal at the hotel was delicious and the service and attention of the staff could not be faulted, lunch at the golf club was excellent value and good food, lodges were well equipped, nothing was too much for the staff.
mix up over timing of breakfast so we had brunch instead, would like to see a swimming pool/spa/leisure complex there
Opulence! Beautiful room, huge bed and a wonderful roll top bath with all the best toiletries provided. Excellent breakfast. Only thing missing was the Champagne!
The restaurant food was a bit disappointing. Menu reads well but felt it was more style over substance. (There is a bar menu but cannot comment)

The ability to have our whole family stay in one place and cook meals. We should have done multiple days to take advantage of the all the things to do at he castle and on the grounds.
Some maintenance issues with the heating system, did not get enough hot water.
The staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. The atmosphere is fabulous. The lodges are prepared to a very high standard. The facilities are wonderful. Overall a great location for a family holiday or a romantic getaway :)
We had been informed that there was a private function on and the castle itself would be off limits for 24 hours. No problem there.
We had also been informed that the golf clubhouse would be open for food/drinks etc. However, this was not the case. The golf lodge was beautiful - spacious and clean but we had no supplies with us. A trip back into Waterford for pizza and drinks was not what we had anticipated. We had a lovely morning - food at last and a walk around the lovely grounds. Check amenities before booking.
Loved the fact you were on your own island had the luxury of been closed off from the city life. Yet not to far of a drive to town, tramore etc. you also had the option to eat on the castle, golf resort or bring your own food as the cabins are fully equipped with all the essentials needed to cook your own meals. The small park for the children and the relaxing walks one can take with the children on the grounds.
If one was to suggest one thing that was not up to satisfaction it would be that the leather couch is not that comfortable. But to be honest that is just grasping at straws as one could not fault the whole experience at all.
Staff were fantastic (especially the lovely woman on the front desk) Cocktails were yummy Rooms were so pretty and lovely Location was gorgeous Golf club nearby really nice and welcoming
Charge 5 euro for the ferry (should be included in room rate - feels like it's "money grabbing" when done this way). Breakfast was lovely, though it wasn't explained to us when we sat down how it worked and therefore lead to confusion. Distance to the city felt a little misleading. Though probably as the crow flies it's not far, it is too awkward and far to just pop into town for a stroll. We were there during very hot weather and would love to have had an electric fan to cool the room a little. Wished there was somewhere to have a little spa treatment (even just a manicure). When chilling so much and so far from town, it seemed a pity not to offer the facility.
Lodge accommodations were so comfortable and attractive.
The lodge we stayed in was just perfect. In every way. Our kids had a marvelous time. Can't wait to go back.
nothing we didn't like
Location, surroundings, breakfast, Lodges are fantastic!!!
The Lodges are excellent value for a group of up to 6 people.
Location suited us as it was near all facilities but it was quiet and safe for small kids.houses were well furnished and good quality appliances. Staff in castle were friendly and helpful.
Outside of houses were a little weather beaten.the park could be a little more updated.and paintwork inside of houses needed redoing.
The retreat of the island location is idylic. The lodges were very modern and clean. The driving range is a great facility. Club house food was good.
No pool. Lodge poorly equipped for self catering, had no kettle, chopping board or corkscrew. Complaints not dealt with, requested a kettle twice and never received one, asked for a corkscrew and told to bring bottle to Castle to open. Clubhouse not aware of meal deal in newsletter. Food overpriced in Castle for the quality served. Charge for car ferry.
Crossing the island ferry (drive your car on, it's free and runs every 15 minutes), you arrive at a charming sanctuary. Beautifully decorated, exquisite food, it is all that you dream a castle should be.
The signature basil and orange shampoo might be lovely for some but seemed to be shampooing with salad. Also wish there was a spa.
Loved the dinner and staff. Enjoyed the grounds and lovely walking trail with sounds of quail and a huge rabbit sighting to boot. Comfortable and plenty of room for all 5 of us. Great kitchen and facilities in the cottage. Lovely stay!
The staff was exceptional; especially Katie (sp?) at reception. She went out of her way to help us and it was much appreciated!
Absolutely luxurious and stunningly beautiful!
The food was great, especially the beef and sorbet! Yum!
The cot springs were worn out. I put a mattress on the couch. TV was in bedroom, not living room. Should just make two bedroom suite. Not all the windows opened. I think you could I prove the grounds all around the castle with landscaping. Moving sheds away from the castle. Tables/chairs outside overlooking the river, maybe some shuffle board...the rooms need to be more like a person incisions a castle bedroom, not a hotel. We were disappointed. We could only afford one castle stay while in Ireland. We chose Waterford to make my daughter feel like a princess, she did not.
Loved the location and loved the spaciousness of the lodges. Very comfortable beds and bathrooms. Guys loved the golfcourse.
The kitchen equipment is quite sparse. When cooking for 6 adults the pots are too small, 1 bigger would be welcome. Also serving spoons would be handy! And in our lodge the cups/mugs and regular drinking glasses were not sufficient, but 1 call to the reception and this was rectified. More comfortable outdoor chairs & table would be nice if you're staying for a longer period and are lucky enough to get glorious weather like we did!
fantastic stay, great location, lodges very spacious.can't wait to return.
Very spacious apartments.
The lights did not work in the living room.
