The room was amazing, nice view, balcony, huge bed, cable TV, crazy glass wall to bathroom! Lovely staff who made up interesting animals out of on towels our bed everyday. Watching the sunset in pool and finally - a pool bar! Nice breakfast choice. Keep an eye out for the huge bats which fly across at sunset.
Some areas need a little maintenance; there was black stuff on pool edge which we got on our costumes.
The pool was excellent . The gardens were well kept
The corridors were leaky. No children's channels on tv. All personal care items available only on request. Some bell boys did not know English . Food below expectation
The place is good to relax.
Wi-fi is paid.
Stayed here for a day in a garden room. Gud place to stay away from rush. Hotel was very fine and the room was excellent with a view of the pool and garden. Very warm and hospitable staff. Hope to visit again :)
The food was delicious but slightly overpriced.
We felt like a home away from home. The hotel received us with welcome hands and the food was excellen. The location was very ideal!!!
Housekeeping is poor
1)Staff. This is the only thing to like about the place. If not for the staff the hotel would attract no visitors. They help the management gloss over the umpteen shortcomings. So a score of 10 out of 10 for the staff. 2)Nice and well maintained pool
1)Room 206 had a water swirling noise coming from the ducts. During day and night with imaginable consequences 2)Quality of food was not of a class or quality that you expect from the Taj brand. Again, the chef and his assistants manage to labour hard to please the guests. The management needs to look hard at what is lacking. 3)The restaurant indoors have a horrible stink that hits you as soon as you enter. Outdoors is fantastic but just one vantage table. 4)If the hotel is full then the restaurant is the last place you want to be at. 5)For the variety and quality of food available the price is atrocious. 6)The insides of the building shows visible signs of maintenance issues. all the wood work looks poor and makes you feel as if you are in a low class hotel 7)Overall, we managed to have a good vacation because of the staff and because we put on a positive attitude as we were determined not to feel depressed. 8)I will never go back to this hotel and in future will be very careful when I chose a Taj hotel. Because to me it looks like they are just milking their brand and goodwill. 9)I paid Rs.66,000 for a 4 day x 2 room holiday. I would not pay more than half of this if I had my way for the quality dished out to us
Exterior (flooring and ambience)Doesn't look like 5star
Very friendly, helpful staff and great location with good facilities. Garden room was fine and allows direct access to gardens and pool. This was the cleanest hotel we stayed in during the trip, and the room luxurious. Hired hotel taxi to see/ride on elephants which was fantastic. Travelled mid Aug 2014 which is low season so rates were good, but rainy/cloudy a lot which didn't matter for us.
Bar and food prices expensive for India but to be expected with this standard of hotel
the view good
the beach is far a way and dirty. it is not a privte beach
Excellent service, good location, fair price.
No room service (Food and drinks) after 11:00 PM. Not much to see around but a good place to relax and chill out.
since its not sesson time i like the hotel was not noisy .
the room is not clean .
Everything, staff, location
Warm welcome, friendly staff.
Best part of the hotel was the location, it is at a walkable distance from the beach and also has a private road to the beach...
Food was good but i felt sevice was very slow...everytime we had to wait 25 to 30 mins for our order
Loved the location, recomend an ocean view room top floor, worth the extra, the garden view rooms can be a little dark. Staff fantastic allowed a late check out at no extra cost. Pool bar and restaurant food good. If you didn't want to try the many restaurants around
The hotel is in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious with comfy beds. We preferred the location of this hotel to that of the Vivanta in Kovalam
This hotel was great value for money. I think it has great potential, if the Taj Group invested further in it.
staff at hotel
cost when eating in hotel.no seating by pool
The bathrooms were spacious. The small veranda outside was good.
We were a group of 17 family members .The management response to our queries related to our booking and facilities offered was extremely disappointing. We asked for a package including food for 2 days, the management never responded.!! two of the rooms we were allotted didn't have functioning Air conditioning. We had to put up a big fight to get rooms with functioning Acs. Overall it was a disappointing to know a Taj Group Hotel could behave so indifferently and irresponsibly.
Lovely clean hotel staff brewere very friendly and helpful, we did ask for water at the breakfast but was charged for it although we didn't know this at the time. Tea coffee juice and hot water was included though. The pool was lovely but deffinately not enough sunbeds available or the room to put extra sunbeds out that we had to ask staff to supply. Over all we were very happy with the Gateway hotel.

Staff couldn't do enough for you, lovely people. Superior room over looking gardens and out towards the sea was super, loved glass shower room.
Not enough sun beds for the amount of people staying. Really needs sorting as let's the hotel down.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Very pleasant staff and the standard of catering was excellent Denise from Stafford
A daily battle of obtaining a sun lounger. This was stressful and on more than one occasion caused embarrassing confrontations between hotel guests. This is an expensive hotel and paying guests should not have this added stress of having to partake in this degrading fiasco. Not good enough. My thoughts were shared with the hotel manager
Locks are still the old style with keys. Some wood panels on the bathroom doors were coming out.
Its location near the beach is very nice, especially for a beach facing room, management was also courteous and helpful.
There are few old rooms which we got on the first day (should be avoided), which were later changed to renovated rooms on our request. Rooms are decent but not excellent.
The restaurant staff, especially Lijin, tried very hard and the food was also quite good.
You would have to have a very low comfort threshold if you liked this place. After staying at a couple of other Taj Hotels in our trip through India this was a real let down. It didn't help that the toilet in our bathroom overflowed two days running while we were out of the room. The General Manager agreed to move us the second time it happened but the guy on reception was completely useless and out of his depth. But that wasn't all, the place needs a complete makeover. The rooms are damp and in a poor state, the towels and bedding are in a very poor condition. The furniture isn't comfortable especially on the balcony. The pool area only has about 16 loungers for 30 rooms and they were always taken up by long term residents who set out their towels and books before breakfast and kept them there the whole day. We sat on the grass for at least a couple of hours once while loungers were left empty. When one couple came back and I said I thought it was a bit selfish of them to prevent others from using them, the woman accused me of being arrogant!!! I don't think she was capable of seeing the irony in that comment! The hotel are aware of the problem but all they do is offer you a yoga mat to lie on.
