The evening shikara ride was great for our group and was at the right price point - 2000 rupees for 2 hours for 2 families. The bird sanctuary was a big disappointment as there is not much to see and the facilities are also very poor - of the two bird watching towers one is damaged and other does not have a great view. Not many species of birds could be seen or heard, its more of a nature walk than a bird sanctuary.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise.
As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise. As the gates shut the noise and hustle bustle of an Indian town were left outside.
The beautiful old buildings in heritage style, lovely garden with trees and the only sound that of birdsong. It didn’t end there. All the staff from Vaisakh the Manager, Amal the Chef, the lady helping in the kitchen and the lady constantly sweeping the floors and working in the garden were helpful, courteous and always had a cheerful smile. The two men were happy to enter into conversations with us when they were not busy. They also responded immediately when asked for anything.
The food was delicious and well cooked but they found it amusing that we couldn’t handle the chillis in some of the dishes.
The pool was clean and cool and very welcoming in the heat.
We spent a very happy and relaxing week at Brookside Heritage Resort and it was the best place to start our Kerala adventure after a long and arduous journey from the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in a property that gave us half-board meals (dinner and breakfast) and had in-house activities such as a sunset boat cruise and an evening cultural show. All this reinforced the kerala theme and made for a wonderful experience.

The backwaters are unique with water lilies and a wide variety of birds that can be viewed in a Shikara at dawn. A houseboat to spend the day and enjoy local cuisine served using fresh fish caught and sold by fisherwomen on the banks is a fabulous experience.

Kumarakom is a lovely back water locality, away from the hustle bustle of the city. Its a relaxing environment where you can disconnect from the busy world outside and yet if you need to get back to it, it's just nearby.
The Breakfast was sumptuous. The staff at the Restaurant was so very helpful and caring. The A La carte menu was extensive with a lot of Kerala cuisine options as well as Chinese. The food was well prepared and tasty.
The Lake view Cottage has a beautiful view of the lake and the garden in front of the patio was well maintained.
The property is very clean and in spite of the tropical climate and evening rains we were not disturbed by any creepy crawlies or mosquitoes
The fish served was fresh and excellent. would strongly recommend this
The hosts, Divya and Dileep, are such gracious generous hospitable relaxed hosts. they are always ready to assist with anything—arranging boat trips, car and tuk-tuk rides, and massages at an Ayurvedic place very close by. They just can’t do enough. They serve great Kerala style breakfasts which you eat communally with the other guests who hail from other parts of India, Europe and US. I didn’t realize till my arrival that they also serve dinner. all the foods are exactly what they prepare for themselves.
Excellent location and super friendly staff. The place has a warmth of its own. If you are looking for luxury and exceptional room service I would suggest Kumarakom Lake Resort BUT if you are looking for a stay closure to nature with original Kerala cuisine then go for Coconut Lagoon. Some staffs like Md Shafi, Lekha, Christopher, Jijo were super helpful. If you are travelling with a toddler - then this is THE place.
The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and the peaceful atmosphere. It was also really well-organised, incl. transport to and from the hotels. I can definitely recommend staying at Grand Villa houseboat to anyone who seeks some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, incl. amazing food and welcoming staff!
First of all we got a free upgrade to a room with private pool. Resort is in a spacious and very scenic place. would definitely stay again. Don’t forget to turn in the mosquito repellent provided in the room :). we also enjoyed the dance that was arranged for the guest. everything has been thought through by the management to provide the best service.
My wife & I visited Little Chembaka from Australia for 3 nights & what a treat that was!
One of the owners, Vimal went absolutely above & beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.
If you're after a genuine, local, proper foodie experience in the stunning Kumarakom backwaters we highly recommend this little gem.
Cheers, Mark & Niv
The location of the homestay & friendliness of the host and the staff was so good and made our stay exceptional. Having breakfast on the balcony with the view of the canal or dinner with the best sunset view was a blast. We saw so many birds, we didn't need to go to the nearby bird sanctuary. Would definitely come back here.
Perfectly situated on the backwaters of Kerala. Beautiful property designed in sync with the environment. Excellent, friendly team of staff. Very comfortable and spacious accommodation.
Nahee and the restaurant team were excellent.
Soby as GM and Manoj as DGM were outstanding.
The staff have a shared tip jar which is good.
What an amazing hotel. It was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 3 children. The staff were exceptional throughout the resort. They were very friendly and flexible with our needs. We loved the pool, food in the restaurant, cooking demonstrations, biking and games room. Do not hesitate to book. It was very hard to leave.
The hotel is absoulutly beautiful. We had a pool villa with a privat pool, outside shower and view direct on the backwaters. The Spa is stunning. All the staff is helpfull and very kin. The restaurant has an amazing chef and a great service team. Every evening there is a cultural program. Highly recommended!
The staff at the hotel were phenomenal and took the meaning of hospitality to another level. They helped us with arranging almost everything in our trip from boat rides to transport. I would definitely come back again and recommend Kumarakom Wood Castle to others.
Great location by the lake, pool is huge and not busy, hotel offers boat trips which is good and a great time to use the pool by yourself with everyone gone. Front desk staff very helpful and good at dealing with queries.
Incredible experience! The staff made our stay memorable. We enjoyed the cooking sessions - a chance to share experiences while talking to interesting people and learning about Kerala cuisine. Highly recommend!
We had the best experience at this resort. very calm and peaceful location , very good service from the friendly staff, and the food were amazing..,excellent place for family vaccation.
