With only one day available on a busy itinerary it had to be the Taj Mahal. Get up early and have a snack, then get to the ticket office for 6.15. (Gates open at 6.30) - at least they did in February.
If we'd had a bit more time, then Agra fort would have been worth a visit.
One place to relax is a small rooftop bar called Treat up the steepest, narrowest staircase ever. Great to watch the world go by with a cold beer and a wide selection of reasonably priced food.

The three classic monuments in and around Agra all lived up to expectations. Despite the fact that Taj Mahal is so well known from pictures, visiting it at sunrise still made an enormous impact. The Red Fort in Agra is also impressive, though it is by no means the only fort from that period in the area. Fatehpur Sikri (about an hour away from Agra) is definitely worth a visit, perhaps because it was conceived as a city and not just as a fort.

Agra is a beautiful city and there are many attractions in addition to the Taj Mahal. Because it is a serene and lovely city with wide roads and footpaths for easy walking, seeing some of the monuments and forts here can be more relaxed than in other busy cities.
Management of entry into the Taj Mahal and the Baby Taj and Agra Fort are easy and well organised.
There are lovely places to eat and unique parks like Selfie Point if you like pretty lights and photos.
A full two day or three day stay is time well spent here.

We arrived in Agra at 11.30pm due to a very long train delay because of smog. So cold,.
Our guest house waited for a our arrival n gave us extra blankets.
Due to weather conditions we couldn't start sight seeing until 11am starting with The Fort n then Taj at 2pm when the sun eventually came . I advise to do your sight seeing n leave as nothing else there to do.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights, and the owner, Larif, was very kind. He helped me with train ticket booking in advance of our trip and also provided us with many suggestions to make our stay more enjoyable.
All the staff at this hotel were polite and hospitable. They will always be like brothers to me, and I feel like a member of their family.
The room was very clean and had a pleasant fragrance.
If you plan to visit Agra, I recommend staying at this hotel in Shaka.
Very nice people run the hotel, very clean, in terms of hospitality you can't compare it with other similar budget places in India. Speaking well English. Very nice guys, friendly, also good second floor cafe where you can order various meals. They care about customers and have every day cleaning personal all day working inside.
It's near Taj Mahal, walking distance to a free shuttle to the temple itself.
I have been with my son in Agra and we stayed at the Gupta Vilas. Very good location, not far from the Taj Mahal. The family, operating the hotel are extremely nice, positive and helpful. The home-made food is excellent as well as the rooms, the view from the roof is very nice. You can see the Taj Mahal.
When going again to Agra I will for sure stay at the Gupta Vilas.
Everything about Double Tree by Hilton Agra was excellent. The staff at the breakfast buffet and dinner were extremely accomodating and helpful especially as we were travelling with my 80 year old Mum. We decided to eat breakfast lunch and dinner in the hotel as food was just perfect for us pure vegetarians.. Our room was kept tidy at all times by the house keeping staff.
The hotel was very nice and lovely. The rooms were really clean and the bathrooms were really clean as well. More importantly the reception and customer service were really helpful. Took really good care of us and checked us in and out and provided us with an early breakfast as we were leaving early. They help you with knowing Agra so you can enjoy the city as well.
That’s fantastic hotel with designed rooms and rest area, beautiful mini garden, a good location near Taj Mahal and friendly staff! They cook delicious Indian food (without any consequences to your stomach!). It’s really clean and I think the best place to stay in Agra!
If you are looking for a true historic hotel in Agra, vs. a faux-historic, this is the hotel for you. It's fairly simple - feel of an Old Word tourist hotel - and could probably use renovation (e.g. a nicer roof deck), but it's certainly solid as is.
This property is located near Taj mahal in 5km range. This is economical hotel to stay with family. Breakfast is nice. I recommend if you are looking economical hotel to stay. The owner is very supportive. Thank you Ali.
Five stars for Goyal Hoteliers! From the friendly staff to the fully AC rooms, every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectations. Plus, the parking facilities made it easy to explore Agra at my own pace.
Big shoutout to Goyal Hoteliers for their outstanding service! The staff was incredibly attentive to my needs, and the parking facilities made exploring Agra a breeze. Would definitely stay here again!
A perfect stay we had while we were in Agra to see Taj Mahal. We enjoyed our stay, The breakfast was also good and the staff was helpful. I would prefer this hotel for tourists.
