I stayed in the West County Inn many times over the past twenty years. This time it was a surprise for my wife and I was totally shocked with what I experienced. 1.The general Decor is is total disrepair. 2. There is an awful musty smell in the bar area. 3. The food and service is dreadful, it was cold, tasteless, I would never eat there again. The bedrooms were untidy with damp yellow spots on the walls (Scary) Their is a big sign in the corridor that if you want to go to the Leisure Centre, You have to bring your own towels from the room!! This once fine hotel is now a shambles. Do not recommend it to anyone, even for free!!!

The hotel staff were excellent , always polite and friendly and would go out of there way to ensure everything was okay, they were very friendly to the kids. The manager was very approchable and a very nice man.I Came in the middle of the week so it was a little quite there was no entertainment and the kids club was not on. But there was a swimming pool so that kept the kids entertained for a while. The bar food was excellent children meals were enough for an adult good value for money. We did not try the resturant so cannot comment , the breakfast was also excellent. When we arrived we went to the family room it was very very basic and was not clean we complained nicely so they put us in a bigger family room and much more up to date and cleaner, though if it had of being a busy weekend not sure what they could of done. The first night we arrived some sort of panel lifted off the roof so that had a panel in our ceiling lifting all night we got no sleep but we were looked after and the problem was sorted promply this problem came about due to the bad winds that night. All in all the hotel was basic but I think it was due to it being so old , parts could do with some re vamp and some of the rooms a bit of up dating to brighten the place

So many things! The pool and gym were wonderful! The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The staff was delightful and started our day off with a smile! The town of Essen was very convenient and gave us the ability to see many things quickly. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. The hotel is older, but clean.

Have to say the beds(double) were terrible, the mattress was in need of serious attention and immediate change!! The shower head was nearly blocked and the smell of must and damp was very evident.. As above..

The girls at reception were just a pleasure to deal with and very friendly.I Work as a receptionist myself so I know the role oh so well! These girls were very well trained and so pleasant. I would be back to stay because they were so warm and welcoming! The only thing I didnt really like about the room we stayed in it was too warm and the walls are paper thin.We did turn off the rad but it was still too hot and didnt sleep very well at all then. Also the toilet had a bit of a smell in it.it wasn't very fresh.

The bar staff were brilliant. Really enjoyed the stay. Great location if you want to tour around the West for a few days. The heating came on in the middle of the night and even after turning the radiator off and window open, it was far too hot and uncomfortable

the leisure centre was excellent The bar staff were very poor. On our second night we attempted to eat in the bar and asked the waitress 3 times for a menu and she kept saying in a minute. Having failed after 20 minutes to be served, we left and ate in town. The breakfast was equally as busy and although staff coped better, almost eveything was gone when we arrived for breakfast at 9:10am

Convenient as we were at a wedding The room was old fashioned, dated, dull, dark, badly needed to be done up. Some lamps did not work, TV had very bad reception. Towels were about 10 years old, worn and thread bear.

Very friendly staff, nice homely feel, food and accomadation very reasonably priced, Irish Dancing feis on all Weekend which kind of took over the hotel, leisure centre full of children and kids everywhere, great if your a family but not ideal for the romantic relaxing weekend my Husband and i had in mind, we would probably have choosen somewhere else more suitable had we been aware, but can't complain considering we got it so cheap, and we did enjoy the stay we just spent most of it in the town.

The staff were lovely, very polite and very helpfull. My husband is a guiness drinker and the whole weekend we spent there he didn't get a decent pint once! he then switched to carslberg but that was no better. the bar staff were very young and maybe they weren't trained to pull pints. i drink Bulmers light there was none of this in stock the whole weekend! The fire alarm went off in the early hours of the morning, we couldn't get in touch with reception to ask what was going on and the door in our corridor locked so we couldn't go down to reception to ask what was going on! They don't seem to have a fire drill in place, and if they do it was not in use on this occasion! otherwise i had a great time, food was lovely although you could not get bar food, you could only eat in the restaurant.

I have stayed here on numerous occasions but never have I experienced anything like the New Year. Children running up and down the corridors at all hours of the night. Place full of Travelers. People walking around in PJ's all day even in the dining room and lounge. We ended up having to leave the hotel on new years eve and go into Ennis and the whole idea of staying in the hotel was to stay put. I know you cannot vet everyone who books on line but there has to be a way to control people and have a certain dress code for public places.

Very satisfactory. Was there for a wedding party. It was very reasonable, perfect if you just want a place to lay your head after a night out rather than paying for cab home. Rooms were comfortable and staff were friendly. Was only there for one night so didn't really experience any negatives.

When we had a young family we stayed at the west county hotel. We always had a great time there, with good food, lovely staff, and great facilities. Now that our family have grown up we like to revisit places that bring back good memories. Just love your hotel. It has something to offer every age.

Staff helpful and friendly. Reasonbly priced. On entering the hotel there seemed to be an antique atmosphere but on closer inspection this was overshadowed by the obvious need of modernising and refurbishment. Lighting in certain areas of the bedroom hallway and the interior of my particular room left alot to be desired with patches of paint needed and the radiator maintenanced. Also, the elevator would make a nervous flyer uneasy.

“The staff were incredibly friendly, and couldn,t do enough for me. The manager kindly brought my luggage from my car to reception when the hotel carpark was full, then arranged for a porter to help me to my room. Any enquiry I had was met with a wonderful friendly answer, thankyou. Our room was immaculate, and beautiful too. When we read about the history of the "old ground hotel", we decided to have a look around and find the famous fireplace! We found it with the help of a young lad who was tidying up the suite... He was extremly friendly, and told us as much history as he could, I was so impressed by his manner, I asked his name...Conor! A credit to your staff! Thankyou so so much ” Catherine, Ballyhaunis |
