Top location in the centre of Tel Aviv. 10-15 minutes walking distance to beach. Our (private) room was spacious, quiet, clean and secure. Nice backyard where you can sit, eat and chat with others. Very nice and extraordinarily helpful staff and owner. Familiar hostel atmosphere! Would definitely come back.
It is advisable not to be so stingy and provide free real coffee and milk!
Broken dusty aircon, broken shower.
I stayed in the 14-bed room. Sheets, shower and toilet were clean, good security, locking drawer available (use your own lock). What's great is how kind and helpful the Cohen family are, and how the hostel was a great place to come back to. It's in a central location, easy to reach by bus, with lots of nearby facilities and attractions, in one of Tel Aviv's oldest buildings.
everything was great. staff are cool to include shu-shu :), location is favorable. great to meet other travelers in there
- quite near to a supermarket (am.pm ) - not far away from beach - nice yard - you can book by yoursefl
- charge 4% extra paid by card, which is not indicated on booking.com - wifi was very weak in the private room - The private room's shower was not comfortable
Well located a few blocks from central Tel Aviv, 15 min from the beach, bus 4 from the central bus station. Kitchen a big bonus, very social with a spacious outdoor area. Great supermarket across the road. English spoken and information freely given, completely safe.
Shock of Tel Aviv prices, but this is Israel.
The mood! The Rosh Hashana "cooking party" with mix of Korean/French/Russian/Israeli cuisine. The advices at breakfast time to visit the city, the time spent discussing with other travelers. Great time!
location, all transport connections are close. Supermarket across the road, excellent kitchen. stayed there twice. first time was a bed in a shared room, enough place, slightly hot though. second time took a private room, pretty good, bed is okay, separate bath, AC is working 50/50, so please check it before arrival, as on summertime/autumn Israel is pretty hot place to stay. Special thanks to Felix, Roy and all the guys. Very friendly and international place. As a hostel - no doubts the best option.
price for private room may be high if you don't book in advance, but the accomodation in Israel is pretty expensive everywhere
Excellent location, very helpful and friendly staff, casual atmosphere.
This is a great place! Hostel was very clean (rooms and common areas), and it is in a great location in Tel Aviv. Staff and volunteers were very friendly and kind, and were happy to answer all my questions in helping me navigate around Tel Aviv. The rooms were comfortable and well-kept, and the outside sitting area is lovely, too! And, the hostel seems to attract great people -- all the other guests I met were very friendly, also. Highly recommended! I plan to stay here each time I return to Tel Aviv.
(nothing negative to say -- it is a great place to stay!)
As we arrived really late, we went to the hostel in the early morning. The staff gave us big hospitality to take a deep rest and told us to stay no matter when the official check out time is.
The reception was closed and locked at 1am and we couldnt access to anyone though the staff was actually in the reception while missing our calls. But afterward we came across the fact that he was waiting for us inside. Maybe there was a problem with his cellphone.
Supportive and Friendly family business, location, cleanliness, WiFi. They made me feel as though I was at home!! By all means, I would definitely recommend Chef Hostel Montefiore!!
Not the Hostel's fault - sometimes some people act a little rude.
The location is wonderful, 2 minutes from the City Centre, 10-15min from a beach if you take the Allenby street, a supermarket which works till 23.00 just around the corner, a 24hours supermarket 5 min away in the Shalom Tower. Cafes, bus stops to the Central Bus and Train Stations, change offices, everything is near. They clean the hostel every day, it's very clean. The hostel was a flat before, and all the interior is more like a flat, not typical hostel, you feel comfortable there. There is a kitchen with pots, kettle and cutlery, a hall with sofas and a TV, and a very nice terrace! There is a drawer in a dormitory with very small boxes in it, there are no lockers for them, so keep in mind: you can put only laptop and some small things into a box and you should bring your own small locker. But the most important is the manager of this hostel - Roy! He's a cool guy! I was alone in my 5beds dormitory but I never felt bored or lonely. Almost every evening he tried to create some activities: walking around the district or going to clubs and pubs....that was really cool, many thanks to him! So Roy will treat you like an old friend and help in your self-made trip with his tips. There are only two showers and three toilets. There is no hairdryer.
I slept in 5beds dormitory room, and the window faced another building, there were lots of conditioners in the wall, which worked all days and nights, so better to take earplugs with you.
I stayed at the apartment with one bedroom. Very clean, quiet (didn't hear a thing although the room was next to the patio!). The very best part of the experience was the manager of the hostel, making sure I was happy with my stay. The one-bedroom apartment is a great alternqtive to the very expensive Tel Aviv hotels. I got bot the privacy of a hotel room and the social life of a hostel all rather inexpensively!
It was the great time in Tel Aviv. You can meet people from the all word in this hostel. Very good personal and service. There is a lot off kitchen appliances, so you can cook everything. It close to the beach and city center.
You can drink only one cup tea or coffee for free at the day, then you must pay. The shower can't be longer more than 10 minutes, for me it's enough, but for girls, I don't think so.
Friendly other travellers
When I arrived the person at reception claimed I paid too little he also lied by telling me the room I ordered did not exist. Once complaining to booking.com magically there was a misunderstanding and the room was ready. The man Felix was rude and disgusting when I wanted to leave early he refused to give me any of my money back and wanted to charge me £100 a night extra .. Again once I complained to booking.com I got some money back but very little meaning the time I was there I did not get the value for money. Do not recommend.
Hi, I just want to recommend staying at Chef Hostel Montefiore for anyone visiting Tel Aviv. The hostel is in a cool and convenient area, and the walk to the beach was approximately 10 minutes. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. Anything I needed help with or if I had any questions, Roy helped me with as much as he could. I had just finished an intensive physical training and touring of Israel, and I was very pleased with my decision stay at Chef Hostel Montefiore, and relax a few extra days afterwards. Can't wait to come back!
Nothing i can say that i didn't like about it.
The staff was very helpful and generous to us, and we liked our stay there.
I really enjoyed my stay in this hostel. It is really easy to take busses to/from this hostel, the supermarket in the street is open 24/7 and the owner is really friendly. The hostel is also clean. Walking to the beach, jaffa and the market is easy.
Athmosphere, cleaningness, location, kindness of staff, high level visitors (young european academicians and professionals)
Being my first time using a hostel I was not sure what to expect but Chef was like staying in somebody's house rather than a dorm. I was told that this place is much nicer/homier than avg hostels and do not expect this quality everywhere. The owner was nice, helpful and informative about everything in Tel Aviv. Location right off of Allenby is great and only a 10-15 min walk from the beach.
The internet was spotty but I think there was an issue with the company.
- 10-15min to beach by foot - Lots of info and maps (for free) to help finding restaurants, touristplaces and anything. - Roy, the owner, knows about the whole town and gladly helped us knowing where, when and how to find all the local markets, shops and more, very useful. - Cab from airport (Ben Gurion) is about 26€ for two ppl incl. luggage - AC system very effective - The city street (Rothchild St.) is less than 100m from the hostel. - In this room there's also a small fridge wich we used every day (plus other comforts). - the bus/shared taxi to the bus station goes by the street all the time. - Plenty of organized activities and tours to the dead sea, restaurant visits, bar crawls, and other activities such as the biking tour upnorth to the gardens. - Having breakfast on the porch in the shade was terrific - Israel in general is a very nice place to go too, people are nice, and we both felt very safe at all times, even though we came in the middle of this summers conflict. Also no one ever tried to scam or rob us. We're coming back again!
There's not a lot to complain about but here goes: - My wife wasn't as pleased with cleanliness as I was but in my opinion it's no worse than any other place I've been to. It's still ok. - It's good to have a kitchen and fridge downstairs but it was a bit hard to find the stuff I needed. - The wifi didn't reach very well to my cellphone in the room since it's far from the router, but the computer (macbook) did just fine. The connection was Ok, not great, but we spent most of our time outside anyway so it's not a real problem in my opinion.
Good location,friendly staff,wi-fi is better.
