We had a great stay here. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable. We loved the main lodge, where there's a cafe (with house made ice cream!), and restaurant. The complimentary breakfasts in the morning were fantastic. This is a nice, relaxing spot from which to base a few-days Golden Circle excursion. There's not much going on around the hotel itself, but if you're looking for a low-key, rather secluded spot, you wouldn't be able to find much better.
Breakfast, and the main hall
We had to cancel our reservation at the last minute due to storms and road closures and they were very responsive, gracious and did not charge us despite our late cancellation. We loved the look of this place and hope to stay there on a future visit!
This is such a wonderful place! The rooms are cozy and beautiful and quiet, large and comfortable, with radiant floor heating and beautiful views. Breakfast (included) was a heavenly buffet of milk fresh from their cows and a generous array of breakfast items from waffles to herring to eggs from their chickens. I highly suggest taking dinner there - there are windows looking out over their cows and it is among the loveliest things I've ever seen. Not to mention the food is excellent. The soup was exquisite. The staff were fantastic. They have an array of sweaters hand knitted by ladies in the community for sale that are just beautiful and quite reasonably priced. I could not resist perusing these while enjoying their famous ice cream. I cannot recommend Farmhouse Efsti Dalur highly enough!!!
Great location on the Golden Circle. Food was excellent, made with farm produced ingredients. Room was spacious & clean. Bed was comfortable. Dining room offered view into the dairy barn.
Fresh food--particularly beef and dairy products--was fabulous.
Very friendly and welcoming owners and staff. Very good food in the restaurant at, yes, a surprise, affordable prices. You can eat your delicious meal whilst looking down through windows onto the very well-cared for cows in their own 'dining-room' eating their food. Brilliant! Excellent location, very comfortable log cabin accommodation. All in all, a great place to stay if you like feeling close to the land. If you prefer cityscapes, this is probably not for you.
The fact we had to leave :(
- very good restaurant
- the shower went from hot to cold all the time - water smells like "egg"
This was our favorite of the six places we stayed in Iceland. A very unique experience! Staff was super friendly - made us feel like friends of the family.
The temperature in the shower was difficult to control. Ran from scalding hot to lukewarm in 15-second cycles. Considering all the other things we enjoyed, we would not let this stop us from making a return trip!
the room was clean nice atmosphere, very cosy friendly staff, you have the impression to be at home,
The design. The food. The place.
- Access to see the barn through the cafe - Room was very comfortable and clean
Probably the best accommodation in all of Iceland. Great concept, romantic, cozy and high standards.
Very kind and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast buffet and great food and ice cream sourced from the farm in the on-site restaurant. Room was clean, cozy and quiet with a beautiful view. Happy friendly farm dogs, horses and cows. Very well situated between town of Laugarvatn and sights Gulfoss and Geysir and close to Thingvellir National Park. Best value of all the places we have stayed so far in Iceland. Would absolutely return.
The room in the log cabins was lovely, good size and clean. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent, and the breakfast included homemade bread and skyr. Absolutely lovely.
Can't think of anything I didn't like.
Very nice, spacious and clean cabin. Delicious food in the restaurant.
Compared with other Iceland accommodations, this farm hotel provided good value. Great location! Being able to watch cows in the barn through windows while having dinner, is something unique. Rating 8+ seems too low. Great view from the breakfast room as well.
- very well equipped, nice and warm all-wooden rooms -good breakfast
- The hosts were welcoming and friendly - The cabin is nice, all made of wood - the food in the restaurant was good. The restaurant's back glasswall faces the barn with cow, so you can come up and see cows chewing hay. - there is a warm open-air bath-tube in the yard
- The water supply is very flaky – you literally won’t be able to take a shower. The water contrasted from being either scaldingly hot or very cold - The beds are fairly sleepable yet lack comfortable pillows (there were no extra pillows either) - the restaurant is good but expensive, and the service is slow, because the owner of the restaurant simultaneously is one and the only waiter there
food: cheese, milk yogurt, icecream homemade location: half way between gulfoss and reykavik staff: polite and efficient room: clean and silent environment: animals around the building
We stayed in one of the newly built cabin rooms at Farmhotel Efstidalur. The room was quaint, bed was comfortable and the surroundings were so quiet and peaceful. Recommend trying the homemade ice cream made from the farm's dairy cows ... delicious! The owners were very understanding when we had a mix-up with our reservation and were mistakenly double-charged. They refunded the amount and they made sure to follow up several days later to ensure we received the refund.
A perfect place if you have young children. There are windows between the cafe and restaurant into the barn, so my five year old daugther kept us updated on the latest new about the cows at all times ;-). She was also allowed to come into the barn and watch while ther were milking the cows.. Hot tub with nice view outside the rooms. Close to Geysir/Gullfoss and to Fontana bath in Laugarvatn (definitly recommend that for families and others). Great breakfast and food in the restaurant. Home made ice cream in the cafe!
Nothing negative (- not possible to rent horses during winter season - but possible nearby)
Conveniently situated for visiting local sights of Geysir, Gullfoss and Pingvellir. We had a room in the annexe, on the valley side, which provided wonderful views. Nicely appointed in a rustic theme with tea making facilities as an added bonus, perhaps the only downside of the accommodation is that the soundproofing in wooden buildings is not always great. The fact that it is all part of a working dairy farm certainly adds to the experience. Evening meals are available on site and these are definitely to be recommended. As expected, breakfasts are superb.
Incredible food (especially the burger), friendly and helpful staff, and of course the northern lights didn't hurt.
