The owners are awesome! I was the only one there that night and spent the morning chatting about Iceland with the guy that owns the place over breakfast. The entire facility is extremely clean and the rooms are nice and spacious. Lovely location too; I even saw the northern lights right out my window!
The room was wonderful, very clean and quiet.
nothing to mention here
It is a very cozy guesthouse with kindly staff. A great view!
The room was small, and i suggest to to the hotel to offer some salmon for breakfast
the room, the restaurant, the food. Anna the host/receptionist was very friendly and helpful
Clean Free breakfast
Share bathroom Food is expensive Far away from everything
very friendly and welcoming comfortable homey excellent food
My friend and I stayed here late September. It was a wonderful stay - the staff is so nice and helpful. They had a great breakfast spread. We even opted for a horseback ride, our guide was so nice and friendly. We aren't horseback riders but had a great experience and would totally do it again.
Isolated but easy to find directly off the Ring Road, a good overnight stop if travelling the circuit. We had a small but adequate twin room with a free upgrade to en-suite facilities. Optional grill dinner was delicious if a little expensive but saved driving to Hvammstangi 15 mins away. Breakfast was excellent. Has over 100 horses which visitors are encouraged to go and see and riding is available.
Clean with good facilities. Good breakfast. Interesting to see horses close to you.
Gauksmyri Lodge is located half way between Reykjavik and Akureyri just set back from the ring road. It is a very good overnight stay. At less busy times / out of season the restaurant is a buffet with soup, salad bar, four meats, hot veg, and it was good.
Not really a dislike as I knew the location when I booked, but if you want nearby facilities there simply aren't any for a long way.
We stayed at the family room with the shared bathroom. It was a very big room and very clean. Breakfast was something you see in 5 stars hotel.
The rooms are nice and clean. The relaxing areas outside the restaurant are great. The staff was most of the time helpful and kind. The dinnerbuffe was not so good and there was no other a la cartealternative other than soup.
Beautifull design.Large room. Comfortable bed.Great vew. Very good and taste full breakfast. Low price. Friendly and helpfull staff. Clean.
Nice place and breakfast
a bit expensive
Very nice place and very friendly staff. They helped us to find the best bus connection to Akureri for the couple that had been so far with us and even offered to bring them to the bus stop some 3 km away as we had to go first in another direction. Good food too.
Great staff, the lodge is part of a large and very well managed Icelandic horse training facility, so horseback riding and true country-style atmosphere were real pluses. Great food, good views, nice room, look forward to returning.
Spacious and well maintained common areas including the dining room. Varied breakfast selection.
One additional bathroom would improve the accommodation.
A tiny bathroom, a very small room,no place to put anything
We were there early May and our first impression was how quiet it was. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our room. The room was small but clean and adequet for one night . Like the rest of the hotel it had a strong horse theme. After a very comfortable nights sleep we enjoyed a good selection at breakfast in a very nice light and airy dinning room which also doubles as the restaruant. It was a stay with a difference
We were not comfortable with all the stuffed birds that adorned Gauksmyri Lodge. One of the reason we are frequent visitors to Iceland is for the amazing wild life it supports. But then to be surrounded by lifeless stuffed animals wasn't to our taste.
Very welcoming staff, excellent breakfast.
Smallish room, could use some curtains.
Friendly welcoming staff, peaceful relaxing location
Everything was perfect.
Very nice staff, simple room. Excellent location for an overnight stay.
Quiet, a bit too quiet
Not the friendliest of welcomes, and instantly told to take your shoes off isn't what you expect with baggage in hand. No tv in room, and the place is pretty weird. Not to everyone's liking with the vast array of taxidermed animals, luckily we had a room with collages images of horses, but the barb wire tea lights in the living room and breakfast area are the home comforts we were used to. Had to squeegee the bathroom floor with the one provided as water pissed everywhere! It snowed overnight and we were singing 'Hotel California' as the line "you can check out any time you want, but you just can't ever leave" came to mind! But hay ho, it was a bed for the night, we slept, and they're just trying to run a business, so don't let bad reviews put you off. After all, if you need somewhere to stay in that area of Iceland, hotels are few and far between. Literally.
