The American Colony Hotel  

The history. the old en days' elegance, the very nice Presidential room (pricy, but you can haggle the price down to around 50%) The relaxed breakfast in the lovely patio garden.

The old/antique furniture looks very cool, but functions badly. Cupboard doors difficult to open and close, squeaky hinges, hard to move drawers, etc. Many ants on bathroom floor. All three days of our stay. silly flasks for shampoo, shower gel, etc. very hard to get anything out of them. Shouldn't be like that. BUT: having seen the staff's attitude, there is good hope that they will fix most or all these issues now that they know about them.

The architecture and rich history make it a fascinating place to stay, the other guests were classy and pleasant.

The restaurant was great, the lamb chops and kebab were delicious but stay away from the desserts, they were really bad. THe breakfast was fantastic too

Good atmosphere, Excellent and courteous staff, Good choices to eat and good food presentation and taste. Rooms were well and appropriately furnished. A god place to stay

It was strange that such a really good hotel provided such poor deserts.i.e. the Calvados Souffle? The souffle was a of dry sponge with a scoop of ice cream on top. The Creme Brulee was ordinary- pre-prepared and cold. This is meant as a constructive critique and would in no way interfere with a recommendation to a friend Michael Hannan

The Colony has a great history in Jerusalem. It is a beautiful hotel and I like the location, rooms, and amenities. I have been staying at the Colony, off and on, for more than twenty years.

Wait staff service in the main dining room (breakfast) and in Val's Brasserie (casual dining) is absolutely awful. However, having stayed there for many visits, I was aware of this. Service is especially bad if you are, as I am, a female. The hotel has all-male servers who simply ignore a table with women. (It has always been this at the Colony, and I assume will always be so).

This must surely be the place to stay in Jerusalem --- replete with fascinating history, luxurious ambience and wonderful fare.

Most unexpectedly there was no concierge help for our luggage upon arrival.

Poor cleanliness Bathroom was not 3* standard, let alone 5* Bathroom was in desperate need of refurbishment. It was covered in black mould (all around bath, window etc), the bathtub was a filthy ancient jacu55i so we could not take a bath as it was disgusting. Shower head did not work, was clogged so we could only use hand-held attachment. Housekeeping did not removed a dirty glass for 3 days (we had used the minibar on first day) Decor in our room (located in the house opposite the main building) looked cheap and random, more like a b&b than a Leading Hotel of the World. Service was inconsistent. Some staff were lovely others unhelpful and unprofessional

Everything. The American Colony is a superb hotel and lives up to all the accolades it has received and then some. The room, the staff, the pool and everything about this hotel is to be thoroughly recommended. I'll be returning at the first opportunity.

Good environment and atmosphere.

Towels are very coarse.

Such a gorgeous property! You really feel like you are in another era. The photographs of the hotel un the past are beautiful. This was a former palace at one time and has quite a history. Lovely pool to cool off in after a hot day. I booked 2 nights and stayed 4...its a very relaxing place. Beautiful garden courtyard where you can have breakfast and tea. It's just inside the Arabic Palestinian section of Jerusalem, literally one street over, on a quiet historic street, which I found fascinating, and a quick walk to the old city. Staying here makes you really understand the history of Jerusalem, as you are living on the border of both sides. There is a fabulous new tram that runs only a few meters from the hotel. The staff are very helpful and it feels like a private club, plus you run into journalists all the time as they tend to stay here.

The gym is very small and I found the equipment older and put so close together which made it difficult to use, but this is made up for by the gracious staff and fabulous pool.

I liked the breakfast and the swimming pool was delightful

My hotel room was inn the old section...it was charming, but not posh by any means.

The location of the hotel is fantastic.

Our room overlooked someones court yard so we were unable to open our curtains. Not great
