Located along the authentic narrow streets of Jerusalem's old city, the Chain Gate Hostel is made entirely of Jerusalem stone and provides air-conditioned accommodations with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 436 reviews Good
Excellent location, close to the Old City, Jehuda and the Jerusalem CBS. The staff is also excellent, Tslil (the manager) especially helpful and kind. The breakfast good and included in the price. The room was clean, and the beds are comfortable. We were three times in this Hostel. Not a Grand Hotel, (this is a Hostel), but we love this. The atmosphere is international, the wifi is good. Lion's Dan a good idea.If we go back to Jerusalem, we will stay here again.
We love the noise of the Jaffa street, but if you do not like, maybe is a bit noisy.
The hostel is great value, has character, and is right by shops, restaurants and coffee shops. It's close to the tram and 10 mins walk from the Old City. It is on Zion Square where there is often live music and dancing.
I could hear alot of noise while sleeping
I liked the location - not far from Jaffa Gate. It is important, as in Jerusalem you need to walk a lot.
Basically no breakfast, poor shower, but considering the price and location all is ok.
I liked was really close to the old city. The staff is very friendly and kind.
The building is old and need an urgent reshuffle. The price has to relation with the quality of the rooms.
The staff were excellent
getting used to small single bed
Location is not far from Old City on a good street. Room is spacious. They provided an extra heater.
The place was dirty, bathroom was terrible and it stinked, the balcony doors could not be closed completely so there was cold draft, Wi-Fi was bad (to say the least)
Excellent location Warm rooms, which is very important in winter Lounge place on the roof
Nothing to report
The people at the front desk are very helpful. The location is perfect for any traveler.
The place is old and needs an urgent reshuffle. The bathroom smelled like urine and there is no division between the shower and the toilet. The kitchen has no dish washer, and not everybody cleans the dishes well, this may lead to poisoning or illnesses.
Good breakfast spreds and nice lounge for relaxing. Not full of your typical, young backpacking crowd, but I enjoyed the families and adults I met traveling too.
Bunk beds shake a lot and mattresses are smaller than regular twin sized beds. I was either on the edge of the bed or rolled into the wall. No lock on dorm and door was frequently left open.
breakfasts are good, location is central, staff is very friendly
i stayed in female dorm, the linen and towels are very old, let alone blankets and pillows, i think I was bitten by bugs or something :( and it is very noisy in the evenings outside the hostel
Very old rooms and furniture. Carpets on the flooe are dirty. No hot water at all, only warm.Too noisy if your room is near kitchen or restroom.
Location excellent, staff always willing to assist and provide relevant information and help make my stay pleasant and trouble free. I stayed a week at this hostel and it felt like I was part of a big family which for a solo traveller is important. I would not hesitate to stay at this hostel again and highly recommend this to both families and solo travellers
My room was facing Zion square which can be noisy as there was always some party happening right outside my room. This was not a problems as I found the vibe exciting but if this may be a problem ask for a quiet room
Small room but had everything needed. Perfect location, lots of resturants and bars around. Slightly noise if room towards the streets but if you pay more you get a better room. Good but simple breakfast.
The hotel needs refurbishing, old carpets etc
- good location - center of Jerusalem - easy walk (10 min) to the new or Jaffa gate - very nice and hopefull personal
- no Internet connexion in our room - very basic and old washroom - very poor breakfast
this place is great. I stayed in a large room (room 10) that had a balcony overlooking Zion square. Rooms are basic and a bit dated, but that's part of the atmosphere. If you face the street it can be very noisy, but it tended to quiet down at 23:00. Fortunately, all the buskers play good music! Location is stellar. I explored East, west, and old Jerusalem all over and never needed to take any public transport at all, this place is right in the middle of everything. Staff are excellent- friendly, knowledgeable and definitely interested in ensuring you have a pleasant stay in Jerusalem. I would come back here and stay in the same room, and take my wife this time!
Can't think of anything. For the great price and location, I'm happy with my experience.
noisy from outside
Location, internet and wi-fi, cleanliness, proper temperature in the room (heating system working)
Towels very old (torn)
We loved staying at the hostel. Staff is very kind and helpful. We liked our room with a balcony. Beds were comfortable. We could use kitchen and cook our own food and meet many new people over there, which was great.
If you like more quiet place, make sure to ask a receptionist your room to be located not facing the main Jaffa Road as it's very noisy there with a loud music. We didn't have problems, but some people did and couldn't sleep, because of the noise. Wi-Fi - strong connection only near reception area.
staff good，location good。
Location. The flowered balcony overlooking Zion Square & with its political history (1995 Netanyahu's anti Rabin speech)
Not enough room in the self service kitchen.
Great location! Helpful and friendly staff. Really enjoyed meeting many of the other guests; many interesting and outgoing people pass through.
1. No lockers! 2. WiFi extremely slow and unreliable. You get knocked offline every few minutes if too many guests are trying to use the WiFi. 3. Cramped rooms with no room for luggage. 4. Very low water pressure in the shower. 5. No hot water in the shower between the hours of 11:00 and 16:00, or something like that. 6. No large common areas, except on the roof. 7. Dingy, threadbare. I've moved to another hostel down the road that is superior in every way, for the same price.
Maybe, didn't see a recepcionist in the middle of the night if Someone needs something.
