Overall, this was a dreadful experience. When we first arrived the front door of the hotel was locked but an attendant in the shop door you the entry code. There is no elevator in the building so we dried our luggage up to the reception desk. The young lady at the desk was friendly and helpful and is about the only positive comment we can make about this hotel. When we were shown to our room first thing we noticed was a mild, but bad, smell; the windows are clearly not been opened for a few days. The room was basic but looked very tired and in need of a facelift. Our room had damp patches on the ceiling and one wall accompanied by some mould. The floor also had a few loose times. The kitchen was quite well stocked but we had to wash everything before we used it. The kettle was old and the electrical cord of the kettle was patched in two places with electrical tape. Coffee was provided, but no tea, creamer or milk. At about 3am my wife and I noticed a glimmer of light on a wall and realized that the door to our room was opening. The safety chain was in place, but we had apparently not locked the door properly. A hand came through the ajar door and tried to release the safety chain. My wife immediately shouted and I raced to slam the door closed – unfortunately, he would be intruder pulled his/her hand clear before the door slammed shut. At that point we phoned the number that had been given to us if we needed any help. Unfortunately, we only got an answering machine. About 15 minutes later (with the door properly locked this time) we could see the door handle and move again with someone evidently attempting to enter, even though they knew we were in the room. By this stage we had called the police. About 10 minutes later there was another attempt to open the door and shortly after that the police arrived. We described to them exactly as we have written in these previous few lines.
Nothing except for the receptionist

there are two room categories in this hotel. renovated - 100-numbers and "old" one - 200 numbers. choose one from 100-numbers. sometimes there can be rather noisy outside in the evening. just keep your earplugs nearby and sleep well.
I liked location a lot. this place is perfect if you plan to explore city and spend less time in your hotel room. most of the touristic spots are in walking distance. also cleaning was good. they always put some coffee, tea and cookies in the room.

Best thing about this hotel is it's staff. Generally you don't see them, but they are right there if you have any problems or questions.

We would have preffered a double bed instead of two singles together which was a bit awkward and less comfortable. Microwave or hob would be a handy addition.
Very accommodating staff. Avenir even let us put forward the night because of our day long flight delay and also check out late. Good value for money. Great location!

The plumbing might be in need of an overhaul. The water in our room drains slow, which is the reason why we thought it was dirty the first time we arrived. We also didn't like the fact that housekeeping was non-existent in Shabbat. It's a little weird thinking that religious prohibitions are imposed on guests.
They sent us an email with check-in information the day before. It was very helpful and very much appreciated. I also like the fact that they gladly cleaned the bathroom again when we said that it was a little dirty. It's not the swankiest hotel, but given its location in Jerusalem's city center, I would opt to stay here again.

Ok I made the mistake of trying to check in on the Sabbath but found a locked door and no contact details- only discovered later that I had received an email from the manager an hour before arrival explains how to open the door and which room was mine After staying at a different hotel the first night they honored my two-night booking but gave me a dingy room with no sunlight. When I asked for a transfer to a more expensive room and offered to pay the difference, was told that a room was available but needed cleaning. However when I offered to wait the availability of the other room mysteriously vanished Overall left very dissatisfied
Excellent kitchenette facilities and plenty of complimentary tea/coffee

Location, facilities, value, all very good. The problem was we showed up after an overnight flight, no sleep, at noon. They said our room would be ready by 2. Not ideal, but we killed some time, which was hard because of no sleep and freezing rain/sleet outside. Room was not ready until 4. Spending 4 hours killing time outside in freezing rain after not sleeping for 20 hours? Not cool.

Exellent location, nice price, wi-fi, kitchen zone.

Odd smell in bathroom which has no aeration. Door to balcony is not closing tight so that wind and cold enters the room.
Very spacious and nice balcony. Due to exeptional weather condition (snow and cold) we had to spend more time in the hotel than expected, which makes the friendly staff that watched after its guest more appreciated.

Sheets and mugs were not clean.
Location is good, central, walkable to old city. Not a real hotel, just rented rooms. Don't expect any luxury.

Room 102 windows face inner yard and it was VERY noisy during night- even with ear plugs you can hear noisy ventilation from neighbours. Very small shower cabin - some 70 x 70cm with old fashioned curtain that sticks to your body during shower. One cup and one wine glass for double room
Perfect location, can't be better-close to tram line, to old city.

Place is not overtly dirty but does not feel particularly clean with loose floor tiles and mold in the shower. Musty smell which gets better when the a/c on. Initially given a room on the second floor which was totally unacceptable, Felt as if I was in a slum with noisy tenants and scary loft. My room was changed the next day after a call to the owner so review is based upon first floor room. First floor is actually one flight up. No elevator.
Staff person Amelia very helpful and accommodating but staff only on site in the daytime. Very responsive to email and phone communications. Rooms very spacious with everything we needed. Location fantastic with only a short walk to the old city gates. Only a step away from restaurants and shops.

Staff was friendly, attentive, professional. Even though I was there on a holiday, they were responsive to a repair issue I had. Cute building, comfortable room, central location.
