The location is unbeatable, right inside of Jaffa Gate. Also, the rooftop view is great (too bad they don't let you eat your breakfast outside). Everything else. When guidebooks say Jerusalem's oldest hotel is falling apart at the seams, they mean it, but they don't mention that there is no sense of faded grandeur to make up for it. The carpets in our room were stained from the traffic of untold numbers of pilgrims' feet. The towels and sheets looked and felt about as old as Jerusalem itself. Pieces of the toilet and shower broke while we were using them. The tv never worked, and there was not 24-hour hot water. No one emptied the trash or made the bed in the three days we were there. Also, the staff made some disparaging remarks about my wife's nationality. The most appalling thing was the cost ($80/night). I have stayed in several hotels in Europe for the same price without having to deal with filthy rooms, uncomfortable beds and rude staff.

Superb location and excellent view of the old city. The room carpet was not clean and the don't milk for breakfast. The wifi is very weak. You have to go to the reception area to get decent signal.

The value is exceptional and the location is exceptional. The roof top view of Jerusalem is very nice. The staff was helpful and pleasant. Despite the spartan conditions, it was reasonably clean and no bugs or rodents (thanks to the many cats). First its a hostel in an old building in old Jerusalem. What do you expect? The building is a little run down, the furnishings are very simple and the place could use some repairs. Pretty much what I expected.

I knew what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. Great location, very good price, nice staff, genius loci, the view! I will recommend Petra to anyone who seeks adventure and atmosphere over luxury and comfort. PS: night stroll around empty streets of an Old city was priceless thanks Free parking advertised on the website is not true, should be changed. We left the car 100m far from the hostel in an underground parking at Manila payed 10 nis per hour on a weekday

Just the staff and the roof is good. Everything! Super frightening dirty room! The painting of the walls has fallen seriously. Hot water is not provided 24 hours, but even in the so-called provided hours it has no hot water. And we paid 80 dollars per night!

The only thing that I liked about Petra is a perfect and picturesque view from thier roof in the early morning. But I didn't wait too much of facilities and service for that minimum price of the room I paid. Facilities are very poor, it can be acceptable only for young backpackers, I think. Those who like comfort would better stay away from Petra.

Only the staff friendliness and location Room was terrible. Paint was falling apart with a humidity that you could not even breath. Bath was terrible with door black from the moisture and fungus . No one came in to clean the room.

Location 100$ a night for premiumroom, got a ´normal´room. Dirty, wornout, old, no curtains, no hot water, shower itself didn´t work, just the tap so you have to sit on your knees in the tub to clean yourself! Beds dirty, a tigerprint ´thing´should be your blanket..No hangers, no shelves, actually it´s all awful! Breakfast is just some salad, humus, yoghurt and pita.. If it would be the case that the rooms were like 20$ a night it would be ok but still sleazy, but for 100$ this is horrible and way overprized. Most employees are just kids. Try something else I would recommend and you would feel more relaxed!

The central location, the room was clean, and the staff friendly. The room looked more like a monks cell, and the promised "view of the city wall" does not apply to all rooms (ie, not to the one I got).

Very near to all old city tourist places. Join local tour very convinent. 1. Very bad WiFi service. Room can not receive at all times. Only happen at lobby. 2. Painting peel off from the roof and caused my stuff dirty. 3. Water pressure and quantity from the tap is very small. A small improvement after room changed. 3. No room cleaning service. We stayed 6 days without changing a towel from the hostel. 4. Ask for 4 cloth hangers only 1 pc one to us. 5. Blanket has a hole on it.

The owner is friendly and always available for helping. The breakfast is nice (humus, tahina, vegetables, no sweet). It is located in the most comfortable position for visiting both the old city and the centre. The bath is large. There are no curtains at the windows: there is too much light in the morning.
